Invited to the World Forum for a Responsible Economy (Lille - 2015), Damien Declercq presented how Local Motors is fostering a revolution in collaborative mobility, based on an Open-Source and crowd-sourced codesigning process, Direct Digital Manufacturing, 3D printing, local micro factories and a participative platform.

24. Purpose
Urbanization pressurizing our transport systems
As the share of the world’s population living in cities grows to nearly 70
percent by 2050 and energy consumption for transport in cities is
expected to double, the need for efficient, affordable, safe and high-
capacity transport solutions will become more acute.

25. Problem
Congestion has a high cost
The combined annual cost of gridlock in the U.S., U.K., France and
Germany is expected to soar to $293.1 billion by 2030, almost a 50%
increase from 2013.

Human operated vehicles are killing machines
Unsafe road traffic systems are seriously harming global public health
and development. Worldwide, an estimated 1.2 million people are killed
in road crashes each year and as many as 50 million are injured.
Projections indicate that these figures will increase by about 65% over
the next 20 years unless there is new commitment to prevention.
Nevertheless, the tragedy behind these figures attracts less mass media
attention than other, less frequent types of tragedy.

27. Problem
Emissions, noise
95% of all kilometers travelled (both passenger and freight) in the EU
are powered by oil derived fuels. The combustion of this oil releases
pollution in the form of emissions, which place significant burdens on
human health and the environment. Around 90% of city dwellers in the
European Union (EU) are still exposed to air pollutants at levels deemed
harmful to health by the World Health Organization (WHO), and
transport is a large contributor to this. Transport also causes noise
impacts. Road traffic exposes more people to harmful levels of noise
than any other source. EEA
