The Lottery Conflict
In The Lottery there was were different kinds of conflicts that were shown throughout the story.
All these types of conflict help create different moods and themes in stories. They give the reader
a sense of excitement or it can even scare them depending on what is going on. In this story it all
started off like it if was a beautiful peaceful town with people enjoying an event in the town
square. Until all the problems started occurring and you started looking at the characters moods did
you start to notice what was really wrong with everything. Once you get to the end you get to see
how horrid the story actually is compared to the beginning. The tradition known as The Lotteryis an
old one that almost every village would do, but by the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Compared to external conflicts which happen more out loud or with other people, internal conflicts
are kept more towards one person s inner self. In The Lottery, there also also internal conflicts that
can be found throughout it even though some people might not be able to notice it. An internal
conflict can be important to see throughout stories because they can show you the feelings of that
character. It may turn out that maybe the a certain character may be scared while another one is
having second thoughts about something. This can be crucial when reading stories and even
watching movie because they may give you ideas about what may occur in the near future. It is
what makes stories more interesting and make you want to keep on reading because you want have
the curiosity of what is going to happen next in the story.
Some internal conflicts found in The Lottery include when Tessie came in the village square
running late. She was worried when she arrived to the square late. It does not tell you why she
may have been worried, but maybe it was because she was worried about getting chosen and
getting killed. It may have also been because there was a chance that one of her family members
could get chosen too. In the story it doesn t tell you but from being late and worried it shows you
that there is some conflict there between herself which is Man vs.

Battle Of Vimy Ridge Essay
World War I, also known as the First World War, the Great War, or the War to End All Wars was a
global war originating in Europe that lasted from July 28th 1914 to November 11th 1918. During
the war, Canada had played a very important role under the British Empire. Canadian soldiers were
sent under the British Empire to capture Vimy Ridge, (a monument) which was held by the
Germans. The Battle of Vimy Ridge is Canadas most celebrated military victory an often
mythologized symbol of the birth of Canadian national pride and awareness. The four divisions of
the Canadian Corps, fought together for the first time, attacked the ridge from April 9th to 12th
1917, and captured it from the German army. Despite their success, more than 10,500 Canadians
were killed and wounded in the assault. Today, an iconic white memorial atop the ridge honours the
11,285 Canadians killed in France throughout the war who have no known graves.... Show more

Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was the nephew of Emperor Franz Josef and heir to the
throne of Austria and Hungary. The assassination was planned by a Serbian terrorist group, called,
The Black Hand . The man who shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife was a Bosnian revolutionary
named Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo Princip wanted the Austro Hungarian Empire out of Bosnia. To me,
the cause of the war was mainly nationalism and alliances. While Archduke Franz Ferdinand s
murder was the immediate cause for the declarations of war, a patchwork of mutual defence
alliances were made throughout Europe meaning, if one country was attacked, another was likely to
defend them. The allies included Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States. These
countries fought against the Central Powers which included Germany, Austria Hungary, Ottoman
Empire, and

Nazi Death Marches Analysis
Starting in the summer of 1944 the Nazi were getting defeated and the war was almost over.
When they realized that they would lose they wanted to get rid of all evidence of crimes, even
the survivors. Nazi s would burn the bodies of dead people and try to get rid of the camps but,
there was still survivors who could tell people what they had happen to them so the Nazi s
walked them on death marches in worse conditions than in the camp. Over 250,000 people died
on the marches but some lived to tell what happened and here is one of their stories. Gerda
Weissmann Klein is a Polish born, now American woman who went on one of these death
marches. She was first put in a forced labor camp when she was a teen and before she was her

Stretching Benefits
Stretching Exercise
Stretching exercise is very useful for physical fitness and the flexibility of the motion of joint and
muscles .It increases the capacity strength and flexibility of the body. Stretching exercise can
increase your range of motion and decrease your time on the sidelines.
Stretch Benefits: Stretching is easy way to release and contraction of a muscle or muscle group to
increase flexibility and strength and power. Greater range of motion of muscle and joints and
improved posture; the release of tension, reduced risk for injury; and greater mental and physical
relaxation and fitness are the outcomes of the stretching exercises .Stretching make u feel good

Excessive flexibility can cause to harm to your joints in certain positions as tension lends itself to
improved power. Moderate stretching however, helps to increase the flexibility and power. To get
the benefit, stretch gently after training and stop before it reach to the point where it can harm to
the joints . Low intensity stretching is also speeded up the removal of the waste material.
Safe Stretching:
Safe stretching mean it should be done according to the proper rule and training so that it should
not cause harm instead of benefits .we should get proper training from instructor to get its
advantages instead of disadvantages. We are to do exercise in a limit so it may not harm the joints
and increase the power strength and flexibility.
Detriments:
Over stretching or stretching to a point where pain is felt may be harmful and detrimental. Effects
on performance, both long and short term, may include injury and possible nerve damage which
can be permenant and could not be cured. Other research concludes that active stretching routines
will reduce viscosity in the joints and cause pain after some time when you get older. In sports
activities where there are little or no short stretching cycles stretching routines may be harmful to to
athletic performance and have no effect on reducing

Management 303 SWOT Analysis of USAA
Section I Organizational History
Fortune 500 company, United Services Automobile Association (USAA) began as a small group of
25 U.S. Army officers in 1922. Nearly 90 years later, it is now an organization with more than 7.4
million members, offering banking, investing, retirement and insurance services worldwide. Since
its inception, USAA has expanded membership eligibility to include all members of the Armed
Forces and their family. What makes USAA stand out is that it is not a corporation, but an inter
insurance exchange. This allows each member to be insured by every other member concurrently,
yet only liable for the premiums which they have paid in. Since ... Show more content on

