3. Workshop Overview
This interactive workshop will present essential principles and include actual practice
for summer camp staff on how to coach students on clear and effective oral
communication.
Goal
To equip summer camp staff with information, strategies and tools for coaching
students to speak clearly, confidently and competently.
Objectives
Each professional development participant will:
1. Identify three(3) of their individual oral communication strengths/skills.
2. Learn three(3) public speaking coaching techniques.
3. Deliver a 2-3 minute impromptu oral presentation.
4. Prepare a draft a preliminary "Action Plan" for coaching students on public
speaking.
11. ALISON VELEZ LANE
Alison Velez Lane grew up in Baltimore City. She graduated from Western High
School, Bryn Mawr College and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
During her childhood, she won public speaking contests sponsored by her recreation
center, the NAACP, the African Methodist Episcopal Church and the Baltimore City
Department of Recreation.
Attorney Alison makes oral arguments in court, leads seminars about leadership and
gives speeches all throughout the United States. She loves helping people to feel
relaxed and good about giving speeches.
