HISTORY OF METAL INERT-GAS WELDING
MACHINE
 It also known as Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), sometimes
referred to by its subtypes metal inert gas (MIG) welding or metal
active gas (MAG) welding.
 It is a process developed in the 1940’s. The concept was further
refined in the late 1920s by H.M.Hobart, who used helium for
shielding, and P.K. Devers, who used argon. This process was
ideal for welding magnesium and also for welding stainless and
aluminum.
 It was perfected in 1941, patented by Meredith, and named Heliarc
welding. It was later licensed to Linde Air Products, where the
water-cooled torch was developed.
The metal inert-gas welding machine has become one of the most
important thing in the manufacturing industry. And this machine is
considered semi-automated. This means that the welder still

FUNCTION
Metal inert-gas welding machine is a machine that
helps welding process in which an electric arc
forms between a consumable wire electrode and
the workpiece metal, which heats the workpiece
metal, causing them to melt, and join.
FEATURES
• Deep penetration, less spatter
• Stable welding process
• Easy to change the polarity for welding self
shielded flux-cored wires
• Select the spool torch to weld aluminum
easily and economically
CHARACTERISTIC
• can be automatically or semi-automatic
• does not require an additive to the process
of connecting rod plate.
• It can be used with a wide variety of metals
and alloys.
• It produces long, continuous welds much
faster than traditional welding methods.
COMPARE AND CONTRAST WITH TUNGSTEN INERT-
GAS WELDING.

 The MIG welding machine welds are cleaner with very
little smoke compare to the TIG welding machine welds.
 The production of MIG welding machine is faster
compare to TIG welding machine.
 To setup the MIG welding machine takes less time and
is easy to automate.
 The MIG welding machine also is cheaper and more
accessible than the TIG Welding Machine.
 TIG welding is more complex to use and requires more
skill than the MIG welding machine that easier to use.

HISTORY OF METAL INERT-GAS WELDING MACHINE  It also known as Gas metal arc welding (GMAW), sometimes referred to by its subtypes metal inert gas (MIG) welding or metal active gas (MAG) welding.  It is a process developed in the 1940’s. The concept was further refined in the late 1920s by H.M.Hobart, who used helium for shielding, and P.K. Devers, who used argon. This process was ideal for welding magnesium and also for welding stainless and aluminum.  It was perfected in 1941, patented by Meredith, and named Heliarc welding. It was later licensed to Linde Air Products, where the water-cooled torch was developed. The metal inert-gas welding machine has become one of the most important thing in the manufacturing industry.   • 7. MANUFACTURING / MACHINERY PRODUCT FUNCTION Metal inert-gas welding machine is a machine that helps welding process in which an electric arc forms between a consumable wire electrode and the workpiece metal, which heats the workpiece metal, causing them to melt, and join.

  • 9. CHARACTERISTIC • can be automatically or semi-automatic • does not require an additive to the process of connecting rod plate. • It can be used with a wide variety of metals and alloys. • It produces long, continuous welds much faster than traditional welding methods.

  • 11.  The MIG welding machine welds are cleaner with very little smoke compare to the TIG welding machine welds.  The production of MIG welding machine is faster compare to TIG welding machine.  To setup the MIG welding machine takes less time and is easy to automate.  The MIG welding machine also is cheaper and more accessible than the TIG Welding Machine.  TIG welding is more complex to use and requires more skill than the MIG welding machine that easier to use.