Weakness #2 No Particular Agent The second organizational weakness is the lack of personalized
service. It s impossible to give personal attention to as many members as USAA has like it is for a
smaller community bank and insurance provider. Since the organization is so large, it is easy to
feel lost in the mix and just another number. Smaller community banks and insurance providers
have the benefit of getting to know their clients personally, may be better able to serve their
specific concerns and clients tend to be more comfortable doing business with someone from their
own community with whom they deal with consistently. Also, it can be frustrating that you are
unable to speak to the same representative twice when calling a large business such as USAA.
USAA can minimize this weakness by creating teams of representatives for their members. Each
member can be assigned to a team of 5 7 USAA representatives, one of which will be answering
that members concern. Teams would be comprised of representatives from each specialty (IRA
planning, mortgage help, banking etc.) and be available only to their customers. This strategy
would provide comfort to the members who like to deal with the same individuals when doing
business.
Section III Opportunities and Threats
Two opportunities presented to USAA are to expand the number of physical locations both
domestically and nationally and to provide additional services to programs already being used. Two

My First Year As Camp Director
I established a repport and friendship with many of the campers, and especially the counselors.
And this was only my first year as camp director! This was the group of youth that made me realize
that they have such an influence on the younger youth. I was able to see the campers imitate and
follow their counselors. I am excited to put my plans into motion for next summer. The feelings I
have for the youthI have gotten to know over the past year and a half is outrageous. I have so
much pride in them. They are truly amazing individuals. I have seen so much improvement in
them that now I can also see exponential potential in them also. It has only been one complete 4
H year and I cannot even imagine how I will feel five, 10 or 20 years from now. This gives me
the inspiration and motivation to work hard for these youth. I have assigned several roles to
myself to support the growth of older youth in my county and region. I will be a mentor, a friend,
a leader and motivator. I have an advantage when it comes to youth adult partnerships; my age can
dismantle the intimidating authority figure some older youth may see. Our generations, Y
(individuals born in 1981 through 1994) and Z (individuals born after 1994) (Schuckenbrock,
2016), may even overlap some (Geck, 2016). The years to determine Generations X, Y and Z tend
to change according to different sources. At the least, there may only be an 11 year difference

The Importance Of False Love In Sonnet 130 By William...
False love, desire, and beauty frail, adieu! Dead is the root whence all these fancies grew, (Sir
Walter Raleigh). Raleigh portrays the love of poets as false love, which is similar to the way
William Shakespeare describes it in Sonnet 130, where he mocks the way other poets exaggerate
their muses beauty. Though one would assume Shakespeare wrote this sonnetto give to his mistress,
he did not, as he was smart enough to know she would never talk to him again if he did. He in
fact wrote it to mock Petrarchan sonnets which exaggerated beauty to the point where it was no
longer real and it was obvious the poet s lovewent no deeper than the skin of their mistress. In the
sonnet Shakespeare first appears harsh in criticizing his mistress beauty, but as the sonnet
progresses, he subtly reveals that his love for her is unconditional to ultimately challenge society s
cliched beliefs of love.
In the first quatrain and the start of the second, Shakespeare is rather harsh in the way he
describes his mistress which helps later develop how true his love for her is. Shakespeare
contrasts his mistress eyes to the sun and describes them as dull, saying, my mistress eyes are
nothing like the sun, (1). In the Elizabethan era, a common beauty standard were bright eyes,
which is why in many Petrarchan sonnets writers describe their mistress eyes as bright as the
sun. But that is an exaggeration. Shakespeare, however portrays his mistress true features,
though they do not meet society s standards. This reveals that Shakespeare s love, unlike many
petrarchan poets , goes beneath his mistress skin. The use of juxtaposition creates the critical
tone Likewise, Shakespeare s harsh tone is prevalent in the first quatrain. The speaker intensifies
the critical attitude toward his mistress when he ridicules the color and texture of her hair. In the
Elizabethan era, a common beauty standard was fair hair, which is why many poets would
compare their mistress hair to gold, but Shakespeare compares his mistress hair to black wires.
He does this with a harsh tone, not just saying her hair is not fair, but going to the extent to
describe her hair in the most offensive way, saying, If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her

Genesis 8
How does the Church interpret the Bible or Scripture generally speaking? A partial answer to that
question is hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation and it functions alongside
exegesis which is the process of understanding what a particular text meant in its original context.
Exegesis would most likely be compared to the hashtag speak in today s society. While some
Catholics believe that exegesis is not as important as simplistic, devotional reading, it is quite
significant in respect to its relationship to hermeneutics. Proper hermeneutics avoids being
subjective and using fundamentalism. Why is hermeneutics important? It is important because it
allows one to properly interpret a text avoiding literalism and how such a text fits in today s... Show

As mentioned before, this method uses specific types of criticisms in order to better understand
the original meaning of the biblical text which are textual, literary, form and source criticism. To
begin, I will apply form criticism to the text. Form criticism essentially asks this question: What is
the genre of the text? Genesis chapter one through eleven are known as the Primeval History
because they recount the foundational event in the history of Israel before recorded making. As a
result these stories cannot be historically verified therefore belonging the genre known as Myth.
As so, Genesis 8 is of the Myth genre. A myth always contains a larger theological truth, it provides
a way of talking about the meaning of life, and it is a certain truth that escapes scientific and
historical documentation. Furthermore, that would make any other chapters in Genesis 1 11 a
myth. For example, Genesis 1 which contains one of the creation stories. The creation story is
considered a myth because the events cannot be historically proven. There is no legitimate place in
the world that accounts for the Garden of Eden as being a real

Porter s five forces applied to Zipcar
Threat of new entrants:
Potential new entrants include existing car rental firms, companies that currently supply cars to car
sharing businesses (such as Volkswagen), and new start up car sharing ventures. As Zipcar is
operating in only Boston, there are opportunities for new entrants (with sufficient resources) to
establish themselves as dominant car sharing service providers in other cities. This threat to the
profitability of Zipcar s planned future expansion activities would pressure Zipcar to expand
rapidly in order to remain ahead of the competition. A major barrier to entry is Zipcar s patented
technology involving wireless transmission of usage data between the shared cars and a server. New

