CULTURES OF INDONESIA
CULTURAL FACTORS

FOREWORD:

Indonesia's national motto espouses "unity
in diversity" with good reason. Indonesia
has hundreds of ethnic groups. Each group
has its own customs, traditional dress, and
usually distinctive names. Indonesians hold
stereotypes of the behaviors of most
groups, and know the business practices of
the major ethnic groups. These stereotypes
affect business expectations among
Indonesians, and merit the attention of
foreign business executives as an insight
into Indonesian business culture as a whole.
Hall Devided the cultural factors into
3, They are :

1. Context :
Typical of Indonesian people is high
context, which is people like to talk
in many meaning, because they expect
the listener to understand what their
message, through what they are saying,
and what they say is not the straight
to the point, and the way they explain
is not simple as they can, because
actually Indonesian people is living in
east, mostly the character of the
people is shy, that’s way the way they
are talking is little bit complicated,
it looks like the article, we have to
read introduction, content, and
conclusion.

But in fact the typical of people high
context is more tolerant, they always
respect where the place that they are
grow up, that’s mean the relationship
between these person is un -fragile -
able. Because since they are child,
they often use their sense of their
2. Monochronic / Polychronic

Indonesian typical is
Polycronic, which is it can do
everything in the same time, even
while eating they can receive the
phone call from their college, and for
example again if they are having their
lunch we can talk about business,
This type of person is like they are
mastering all the things entirely.

one case for example:
if we go to see the doctor, He would
say the gossip of actress, and if He
is on his speech, he will talk shortly
and believe the audience knew already
what he is saying, and it is not
necessary to talk more detail.
3. Space

                    The social interaction can be
create the relation between two or
more people and itcan be influence
to other people or being influenced
by other people, but the ideal
distance for the people who make
the interaction is 1 meter, not
                    more closer than that, especially
the person that we know new. For
example : our partner of business.

How Do You Do?,
