2. GENRE CONVENTIONS
Thriller movies use suspense, tension, and excitement as their main elements.
Thrillers heavily stimulate the viewer’s moods such as; a high level of anticipation,
ultra-heightened expectation, uncertainty, anxiety, suspense, excitement, tension, terror.
Literary devices such as red herrings and cliffhangers are used extensively. The cover-
up of important information from the viewer and fight/chase scenes are common
methods in all of the thriller subgenres, although each subgenre has its own
characteristics and methods.
Below are some examples of thriller films from the mysteries of Taken and Inception to the horror of Orphan.
3. AUDIENCE
The target audience for our media production will be the 15
cert region, for people the age of 15 and above, this was the
majority age range that answered our questionnaire.
This will allow us to incorporate a much darker or even more
violent storyline to our production.
The audience we are targeting will expect their to be a little
more depth and adultness to it, than what they would expect
from say a PG or 12a film.
The audience will expect our production to have a solid, clear
storyline and a very professional way of incorporating titles.
Todays audience expect a very high standard of both video
quality and editing.

the target but is nowhere to be seen. Assassin informs his
contractor that the infiltrator is sill operational and hunting the
assassin down.
6. LOCATIONS
We will be using quiet areas around town for each of our
kills, we’ll use an alley, a dark wooded area and an inside
chase in either the school or a suitable building.
The production will the in a dark room, the main character
wakes up from a nightmare. The room will be very dark, lit by
electronics, blue tint to the room.
7. ACTORS
We will use ourselves and we will either draft in actors from
another media group or class, or we’ll use drama students.
We will ensure the actors we use are up to a high standard,
as we want our production to be as best quality as we can
get it, bad acting will ruin both the storyline and tension built
up in our production.
We will also create a script for our production, so to ensure
each scene flows well and keeps with the storyline.
Main character: Harley Todd
Target 1: Ed Dolling
Target 2: Matt Winfeild
Target 3: Becca Moral
8. PROPS, CLOTHING &
MUSIC
We will be using phones, laptops and other high tech
gadgets to really give of the idea of a ‘modern day’ assassin.
He will wake up in quite casual clothing and will change into
a black suit and white shirt, no tie. He will look quite rough
and tired.
We will try use a lot of music in our production, this will help
keep the pace of the film and will generate audience
reactions and change how they’re feeling.
We will use quite fast paced music, around the punk rock
sort of genres, these will help show what the movie is going
to be like from the very start.
9. TITLES
We will be finding new ingenious ways of incorporating our
titles into our film, we will not use the much over rated white
text on black background, we want to go for a more
professional, modern approach.
We’ll seek inspiration from modern films such as;
Delicatessen, The Shining, Se7en and Panic room. They
have great methods of either doing title sequences or
incorporating them into their opening scenes.