Zipcar has invested heavily in developing a patented technology platform that can be used only

PBGD is the third enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of heme production and when the
production of this enzyme is stopped, or in some cases the activity of the enzyme is hindered, this
disease may develop. Acute Intermittent Porphyria causes abdominal pain, neurological and
psychiatric issues such as hallucinations and also results in an increase in levels of ALA heme
precursors and PBG in urine. The p.Gln204Lys mutation in exon 10 is evidenced to directly link
to the development of AIP. Analysing enzyme activity with the wild form of the mutation shows
the relationship between mutant and AIP. Glu204Lys showed to have 46 В± 0.72% of wild type
activity, which did not correlate with the expected 50% decrease in enzyme activity when
associated with mutants so, further analysis was undergone. Heat inactivation studies showed that
the PBGD is very stable but the wild enzyme lost 30% of its activity post incubation at
65o¬¬¬C for 240 mins. This data relates to the large number of ion pairs, which are built into
the enzyme structure. The half life of the mutant affected enzyme was three times less than the wild
enzyme type at 100 minutes which relates to AIP as a decrease in enzyme activity can lead to
symptoms of AIP. This then evidences that the Gln204lys has a negative effect on proteinstability.

Auckland, a highly populated city in New Zealand experiences traffic problems frequently. This
problems needs to be resolved through development of a road system that would tackle challenges
imposed by the population. Auckland Transport manages road projects in the city. One of the
projects in Auckland city that is underway by Auckland Transport (AT) is the upgrade of Dominion
Road project. AT inherited this project from the Auckland city council, which had earlier
undertaken public consultation for a proposed upgrade to Dominion Road. Key concerns from the
earlier consultation undertaken by the Auckland City Council included loss of on street parking,
and concerns that use of bus lanes by other vehicles would create four lane highway. AT in its
design includes the concerns raised and has engaged both the public, including the potentially
affected residents, and other key stakeholders from the government and the private sector. AT has
opened a feedback process in which views about the improvement of Dominion road are collected
to be examined and possibly to be approved and included in the final design.

Essay On My War Gone By Anthony Lloyd
My War Gone By, I miss it so by Anthony Lloyd is a fantastic story and memoir of his personal
struggles and experiences during the Bosnian war. The novel changes between his personal
experiences in Bosnia, personal reflections of his time in the British army, his parents divorce,
and heroin addiction. There are many exciting moments like looking through the sights of a
Muslim gun trained on a Serb soldier, traveling with a French mercenary, and fleeing from Serbs
during battle. There are also firefights and it gets gruesome at times, which is something to keep
in mind if you have a weak stomach. Lloyd started as a war correspondent came when another

Loyd conveys the experience of a war correspondent living at the front. He tells some personal
stories like how he almost booy trapped his neighbors latrine for shooting Lloyd s dog, because
the dog attacked his neighbors chicken. He only didn t because another neighbor talked him out
of it. He also talks about heroin addiction, his parents divorce, his family s military history, along
with the hardships of living in the front line. The war helped his heroin addiction, instead of
getting high off the drug he would get high off of the adrenaline from war. It was not necessarily
that I had `found myself during the war, but the conflict had certainly put a kind of buffer zone
between the fault lines in my head. Though it is interesting to see an insight of his personal life,
people looking for more of an insight of the war could get annoyed at how much personal
writing there is. It s not the big adventure story some people may be looking for. This novel
really lets you see the cruelty and brutality of the war. He talks about the war crimes committed,
the death and destruction that takes place in normal combat, firefights and getting shot at, and the
toll all of this takes on him and his comrades. Lloyd really makes you understand what war crimes
and ethnic cleansing are all about. The book does not detail out why the war was taking place nor
the world politics that were going on at the time, but

Analysis Of Anthem By Ayn Rand s Anthem
Things to Take Away From Anthem Imagine a world where you didn t have electricity and you
didn t have the right to be your own person. In Anthem by Ayn Rand that is how people lived.
Everyone in Anthem didn t know anything but the life that they are living. These people don t
have anything to miss from the way the world used to be. But some people knew that they
wanted more. Equality knew that. The lesson that was taken from this book is that a person is
in this type of situation and something tells them that something isn t right and it feels wrong.
That person needs to find a way to fix it or get out of the situation that is making them feel
uncomfortable. Equality and everyone else in this society did not know anything other than
what they were living. But eventually Equality knew that something was wrong and he made an
effort to find a way to get out of that situation. Equality wanted people to have more freedom and
to be able to make decisions of their own instead of following the path that someone else chose
for them. Equality had found a box with the power of the sky, as he called it, and he wanted to
share this power with the rest of the world. So when the world council rejected it when he shared
it with them, he ran. We knew not where we were going. We knew only that we must run, run to
the end of the world, to the end of our days (Rand 75). He ran as fast as he could just so no one
tried to take the one thing that gave him hope, which was a new feeling that he didn t quite
know he was feeling. Later when he and the Golden One had escaped together, the Golden One
had shared with Equality what she saw in him that she didn t see in other people. She told him
that his eyes are as a flame and he has hope(Rand 83). She saw what set him apart from other
people and it was what drew him to her. It is what she noticed and she loved it. That was the
moment where Equality realized that his effort to change the world for the better wouldn t be as
hard as he thought because he had someone there with him that would support him. His efforts
were finally starting to pay off. He found a way out of the situation and he his thriving. Equality
had tried his best to get other people to see that everything about

