- As we enter a new decade, U.S. manufacturing is strong: if it were a country by itself, it would be the eighth largest economy in the world. At over $1.6 trillion, it is nearly 12% of the total U.S. GDP. However, in light of the many challenges facing manufacturers in the 21 st century economy, we must keep our eyes on two key drivers of their success: innovation and a highly educated and skilled workforce.
