THE CHRISTMAS SEASON INCLUDES THE
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS ON CHRISTMAS
DAY, BOXING DAY, NEW YEAR'S DAY AND
JANUARY 2

I/ CHRISTMAS DAY:
-celebrated in the UK on
December 25
-the celebration of the birth of
Jesus Christ over 2 thousand
years ago
1.1 ORIGIN
in England began in AD 596, when St Augustine
landed with monks.
 He wanted to bring Christianity to the Anglo
Saxons.
 Today, Christmas is a time for people to give
and receive gifts, prepare special meals.

 Christmas

decorations include:
- turning on the beautiful Christmas
music
-decorating Christmas trees
-hanging up evergreen branches.
1.2 ACTIVITIES
1.2.1 in Home
 Christmas celebrations include:
- spending time with the family
-decorating the entire house
-and shopping, for friends and relatives especially
children.
=> General feeling at Christmas is a time for
families. It is only time that they are all together.
 Later in the day, people attend special church
services.
 Everyone eats a special meal => Christmas
dinner


The Christmas Feast (bữa tiệc) :
Drinks, food, music and dance.




THE QUEEN’S SPEECH
The tradition began in 1932, It began, “I speak
now from my home and from my heart, to you all…”
 At 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the Queen gives
her ten-minute Christmas Message to the nation
on television broadcast.


France, spreading from there through Germany

SANTA CLAUS (FATHER CHRISTMAS )

He comes down the chimney on the night of
Christmas Eve and leaves presents in
stockings.

CHARACTERS FROM THE NATIVITY STORY
PRESENTS, CHRISTMAS FOOD ALSO
SYMBOLIZE CHRISTMAS.
CHRISTMAS CARDS

concerts
 by a group of people who go from house to
house collecting money for charitable causes.


and hearts to the mystery of God incarnate.

CHRISTMAS EVE
the Day before Christmas Day, on December 24
 a day of preparations for the Christmas season.

There are 12 days of Christmas.
 In fact, most people go back to work and
school soon after New Year.

II/ BOXING DAY (ST. STEPHEN’S DAY)


on 26th December after Christmas Day

2.1 History

Traditionally, Boxing Day was the day:
-servants would receive gifts in boxes from their
landownwers or employers.
-the collecting boxes in churches were opened &
the contents distributed to the poor.
-boys used to go round collecting money in clay
boxes. When the boxes were full, they broke
them open.
Today, Boxing Day is better known as a bank or
public holiday. , Boxing Day in many places is
moved to 27 December.
 some shops and supermarkets open
nowadays, but banks and most offices remain
closed.

2.2ACTIVITIES
2.2.1 shopping
- known as a shopping holiday, a time where
shops have sales
=> the day of the year with the greatest revenue
- Many retailers (người bán) open very early (5
a.m or earlier)
Many stores want to avoid the hectic (cuồng)
shopping experience.
=> have a limited quantity of big draw or deeply
discounted items

2.2.2 SPORT
an important one in the sporting calendar
a/ Hunting
b/ horse racing

2.2.3 Time family
family get together, watch sports and play board
games, go on walk in the countryside together


2.3 FOOD AND DRINK ON BOXING DAY:
more relaxed than Christmas Day
 Lunch: a buffet or leftovers from Christmas
lunch
 Baked ham


OR A SLICE OF CHRISTMAS CAKE.

  • 3. THE CHRISTMAS SEASON INCLUDES THE PUBLIC HOLIDAYS ON CHRISTMAS DAY, BOXING DAY, NEW YEAR'S DAY AND JANUARY 2 I/ CHRISTMAS DAY: -celebrated in the UK on December 25 -the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ over 2 thousand years ago
  • 4. 1.1 ORIGIN in England began in AD 596, when St Augustine landed with monks.  He wanted to bring Christianity to the Anglo Saxons.  Today, Christmas is a time for people to give and receive gifts, prepare special meals. 
  • 5.  Christmas decorations include: - turning on the beautiful Christmas music -decorating Christmas trees -hanging up evergreen branches.

  • 7. 1.2 ACTIVITIES 1.2.1 in Home  Christmas celebrations include: - spending time with the family -decorating the entire house -and shopping, for friends and relatives especially children.

  • 9. => General feeling at Christmas is a time for families. It is only time that they are all together.  Later in the day, people attend special church services.  Everyone eats a special meal => Christmas dinner

  • 29.  on 26th December after Christmas Day 2.1 History Traditionally, Boxing Day was the day: -servants would receive gifts in boxes from their landownwers or employers. -the collecting boxes in churches were opened & the contents distributed to the poor. -boys used to go round collecting money in clay boxes. When the boxes were full, they broke them open.
  • 30. Today, Boxing Day is better known as a bank or public holiday. , Boxing Day in many places is moved to 27 December.  some shops and supermarkets open nowadays, but banks and most offices remain closed. 
  • 31. 2.2ACTIVITIES 2.2.1 shopping - known as a shopping holiday, a time where shops have sales => the day of the year with the greatest revenue - Many retailers (người bán) open very early (5 a.m or earlier)