Symbolism Of Vampirism In Dracula
We can also see how the Victorian Society also helps create the story, how it is wrote and how it
influences Dracula so much. Vampirism is just a polite way Stoker has made to secretly talk about
sex since anything that brought a blush to your cheeks was forbidden during the Victorian era. For
example, when Lucy first gets bitten while sleepwalking There was undoubtedly something, long
and black, bending over the half reclining white figure (Dracula98). Lucy gets bitten by Dracula
and she is already talking with three other men, ends up marrying one, this is in no way the ideal
Victorian woman. Not only is she not an ideal Victorian woman, but to add on to the list of why
she is not The vampiric tradition of blood sucking is symbolic of the exchange of bodily fluids
during sex. For Stoker, writing in the sexually repressed Victorian age, vampirism is a
convenient metaphor for sex and the closest he could get to writing about sex in a respectable
novel (NovelGuide). As we all know she has many exchanges of bodily fluids, not only the
blood sucking of Dracula, but in fact blood transfusions from all three men as they vowed to
never speak of it since Arthur believes that the transfusion made him and Lucy truly married
None of us said a word of the other operations, and none of us ever shall (Dracula 188). Even

gesture to save Lucy s life as opposed to Dracula s blood being the

Professionalism In Corrections
The increase of professionalism in corrections facilities and among correction officers is critical and
not everyone is cut out to perform such tasks. Furthermore, historical flaws among correction
institutes and adapting to new ways in rehabilitating offenders have transitioned into a more
professional process than earlier correction institutes. One early reformer, Richard A. McGee,
changed the nature of correctionsin California by upgrading the physical plants and staffing
patterns, by institutional research, and by developing alternatives to imprisonment , (Siegel
Bartollas, 2014, p. 345). Furthermore, the small transition that McGee implemented was a new
movement in taking correction facilities to a new direction and creating a more professional
environment among correction institutes. Indeed, notable mentions for their dedication in

The American Correctional Code of Ethics has seventeen codes that reflect how a correctional
officer must adhere to in regards to ethics and integrity (Siegel Bartollas, 2014). Therefore,
integrity and ethics are simply doing the right thing regardless of the situation that has
developed. All of these elements concoct a professional workplace among corrections as well as
any law enforcement capacity and are the driving force for advancing to an even more
professional workplace. Professionalism among correction facilities and staff members goes
beyond the scope of rules and guidelines on paper, as each staff member must treat an inmate with
dignity and respect as well as their colleagues (Siegel Bartollas, 2014). In my opinion, the key to
ascertaining professionalism begins with each employee wanting to make a difference in someone s

Hill, fought between the British forces and the American forces. This battle is known as the Battle
Of Bunker Hill. The Battle Of Bunker Hill had happened for many reasons. One of those reasons,
according to the text David F. Burg confirms that Artemas Ward sent 1,000 men commanded by
William Prescott to protect Bunker Hill from the British. In the text David F. Burg also said that
another reason is that when the soldiers got on the Charleston Peninsula they ignored Wards order,
and started to fortify Breed s Hill instead of Bunker Hill. Also, in the text David F. Burg states that

One of the leaders was William Prescott, the commander of the American forces. William
Prescott was a very brave leader, he was also very cautious about the American forces

the American Forces were very low on ammunition, and they needed to conserve the ammo they
had left. Another leader was Major General William Howe, he was the commander of the the

Indigenous Tribes of Latin America
Indigenous People of Latin America
Throughout the world, when new lands were conquered, old customs would be lost. However, in
Latin America, a great deal of their indigenous tribes not only survived being conquered, they are
still around today. Different regions of Latin America are home to different peoples and many
tribes are part of ancient full fledged kingdoms. Some of these kingdoms are among the most well
known in the world.

The Incas of Cusco originally represented one of these small and relatively minor ethnic groups, the
Quechuas. Gradually, as early as the thirteenth century, they began to expand and incorporate their

warriors with a strong and powerful army. Because of the fierceness of their army and their
hierarchical organization, they became the largest Native American society. Quechua is the most
widely spoken language and was the language of the Inca Empire.
Tropical rainforests have long been home to indigenous peoples who have shaped civilizations and
cultures based on the environment in which they live. Great civilizations like the Mayas, Incas, and
Aztecs developed complex societies and made great contributions to science. Living from nature
and lacking the technology to dominate their environment, native peoples have learned to watch
their surroundings and understand the intricacies of the rainforest. Over generations these people
have learned the importance of living within their environment and have come to rely on the
countless renewable benefits that forests can provide.

Lab Report On Colligative Properties

Lab 11: Keep It Liquid
Introduction
The purpose of this lab was to study colligative properties. These properties are properties that are
affected when a solute is added to a solvent. Thus, the amount is important, not the actual type of
substance, for the colligative properties. A couple types of this property are the freezing point and
boiling point of a substance. (1) The specific property observed in this lab was the freezing point
depression caused by the additives. This is the change in the freezing point between a standard
solvent and said solvent with added solutes. This changes the entropy of the system, making the
properties change somewhat, lowering the freezing point itself with the addition of more solute.
Hence, the term freezing point depression . A similar effect leads me to my hypothesis. Boiling
point elevation is, like freezing point depression, a colligative property. When cooking something
on a stove at higher elevations, salt (a solute) is added to the water in order to enable the water to
go to higher temperatures without boiling. The more salt is added, the higher the temperature is able
to go. Knowing this, it makes sense that the largest amount of solute will lower the temperature of
our chosen solvent, tert butanol, the most.
Method
As stated, our solvent in this lab will be tert butanol. We start by recording the freezing point of this
substance without anything added. Then, we add various

