8. This School is named after the Timucuan Indian Town of Alimacani. Alimacani, meaning “Sweet Land By The Sea”, was located on nearby Ft. George Island. Its chieftain bore the same name as his town, which appeared on the first French map of the area in 1564. The Timucuans were a strong and noble race of people whose ancestors had lived here for hundreds of years. Their beautiful land is our inheritance. It is our responsibility to safeguard it for generations yet to come.
