The pupils at Camborne School get ‘hands on’ at a range of skills, including
wiring with building services contractors TClarke, clay plastering with Cornwall
Sustainable Buildings Trust and the Low Impact Building with Natural Materials
(LIBNAM) Project, maintenance tasks like roofing and carpentry with Coastline
Services and spotting hazards with JNC Safety Services Ltd.
“We really enjoyed working with the students who were all very keen to get their
hands dirty and have a go at clay plastering” said Paul Bright from Cornwall
Sustainable Buildings Trust. “In less than five minutes each they got some
excellent results”.

CSBT Chief Executive, Paul Bright, delivered a clay plastering workshop to over
70 students, as part of the Low Impact Building with Natural Materials Project.
“It is nice to see so many young people happy to have a go and try their hands
at sustainable building techniques. I was impressed by their levels of
understanding of natural materials and their keenness to pick up the tools.” Said
Paul Bright.
Have a Go activities are the perfect way for young people and adults to try new
skills and to find out what they are good at, and provide a means to inspire them
to think differently about vocational education while gaining from the local
knowledge and expertise of employers in their local area.

public trying their hand at clay plastering as part of the LIBNAM project.
The Royal Cornwall Show is a huge 3 day event in Cornwall which attracts
thousands of visitors. The Royal Cornwall Agricultural Association are the
organisers of the Royal Cornwall Show, which has been running for over 200
years. Cornwall Sustainable Building Trust and the Cornish Lime Company have
stands in the Traditional Crafts and Skills area of the Show.
Cornish Lime Company had taken part in a Study and Demonstration Visit to
France earlier in the year with the LIBNAM Project to see how their French
counterparts worked and mixed their clay, with particular use of hemp with clay.
Over the 3 days of the Royal Cornwall Show hundreds of members of the public
came and saw the demonstrations and talked with us about the use of clay in
modern and traditional buildings in Cornwall.