Julius Caesar and Other Shakespearian Tragedies
Shakespearian tragedies usually have a well defined tragic hero. According to Aristotle, a Greek
philosopher, a tragic hero is a character of high rank and nobility, exhibits a tragic flaw, and
recognizes how his actions led to his eventual downfall. William Shakespeare s The Tragedy of
Julius Caesar incited a century old argument over who really deserves the title of The Tragic Hero.
Many argue that Caesar is the tragic hero. However, I believe that Brutus should hold the title of
tragic hero because he is a noble and respected man, he holds tragic flaw of poor judgment. But
most importantly, what separates him from Caesar, is that he recognizes how these flaws and his
decision to murder his leader resulted in his own demise.
To accomplish their plan, the conspirators needed a noble man of high stature to justify their
actions. The best man for the job was Brutus. Brutus was Caesar s best friend, loved by the
people, and he loved the people back. Therefore, it only made sense for the conspirators to recruit
Brutus guarantees the support of the Roman people. Cassius admits this too, Brutus shall lead,
and we will grace his heels / With the most boldest and best hearts of Rome (3.1.135 136).
Cassius himself says that Brutus s credibility will lead to the success of the plan. If Brutus leads
the way, then the people will assume that maybe Caesar s death was not that terrible since this
noble man killed Caesar. Brutus s nobility in the conspiracy not only convinced the

The Consequences Of Whaling And Its Effects On The...
Whaling is the hunting of whales to obtain meat and blubber. The blubber is brought to a station
off the shore designed to boil the blubber into oil (Hacquebord 2001). All these components of a
whale are useful to humans, but by extracting these whales at such a high rate may have
consequences for the ecosystem they leave behind (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Baum
and Worm 2009). It is important to question the effects mass exploitation has on the environment
in order to prevent or predict certain unwanted changes for future removal (Williams et al.
2004;Baum and Worm 2009). Whaling has been studied from various time periods and different
places around the world (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007;Baum and Worm
2009).
In 1977 there was an increase in certain species of lions and seals in British Columbia, while in
Alaska there was a decrease of seals and sea lions (Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007).
Because this happened after commercial whaling, many attribute the decline with cascading top
down effect (Trites et al. 2007). There are many other factors that make an impact and based on
research the removal of the whales did not cause the shift in seals and sea lions (Trites et al.
2007). Most studies are conducted to focus on the predator and a species of prey of a neighboring
trophic layer (Baum and Worm 2009). Another whaleinfluencing this environment is the Killer
whale (Williams et al. 2004). These need an incredibly high calorie diet

ADVANTAGES OF USING SUPERANNUATION TO PURCHASE A FIRST HOME
The Australian Federal Government in recent years announced a contentious proposal in which first
home buyers should access their initial superannuation savings to purchase their property. Most
recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) as of February 2015 highlighted the
increase in first home buyer population in their early thirties to forties by 57%. This is in contrast
to the greater number of first home buyers aged in their early twenties and thirties when housing
was more affordable, (Marinos, 2015).
The proposal for first home buyers using superannuation savings to finance the purchase of their
first home was raised initially by now current South Australian senator Nick Xenophon and former
Treasurer Joe Hockey MP back in 2014, (Marinos, 2015). The proposals forwarded by the South
Australian independent senator are meritorious for two reasons. Firstly, home buyers seeking to
gain ascendancy onto the real estate market can do so by purchasing property via superannuation
funds, (Gadd, n.d.). Secondly, using a proportion of superannuation savings could result in the
creation of affordable housing and the prevention of real estate speculation. The South Australian
senator cites a housing affordability measure currently operating in

The Effectiveness Of John Rawls A Theory Of Justice
Rawls Theory of Justice

University of British Columbia
John Rawls in his work, A Theory of Justice, aims to make up a theory that will rivals intuitionalists
and utilitarianism, which seeks truth in morality that cause results in maximizing utility for the
maximum number of people. Rawls theory of justice is a distribution theory that maximizes
primary goods for the worst outcome an individual could be in. By primary goods, Rawls informs
us that all rational and reasonable individuals will want to have certain fundamental goods that
should not be denied anyone. These goods include liberty, autonomy, self respect, and wealth, as I
will later discuss in Rawls principle of equal liberty. To provide an argument that will combat
utilitarianism, the philosopher uses a revised social contract theory that is to a tune of higher
abstraction (Rawls, pg.10) than its predecessors John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Immanuel
Kant. In my essay I will discuss Rawls original position and veil of ignorance that will lead us to
his two principles of justice. I will also discuss American philosopher Robert Nozick objection to
Rawls principles and defend Rawls argument. My essay will end in discussing the effectiveness of
Rawls social contract theory in combating utilitarianism. In Rawls justice as fairness theory, the
original position essentially substitutes Hobbes state of nature. According to

Reflection Of The Film Corner In Wheat
Corner in Wheat Reflection Paper Corner in Wheat is a film created by D.W. Griffith in 1909. The
film focuses on the three divisions of the wheat market, which was rare at the time because most
films during the early twentieth century focused on people. The first division showcases the
farmers who grow the wheat. The next division portrays the Wheat King, a wealthy businessman
who controls the wheat market. The last division follows the bakery, the place that distributes the
wheat, and the consumers who purchase the bread that is made from the wheat. The filmhas a
variety of elements within the shots of the film. The depth of field is one of the elements that can
be viewed in Corner in Wheat. One of the last shots in the film is the farmersprinkling wheat on the
field. This shot shows how the camera moves from background to the front ground, which
presents deep space. The farmer is shown walking from a distance sprinkling the wheat,
eventually, as he continues walking he moves closer to the camera as he goes about his business.
The depth of the field of the farmer s field is different than the depth of field in the grain elevator.
D.W. Griffin emphasizes space with the background because of the layout which, directly extends
straight back to a door, making this shot have deep space. Moreover, the movement of the people
goes left to right. The staircase is on the left and stands near the hole where the wheat is falling into
the hole and the people are told to continue

Ronald Reagan Conservatism
The 1980 election of Ronald Reagan was not only significant because it was the start of a new

Reagan definitely had merit in pursuing his endeavors.
Ronald Reagan, who hailed from Illinois, enrolled in Eureka College after graduating from high

active role in the actor s union. Although initially a registered Democrat, Reagan eventually crossed

Imperialism of India by Britain Essay
Imperialism is the domination of one country of the political, economic, or cultural life of another
country. Imperialism is more often than not fueled by two major schools of thought known as
nationalism and Social Darwinism. Nationalism is a feeling of pride and devotion to one s
country. This can drive a person to think that their country is the most powerful, and in essence
drives that person mad with power and a hunger to conquer, which not ironically is exactly what
many countries did. Social Darwinism is the very idea that a more powerful country conquer the
smaller countries. Survival of the fittest, as the well renowned Charles Darwinused to say.

