Library and I.T.
The library is open for student use during normal college operating hours. Students shall adhere to the
regulations for library use and policies for copyright and appropriate materials as well as personal
decorum when in the library facility.
The library staff will provide orientation every semester to students concerning the use of reference
materials and online journals for which the college has a subscription.
The library provides a variety of resources and services in an advanced electronic environment. The
services offered include reference and research assistance, bibliographic instruction on specific class
subjects, and reserve materials. The library collection includes circulating and reference books, printed
and online periodicals, eBooks, online databases and audio-visual media. Databases, full-text periodicals,
and the library catalog are accessible online 24/7. The library has computers for research and Internet
access. In addition, the Google Apps for Education Suite and the Blackboard Learning Management
System can be accessed from library computers.
Online Databases
The library subscribes to a variety of electronic databases for access to full text journals, magazines,
newspapers, encyclopedias, streaming audio, streaming video and other reference material. All
databases are available via the Internet, and may be accessed from campus computers, and remotely.

addition to the online database access afforded through our California Community College Partnership,
we will also consider other premium database access to include Reuters, Lexis-Nexus, Factiva,
Bloomberg, OneSource, CapitalIQ, Gartner and Forrester Research.

students for course work that require the use of paper. However, IHC expects that faculty and students
will use the digital environment Blackboard for all course work, thus eliminating or at least reducing the
need for paper.

Reference, Reserves, and Inter-library Loans
The Librarian will assist students, faculty and staff with their research needs. The library will provide
instructions in database searching, formulating search strategies, and in selecting appropriate resources.
Physical Media
In the event that video required for instructional purposes is not available online, physical media such as
DVD’s a d Blu-ray Discs (if available) can be check out for one week, and may be reserved in advance to
insure availability.
Reserved Materials
When not available electronically, faculty may place their ancillary class materials (to include hard copy
textbooks) on reserve by filling out a registration form at the library circulation desk, or may print the
Reserved Registration Form, from the website, fill it out, and bring it to the library with the reserved
item.
Inter-library Loans
Faculty and students may request books from other libraries with an online form. The books are
acquired from fee-free libraries only. Please allow two or more weeks for delivery.
