Mexico, Cuba, Chile and Argentina. After the autarky and the stabilization plan after
the second world war Spaniards started emigrating to europe (France, Germany,
Switzerland and UK) also from the fields to the cities this at the beginning of the 50
´s. This massive emigration lasted until the crisis of 1973 when people start to come
back to Spain this migratory status starts to changes in the 80´s when Immigration
starts to gain much more strength.
The last census (1 of January 2010) show that there are 1.574.123 Spaniards living
abroad, distributed in mostly equivalent gender, but very unequally regarding the
places by continent. 60.1% live in America, 26.9% Europe and the rest 3% around
the world.

This table shows the countries and the number of Spanish residents in the different
countries around the world, with out taking in counter wether they were born in
Spain or not, only taking in regard if they have the Spanish nationality. This table
also shows the increase of the birth rate in Latin-American countries, because the
barents give the nationality to their children.

OVERVIEW OF SPAIN 1.2 HISTORY OF IMMIGRANTS
Since 1990 the percentage of immigration in Spain has gone up drastically because
of different factors;
- 1986 Spain joining the European Union.
- Having Spanish as first language.
- Latin America has had may economical problems.
- Spain´s economical growth in since the end of the 90´s
- The value regarding work v.s money is more valued in spain than other countries.
In 2000 and 2005 spain was one of the first countries receiving immigrants the
world now Spain is the tenth country with more immigrants in the planet, this
happened in only 10 years where Spain because of its geographical placement and Source. Wikipedia

7. CHAPTER 1
SPAIN´S IMMIGRATION 1.3 ACTUAL IMMIGRATION
This pyramid shows that the biggest percentage of immigrants coming
to Spain are people between 25 and 40 years old, and there are more
men coming than women this could be because men of cultural factors
of men being the providers for the house hold.
Thanks to the ¨economic crisis¨ Spain´s immigration situation is changing
since August of las year till now, 1% of the immigrant population has
gone bak to its countries, approximately each year Spain receives
200.000 immigrants, this year the number of people empadronado has
decreased by 8.500 (17 %) from last years stats. In spain the 10% of
people living here are immigrants. The most affected provinces are
Castilian that lost 38% of work permits, Alienate lost 8.1% and Valencia
with a 6,9%, in total in Spain a 29% of the Immigrants have lost their
work permits.

IMMIGRANTS IN BARCELONA 2.1 OVERVIEW
Barcelona is the second biggest city in spain it has 1.578.546 habitants
and a 16% of immigrants, they are spread out throw all its
neighborhoods, for example in the Raval there are 47.7% of its habitants
are immigrants in el Gothic (36.4%) the percentage goes a little beat
down but it is also very high. Barcelona has the highest Ecuadorian
community in all spain represented in 22.210 habitants, then Pakistanis
with 17.735 habitants.
Immigrants group together, this could be a way of defense or just a way
to feel like at home again. You can say by looking at the map in the left
that Ecuadorians have been or have decided to stay in the periphery of
the city having 5 different colonies, the italians feel free to merge in the Source. El periodico.com
city and the Pakistanis all colter in the same sector of barcelona.
Since some time back there are starting to be problems of xenophobia
acts, within the community this is why La Generalitat de Barcelona has
spent in the las year 395.000€ in advertisement for immigrant PACT. El
catalán, dijo, debe convertirse "en lengua común y vehículo de
comunicación de todos los hombres y mujeres que viven en Cataluña" this
are the words of José Montilla president of the Generalitat de Barcelona,

10. CHAPTER 2
IMMIGRANTS IN BARCELONA 2.2 PRINCIPAL NATIONALITIES
Italians are the predominate immigration population in Barcelona one of
the reasons is language, for italians catalan is a very easy language to
understand a to talk, so they can get jobs easier and integrate in the
communities much easier also they are from the EU so their residential,
work, health and permit situation is not a problem. Then come the
Ecuadorians not so back behind, with only 2 thousand less, they
probably have a very big network established in barcelona helping
themselves to get jobs and to establish fast and easy. This situation is
the same as the Pakistanis even though they execute very different roles
in the barcelona society.

IMMIGRANTS IN BARCELONA 2.3 IMMIGRATION EMIGRATION
It is very interesting and stunting to se how the crisis has affected so
drastically the immigration coming into Barcelona and even more
incredible people leaving probably to their own countries or to other
countries with higher or stronger work opportunities, We can se that the
most affected immigrants are the Latin-Americans, this could be a very
interesting insight to look at, because they list the first 8 first countries
with more emigration in the las year and so.
According to the department of statistics of barcelona after a 10 year
constant growth in 2001 of 74.019 immigrants to 294.908 in the year
2009. The immigrant population in barcelona in the las year has Source. Departament d’Estadística. Ajuntament de Barcelona.
decreased 10.286 that is a 17.6% of the total residents in barcelona.
Possible reasons why Latino Americans emigrate before the Middle East
population:
-Less tide up in Barcelona?
-Very family focused society?
-Can get jobs in their natal Countries, because they are not in such a big
crisis?
-The job activities they worked on in Barcelona where the most
affected?
-Less tolerant to live in bad conditions?
