2. What is…. Greenhouse Effect Process that keeps earth’s climate warm and habitable. 80-90% is made of water vapor. Made of carbon dioxide, methane, and a few other gases. Climate Changes Change in seasons and weather for a long period of time. Can play a role in shaping natural ecosystems. Global Warming The human part of greenhouse gases. This is what humans are putting into the atmosphere that’s bad for the earth.
3. How are They Related? Increases temperature and climate. They are all effecting our earth. All increasing at alarming rates.
4. Primary Causes… Accelerates natural climate cycles with human created emissions. Humans burn too many fossil fuels. Use of methane, nitrogen oxide from farming, and other harmful gases. Buildup of CO2 in our atmosphere.
5. Possible Consequences… Greenhouse gases can stay in the atmosphere for hundred of years. Spread of diseases – as northern get warmer, disease carrying insects migrate north. Bring disease with them. Temperature of oceans rises; increases chance of more frequent and stronger hurricanes.
6. Impacting Economy… Good: Longer growing season Polar icecaps melting- opening N.W. passage; cheaper shipping costs. Bad: Killing trees; no timber. More allergy and more health care costs. Shorter winters.
7. Several ways to Fight Global Warming…. Help reduce demand for fossil fuels. Reduce, reuse, and recycle. Use less heat and air conditioning. Drive Less. Use less hot water. Buy energy efficient products.
8. Basic Arguments…. Most scientists don’t believe human activities are a part of disrupting earth’s climate. The IPCC do not prove human activities cause global warming. Efforts to quickly reduce human greenhouse gas emissions would be too costly and would not stop the earth’s climate from changing.
9. Our Personal Opinions…. From everything we have learned; we believe global warming in a serious issue on earth. We believe humans affect global warming. Everyone should do things to stop global warming.
