2. Where does Hip Hop come from?
Hip Hop as music and a culture formed during the 1970s in
America, New York City at Block Parties which took place
amongst young people. It is also known as rap music and is
a rhythmic beat with a rhyming speech which is almost
chanted. It has developed sub-genres of MCing, DJing,
rapping, scratching, beatboxing, break dancing and graffiti
writing. Other sub-genres Hip Hop may come under include
Grime, Trap, Drum and Bass, Breakbeat and Electro.
3. Stormzy
Stormzy is a relevant artist to the genre as he is a hugely
growing artist in the UK Hip Hop scene and is well known by
people from other countries as well as the UK. He is
influential over a lot of other artists and people look up to him
due to how he has progressed; he started as nothing and
now is known by millions of people.

4. Yungen
Yungen is another artist who is also associated with Stormzy.
They both come from the same origins and they both rap.
Yungen is younger than Stormzy however with Stormzy’s
experience he has a lot more influence over the generation
we are living in.

9. Hip Hop in the Charts
Hip Hop is clearly a popular genre in the charts as there are
more than 5 Hip Hop songs in the top 50 which suggests it is
a growing genre which people continuously listen to. As well
as being a big genre, other genres are also incorporating
their music into this genre as we can see artists like Justin
Bieber are associated with the pop genre but have featured
artists in their singles who come from the Hip Hop genre.
There are upcoming bands like WSTRN who fit Hip Hop
beats in with singing and rapping in one single which
increases the genres popularity and rating.