Britain s a great example because we see an economic growth and a modernization of India, but we
also see the rights of the people slowly fading into the shadows. Britain took over India after a
brief struggle with France; initially to aid in its economy; mainly its textiles. The plan was to
have Indians harvest raw materials to ship back to Britain. Britain would therefore have cheap
raw materials sent back to them; because India was mercantilist (could only trade with the mother
country) they did not have much of a choice but to sell to Britain cheaply. Britain therefore
always had a steady source of raw materials Britain would turn raw materials into finished
products that it would ship back to India and sell to Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians
liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of income. The most useful Indian industry for
Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian cotton for clothing. India made for a

Louisa May Alcott My Contraband Summary
Louisa May Alcott s My Contraband and Its Ethical Implications As stated by intellectual Joseph
Wong, influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our perspectives (Young Ch. 6). Throughout
history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their
audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in
1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and
issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer,
lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman
and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an
independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark
headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt,
Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a
writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and,
through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her
ideals into their lives. For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband, first titled
The Brothers. The piece featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was in

to take a tumble. It is not impossible for former members of Congress to climb back into a seat
in the House or the Senate, but being given the boot in any type of field, never mind a high
pressure one like politics, is a big fear for anyone. Thus, politicians in Congress look to make
decisions that please not only their colleagues but those who go to the polls in order to protect

My Personal Educational Philosophy Essay
Educational Philosophy Essay My personal educational philosophy is a combination of
perennialism and essentialism, which leaves me uniquely well armed to teach my subject of
choice: History. History, viewed as a whole, is a monument to the achievements of Man. It is
unchanging, though new aspects may be found or brought to light, and it can be viewed from many
angles, it is an unchanging truth that what happened, has indeed happened. Through a thorough and
guided exploration of this subject, students can learn many of the essential skills they will need to
succeed later in life. My desire to teach and the development of my particular philosophycan be
relatively easily derived from my own, personal, history. My earliest memorable connection with
the subject that defines me came from semi monthly trips to my great grandparents home in
Jacksonville, TX. Every trip we would pass a large stone monument to Sam Houston, a man who
was essential to the development of the state of Texas. After enough questions about his life my
parents took us on a trip to San Antonio, Texas, where the Presidio San Antonio de Bexar sits The
Alamo. Here I began to delve into military history, and the complexity of stories being written
from both sides of the trenches and firing lines. Reading those stories, and the experiences of the
men in them, I realized that they were experiencing feelings similar to ones that regular people
experience on a daily basis: anxiety, depression, self doubt, and

Melting Pot Of India
Melting Pot India has a proud rich history, stretching back thousands of years. The name India
originates from the Old Persian word Hindu. It is located on the southern subcontinent of Asia.
India shares borders with Pakistan, China, Nepal, and Bangladesh. India has not always been on
the greatest terms with some of the neighboring countries which have led to four different armed
conflicts. It has a population of approximately 1.34 billion people. One third of the land mass that
makes up Indiais coastline. 1858 would mark both a political and economic unification of the
subcontinent by the British. The Indo Pakistan war of 1947 would mark the first of four armed
conflict that India would engage Pakistan in. By the end of the Indo Pakistan war of 1999 both
of the neighboring countries, would continue to have other border skirmishes all the way up to
present time. Overall since 2003 India and Pakistan s military have been at an agreed ceasefire
agreement. India s military is credited as have the fourth largest army in the world. The Indian
military has been working for many years now to modernize its military equipment to the modern
standards of that of other militaries around the world. Even though numbers for the Indian army
have been on the rise based off the modernization plan set by its government. The reason for the

The Cardiac Cycle
To keep the blood moving around the body supplying vital nutrients to cells and removing waste,
a cycle of contractions (systole) and relaxations (diastole) take place, this cycle is known as the
cardiac cycle. There are three stages to the cardiac cycle, all stages happen during one heartbeat
(cycle) and take less than a second in total (Revisionworld.com, 2017), these different stages are
pictured in figure 11.
During stage one the pressure in both ventricles decreases as they relax, the atrioventricular valves
open slightly and blood is pumped through them due to a contraction of the atria. Blood is
prevented from flowing backwards as the valves of the vena cava and pulmonary vein close. During
stage two pressure in the ventricles increases

