Techniques
In the opening title sequence of the film Pulp Fiction there is a
variety of camera angles throughout. An example of a technique
used is a close up shot, which is used to show the expression on
the characters faces, showing how the character is feeling.
Another example of a cinematography technique which was used
is an establishing shot which shows the audience the setting
where the characters are. By using establishing shots this can give
the audience an idea of where the whole film is based; such as
what country it’s set in, what era it’s set in and what the
characters image is like. The opening scene shows two characters
in an American diner, sat at the stereotypical type of diner
seating and tables and being served by the waitress in the
uniform of an American diner worker. Also some of the
characters appear to have an American accent; this shows that
the film is based in America.
A point-of-view shot is also used which shows what a character is
looking at. It gives the audience a chance to look at a certain
scene through a character’s eyes. As well as this, a type camera
shot which is used the most throughout is the two shot; as the
opening scene is based on two characters and this shows the
audience who the attention is on.

Visual Effects &
Colour Scheme
In this opening title sequence of this film the colour scheme
appears to be light, neutral and basic. As this scene is based in
the day the lighting is bright and sharp. The two characters are
sat beside a window with the blinds closed, which creates a
shadowing effect. The other windows shown in the diner appear
to not have the blinds closed; this could be indicating that the
two characters may be a sign of darkness and danger.
Genre Conventions
The genre of this film appears to be an action/gangster film with
a twist, as the opening scene begins with a couple who appear to
be in love and share the same hobbies (robbing certain
businesses together). Both characters appear to over exaggerate
their feelings for one another with the use of pet names. This
scene appears to show a sign of violence as the male slams a gun
down on the table aggressively, showing that he has an angry and
bold character.
Narrative
Within this opening scene it shows the audience that the film is
based in America as it is shot in a typical American diner and two
of the characters appear to have an American accent (one of the
characters is English). Throughout the scene there is a variety of
diegetic and non-diegetic sound such as the sound of the
characters speaking and background music.
Editing Techniques
Examples of editing techniques used are cutaways and eye-line
match. The cutaway techniques are used on the characters,
making the camera go from the man, to the woman, then back to
