Surfing is a water sport where riders stand on a surfboard to ride waves towards the shore. There are two basic types of surfboards - shortboards less than 2.1 meters and longboards greater than 2.75 meters. The basic surfing maneuvers include taking off on the wave, bottom turning to escape the breaking wave, cutting back with a 180 degree turn to reapproach the wave, reentry by turning 180 degrees back into the wave, and tubing by sliding within the barrel of the breaking wave. More advanced maneuvers include floats, airs by launching into the air, 360 degree rotations, and snaps which are abrupt cutbacks.

4. SURFING
• Surfing is a surface water sport in which the surfer rides a surfboard
on the crest and face of a wave which is carrying the surfer towards
the shore. Waves suitable for surfing are found primarily in the
ocean, but are also sometimes found in lakes and rivers, and also in
manmade wave pools.
5. Models and techniques of surfing and board
• Within the surf "table" or surf itself, there are two basic categories depending on
the size and type of table:
8. LONGBOARD
• longboard, with tables of length equal to or greater than 2.75 m. This is the classic surf style
(practiced in the decades 50 and 60 is the one that gave rise to today's Longboards.
9. basic
movements in
the surf
TAKE OFF
Take Off: The first move made by surfers: is when you
stop lying on the table row and moves to the upright
position, ready to slip over the wave. It takes off on a
wave, more for its power in the wind.
10. • Bottom Turn: As its name indicates (in English, 'bottom' = down, 'turn' = turn), this maneuver is
the first turn after the "take off". Once we drive in the fall of the tide must turn to escape from
the wave that is breaking. At the bottom of the wave force of the wave ceases to move us, and
must maneuver the inertia of the drop to rise again. Otherwise, we would route directly to the
shore, we could not go through the wall of the wave and the foam of the broken wave reach us
quickly. It is the opposite of Cut Back.
11. CUT BACK
• Cut Back: is, once we have slipped down the wall of the wave escaping from the surf, take a
spin around 180 degrees to re-approach it.
12. RE-ENTRY
• Reentry: is up to the crest of the wave and make a sharp turn of 180
degrees, returning to lower it.
14. TUBE
• Tube: consists of sliding on the tube that creates the wave breaking. This is considered the
Queen of the Surf maneuver because of its difficulty and showmanship. It's the perfect wave
and dreamed of by all surfers. A place where you can experience these waves is in Cabo
Blanco, Peru
15. Air (or Air): the name given to any maneuver that results in a
take-off of water and is therefore in the air. There are different air
which are distinguished by the "grabs" (ways to hold the table with
his hands in the air in front, behind, with both hands at once ...-) or
movement that makes the surfer the air (one of the most spectacular
is the "air-360" in which the surfer performs a 360 degree rotation in
the air.
16. •360": It starts as a
re-entry, but it
continues to rotate in
the same direction 360
degrees.
17. Snap is a kind of
Cut-back
made more
abrupt, with a
smaller radius in
the turn.
