2. Now, phone calls via Google mail Google started a new service of phone calls to phones and Landlines using its Gmail service. Earlier users were able to make PC to PC calls using Gmail but now Google has enabled it to make calls to phones as well. Google has now stood in competition with Skype who had started the Phone calls over Internet in the year 2003. To make Phone calls from Gmail, user has to install the Plugging provided by Google. Then by connecting headphones and microphones to the computer, user can easily make the call over the internet.
3. Sify Technologies to raise $86 million Nasdaq-listed internet company Sify Technologies Ltd Saturday announced it would be raising $86 million (around Rs.400 crore) through preferential shares to a group of investors affiliated to its promoter group. The proceeds are to be used for expansion and working capital needs. The company will be making a preferential issue of shares to a group of investors affiliated to CEO and managing director RajuVegesna and his brother and executive director AnandaRajuVegesna. The company will raise the amount issuing 125 million equity shares of Rs.10 each at a premium of Rs.22 per share. According to Sify Technologies, the proposed shares will not be listed on Nasdaq as American Depository Shares. The company board approved the preferential allotment Aug 4 and it has to be ratified by the shareholders at the company general body meeting Sep 27.
4. Tech Mahindra CEO Sanjay Kalra quits firm after six years In an unexpected development, Tech Mahindra CEO Sanjay Kalra has resigned from the firm after spending around six years in its management. VineetNayyar, who is the vice-chairman, will take over the operational responsibilities of CEO, the company said in a late announcement on Friday. Mr Nayyar himself was set to retire last year but was prevailed on to stay and given an extension of his term. Mr Kalra is quitting at a critical time when Tech Mahindra, which took over scam-hit Satyam Computer Services and the two are set to be merged after Satyam’s accounts are re-stated. Tech Mahindra’s revenues are also under pressure with its largest client, British Telecom (BT), ramping down business and contracts from other telecom clients, also under pressure.
5. In the quarter ended June 2010, the company saw revenues grow only marginally and profits at the operating level fall 24% over the year ago quarter. Mr Karla and CP Gurnani, who is now heading Satyam Computer Services, were the two key people that helped Tech Mahindra win business to become the country’s sixth-largest software exporter. Mr Karla headed the BT business while Mr Gurnani had the responsibility for growing non-BT revenues. Mr Kalra, Mr Nayyar and Mr Gurnani — all former HCL employees — were the trio that formed the key part of the executive management team at Tech Mahindra.

Microsoft co-founder sues Google, Apple among others Microsoft Corp co-founder Paul Allen's Interval Licensing filed a lawsuit accusing 11 major corporations, including Apple, Google and Facebook of infringing on its Internet search patents. The company is asserting four patents against a cluster of defendants, including also AOL, eBay, Facebook, Netflix, Office Depot, OfficeMax, Staples, Yahoo and Google's YouTube, according to the suit. Allen co-founded Interval, which said in a press release that its patents were fundamental to e-commerce and search. "This lawsuit is necessary to protect our investment in innovation," spokesman David Postman said. "We are not asserting patents that other companies have filed, nor are we buying patents originally assigned to someone else. These are patents developed by and for Interval." Facebook said it will fight the accusations. AOL, Office Depot, Netflix and OfficeMax declined to comment. The other companies were not immediately available for comment.
7. Small IT cos losing steam Since after the Recession is Ever, the small and mid sixed companies have failed to make much profits during the first quarter. During the Recession period, the small and mid sized companies had made larger profits as compared to big companies. But after the recession is over the market has reversed and Large companied are making huge profits but small and mid sized companies failed to maintain their performance. Mid sized companies like Tech Mahindra, Persistent Systems stood on the same level of profits as it was last year, but companies like Mastek ,Hexaware etc saw a double drop in the revenue. The small and mid sized companies need to focus on offering specialised services rather then trying to mirror the multi-service offerings of large companies.
8. Intel takes a safe bet, locks $7.68-billion deal to buy McAfee Intel Corp on Saturday said to have buying computer security software McAfee Inc for $7.68 billions. The company thinks to adapt a new approach of providing the security that combines software, hardware and services to meet tomorrow’s needs. With the rapid expansion of technology more and more devices are moving online every day, which urges the need of enhanced security in the system. Intel is a market leader of developing microprocessors, Smartphone and Internet connected Wireless devices. Purchase of McAfee would help to behave the security of those devices. Intel thinks that the deal will reduce the earnings slightly for the first year but it will boost up second year onwards. The board of directors of two companies have approved the deal but still it needs the approval of shareholders and regulatory authorities.
9. Endgames for RIM's BlackBerry-India standoff Research in Motion faces an August 31 deadline to give India access to its secure email and instant messaging services or the Indian government has said it will ban those services, hurting much of corporate India. . The government says it is concerned that militants could misuse the services to create instability. If India does ban BlackBerry services, it would be the first country to do so, even though several governments have raised security concerns about the popular device.