Othello Nobility Analysis
The Inability of the Nobility
Nobility does not necessarily translate into strength and virtue, as seen many times again
throughout history. This lack of nobility is found within William Shakespeare s play Tragedy of
Othello, which follows the life of Othello, a Venetian Moor that has earned his place in society
through his acts of valor in battle. Othello wins the love of Desdemona, who is the daughter of a
Venetian elite and is also lusted after by a nobleman named Roderigo. Roderigo follows them
around throughout the play and tries to use Othello s inner circle to gain her love. He is a
nobleman who has a lot of power within their society. Although Roderigo is viewed by himself and
others as noble in Aristotelian Society, his attempts to buy Desdemona s love and his lack of moral
conscience demonstrate that his birth into nobility does not make him an honorable person, shown
through his insecurities and regrettable tone as he dies.
Roderigo uses his wealth to try and control Iago and to buy Desdemona s love in order to hide his
own insecurities. This is shown when Roderigo confronts Iago about the money he has been
giving him to try and pay for Desdemona s love but it fails. Iago intends to keep extorting Roderigo
for his money, even though Roderigo says it belongs to Iago, as if the strings were thine . Iago
apologizes for failing Roderigo, and Roderigo repents on his accusations towards him. If ever I did
dream of such a matter, Abhor me (1.1 5 6). Here Roderigo is

communication to include all children. In my class the children are always greeted with a smile,
good morning and how are you today. Some of the children have news to tell you. I get down to
their level and have eye contact and listen to what they have to say. I always show interest in what
they are saying as it boosts their confidence and shows that you care. When talking to the children I

and will know they need help. We also use sign language like thumbs up for good work, have
you been good, facial expression like smiling or sad face let children know that they may not be
making the right choices. The children in my class find it very difficult either to sit still or do
work or both so they have charts that have faces on green happy, yellow need to try harder and
red sad. The children in my class need close contact due to their ages or they need more help
than other children because of their special needs. I always give eye contact when working with
the children and show that I m interested in what they are saying. I bend down to their level or sit

Essay On Path Loss Model
Several existing path loss models exist as discussed above among other ones, but the best existing
path loss model with the closest propagation exponent [36], to the measured path loss data, will be
chosen as a reference for the development of the adapted path loss model for a particular
environment. Many related research works have been done in this area.
In [37] path loss models were presented from experimental data collected in Port Harcourt South
South region of Nigeria from 10 existing microcells operating at 876MHz. The path loss models
for the urban and the suburban areas of Port Harcourt were developed from the results of the
measurements. The data were collected using the net monitor application of NOKIA 1265 CDMA

The Development of Digital Audio Workstations
When it comes to recording in a modern day environment DAW s (digital audio workstation) are
an essential piece of equipment if professional standard results are desired. Although DAW s are
considered a modern technological advancement the first attempt at a DAW was in 1977 and it
came from Dr. Tom Stockham s Soundstream (See references for full description) digital
system. It had very powerful editing capabilities and for its time a very advanced crossfader but
was still primitive compared to today s standard. At this moment there are 100 s of DAW s on the
market but arguably there some obvious leaders. Avid s Pro Tools has been the go to DAW for
any professional studio for the past 20 years and although there have been rumors of Avid... Show

categorized into groups based upon their individual synthesis. 10 Saw Lead emulates a fairly
typical saw synth, being a saw wave based synth it is very loud and clear and is made by adding
a series of sine waves together at different frequencies. Compared to Logic there are a more

Gender Roles In The Media
Gender Roles
In today s world us humans are surrounded by the media which shapes our beliefs, behavior, and
perspective. Within the media, there is a vast amount of gender roles, stereotypes, and
sexualization that clout our views on what we think of eachother. Gender roles consist of what
people are drawn to believe what is the correct way to speak, act, and dress. Gender roles within the
media sway the way that people think, which should not happen because there is no true definition
of what intelligence, beauty, or what normal behavior is. Gender roles create stereotypes, body
images, suggest that women aren t equal to men, and imply that people should act a certain way.
Gender roles within the media have an immense impact of what information impacts and influences
people and their thoughts.
Within our world today (that consists of incredible, advanced technology) stereotypes are found

Analysis Of Angry Birds Match
What is Angry Birds Match?
Angry Birds Match is Rovio Games sixteenth entry in their ever popular series of action puzzle
games for mobile and tablet devices. The game launched for iOS on November 11th, 2016 and
on Android on August 31st, 2017. The app is available for download on all current iOS and
Android devices (later than Android 5.0). The game also ties into the recently released feature film
The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and its tie in television series, Blues.
The main storyline of this game focuses on you rescuing Hatchlings from pigs by solving puzzles.
The Bad Piggies want to disrupt the eternal party of the Hatchlings via some well placed petty theft
for mysterious, spiteful reasons as yet unknown. This injustice is resolved by you clearing levels to
return the Hatchling s stuff and things to their rightful owners.
Unlike some of the previous games in the series, this entry is a casual gaming puzzler similar in
style to Candy Crush. The gameplay focuses heavily on three in a row tile matching. You must
clear your way through an enormous series of challenge maps across many worlds, stretching to
more than 1000 levels. There are many different objectives for each map. These range from simply
removing all the pigs from play to placing different tiles together to reach a set number of combos.
The main game differs quite a bit from Candy Crush, however. If you ve ever played Tetris, Dig
Dug, or Bubble Bobble, you may recognise a few of the casual gaming mechanics here.
Early on, your main objectives will be centred on finding a way to pop the green piggies (the
natural enemy of the enraged avian) by completing block combinations next to them. Features
such as glass, mud, glue, crates, and bricks and some additional objectives will make it harder for
you to beat levels as you progress. Bird based special attacks can also be used to clear levels.
Chaining blocks together in certain ways will cause Red, Chuck, and Bomb to materialise into
play. Each has their own style of special ability with which to use to clear the field.
New to this game is a shop, reward chests, and unique loot. You can progress through purchasing
items with a currency system based around coins and gems. Buying or

