2. Colour Of The MastHead
How I distinguished a bold colour
scheme.
The dark outline makes the text stand
out against almost any background, and
the red fill is bright and eye catching.
Unlike the blue text which has a very thin
stroke (outlining of the text) which is a
very pale and light colour which wouldn’t
be very noticeable against the busy front
page of a magazine.
Also it has no fill and therefore it doesn't
stand out against the page.
3. Splash Image
I chose a female teen for the splash image of my front cover,
as that’s the target audience for my magazine, therefore the
style could be aspired to.
I chose to have a long shot for my main image as I wanted
the whole of the body in the shot, so her appearance can be
properly seen, and you can tell she is off the ground.
Because my magazine if about individuality, I chose to
purposely go against Laura Mulveys “Male Gaze” – which is
the sexualisation of women to attract and appeal to men.
I chose to convey the laid back and proportion of women
who don’t aim to impress.

4. Writing Style/Formality
Because my magazine is aimed at teens/young adults, I wanted my writing
style to be informal and fun.
This way it makes the articles seem more personal and easy to connect with.
I chose for my double page spread to be written in the “question and answer”
format because that way it shows that what is written on that page is exactly
what came out of the interviewees mouth, rather than the answers being
collected and then changed and edited into the writers own words.
Also the questions I asked were carefully chosen to get answers that would
reveal things about the band mates that we don’t already know.
Therefore readers will be encouraged to read the article as there may been
questions asked that they’ve always wanted to ask the band.
I also used a lot of punctuation (!!) in my magazine as it created a younger
and cooler vibe.
5. Style Of Photography
I chose to have the best quality photography possible to
contrast with the informal writing style, hence why I had a
set up in a studio with a white backdrop.
I wanted my photographs to be well thought through and
set up so that I can try convey what I wanted.
This image is from an interesting low angle, which
is an unusual perspective. The fashionable shoes
and electric guitar create the “rock chick”
stereotype I was aiming for.
I chose for my models to not make eye
contact with the camera as I wanted the
image to be a representation of friendship
and happiness that wasn’t posed and set up.
6. Tag Line
My chosen tag line was “its gonna get messy” and it was placed along side my magazines
logo.
The tag line relates both to the name of my magazine (The Jam) and the contents of my
magazine (The music related interests of teens).
It appeals to teens as they often participating in things that get “messy” such as festivals,
gigs, drinking, nights out ect.
Its also a play on words due to the magazine name “ The Jam” as jam is sticky and messy,
hence why the chosen font of the logo and tag line is dripping liquid.