How Did The Unfit Emperors Lead To The Fall Of Rome
The Western Roman Empire was one of the greatest Empires of the world
In the Western Roman Empire politics was the first contributing factor the fall of it. One of the
many reasons is because of their unfit emperors. They had many. The ones who were unfit, were
greedy and used cruelty to control and keep control of their empire. Not all showed the ability to
be the emperor, some of them inherited the throne, and some of the people who did had a
mentally unstable personality. Some Emperors were assassinated by their Praetorian Guard for
position or money. Once the Praetorian Guard assassinates the emperor, if they had a leader their
leader would become the emperor. As a result of the unfit emperors civil wars broke out across
Rome. Legions fought one another. The citizens of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

were impossible to protect and control. They also built walls, but they didn t have enough

the throne that they lost focus on their jobs. Roman legionaries became weak therefore the
Romans hired Germanic mercenaries. Mercenaries are people who kill in war for people who pay
them. Unfortunately for the Romans they got a mind of their own and turned their backs on the
Romans. Sense the legionaries lost focus on their job, the Germanic tribes found that it was the
best time to attack Rome. When they did they destroyed some of the aqueducts which shortened
the fresh water supply. This was a very smart thing for the Germanic tribes to do because you can
only live without fresh water for less than a week. When the rivers, Rhine and Danube Rivers, froze
it helped the invaders sense they could just walk over it. Which is exactly what helped Germanic
Chief Alaric and Germanic tribes invade Rome and burn it to the ground in 410

Themes Of Greed In Adam Mitchell s Cloud Atlas
Cloud Atlas is a book composed of six different writings from a multitude of writers such as
Adam Ewing, Cavendish, Sonmi, and Frobisher. These stories are written in a different time
period but show a lot of the same ideals and themes. There are many themes that present
themselves in cloud atlas but the one that appealed to me most was greed. Mitchell did a very
good job in showing greed in each of the chapters in a variety of different ways whether it was a
minimal or large amount. In addition, the author also related both the future and the past to the
current time to show what is arguably the worst characteristic one can have. I believe that Mitchell
chose the theme of greed to show that all humans will do nearly anything to satisfy their personal
needs and wants. While reading Cloud Atlas I realized that there is at least minimal traces of greed
in each writing. The writing of Adam Ewing, Luisa Rey, Sonmi 451, and Cavendish expressed the
most greed out of the six.
The first chapter of the book opens up with Adam Ewing s journal. At first he writes about the
strange man named Dr. Goose and picking up teeth on the beach. Although Ewing was a bit
skeptical of Goose at first, it seemed that they became closer as the book progressed until a
particular situation. Later, Adam writes about when Dr. Goose and himself walked up on a
whipping of a particular slave names Autua who comes in later into the story and ends up being a
very important character when saving Adam s life.

Essay on Price Discrimination
Price Discrimination Prices are based upon the price elasticity of demand in each given market.
In other terms, this means that during ladies night at the local bar, it costs more for men to have
a beer than women simply because these bars find it o.k. to charge females less, as a way to draw
more females to the business on a specific night. Pricediscriminationis part of the commercial and
business world. Movie theaters, magazines, computer software companies, and thousands of other
businesses have discounted prices for students, children, or the elderly. One important note though,
is that price discrimination is only present when the exact same product is sold to different people
for different prices. First class vs. coach... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
2) The firm can easily and accurately identify each customer. 3) There is not a significant resale
market for the good in question.
The thought process behind the practice of first degree price discrimination is that the firm has
enough accurate information about the consumer, and that products can be sold each time for the
maximum amount that the consumer is willing to pay. The two more common examples of first
degree price discrimination is called price skimming and all or none offers . Skimming refers to
the demand function, as firms take the top of the demand of a given good to maximize profits on
the sale. This, of course, requires that the firm know the actual demand for the good that it
produces. The firm must divide its customers into distinct, independent groups based upon their
respective demands for the good. The firm wants to first sell to the group who will pay the highest
price for the new product. It then reduces the cost slightly and sells to another group with only a
slightly less demand for the good. This process is copied on numerous occasions until the marginal
revenue drops to equal marginal cost. While this example may seem similar to other examples of
price discrimination, you should remember that the most significant difference here is that there are
a virtually limitless number of possible prices that, if charges

American Security and Police Modeled After The English
As we are now living in a century where everything is more organized, when a crime is committed,
the first thing that comes to our minds is police officers. Due to the fact that we are surrounded by
thousands of police departments, we no longer give them the right attention they deserve; rather we
take them for granted. Well before it was nothing compare to now, it took many years for England
to develop a security system, which later on America copied some of the fundamental techniques.
England helped America guide the policing system to be more effective. Such as something so
basic as the title Sheriffs come from the word shire reeves, which is from England (The History of
Policing, 2014, p.3). English plays an extremely essential role in American policing. America
adopted the English common law; the high importance placed on individual privileges, the court
structure, and numerous methods of punishment, alongside with local authority of law enforcement
agencies. This adapting s contributed three stable qualities to American policing. The first one was
tradition of restricted policepower. Second one was tradition of law enforcement agencies. Lastly
extremely distributed, and divided system of law enforcement. Due to that system we adopted the
United States is distinctive in developing about 15,000 individual law enforcement agencies, focus
merely to minimum organization and very tiny national power or procedures (Walker and Katz,
2002 p.24).

Solar Power Essay
Solar Power: An Alternative Energy Source
Since first discovered in the 1860s, the concept of storing energy from the sun to use as a source
of power has been studied and pursued by many programs. Either using solar collectors or
photovoltaic cells, the methods of using solar power are becoming more efficient and cost
effective. Solar technology is currently being used by homes and businesses, but is still too
expensive and risky for many residents. Researchers are still making advances to solar technology
for it to be a feasible energy source in the future.
Solar energy was first started in the 1860s when Auguste Mouchout and William Adams found a
way for storing solar radiation into tanks of water. Since then, there have been ... Show more content

Because silicon cells are only semi conductive, it is harder to generate an electrical current, and
therefore require collective grids to transfer electrons through a series of thin wires. Although
collective grids are the
Solar Power 3 most efficient way of solving conductive issues, it is expensive to produce.
Instead, photolithography is used to attach the metal grid to the cell. After the development of
PV cells in the 1940s, little progress was made for the next few years because of its expensive
cost. However, it was used in the space industry in the 1950s and 60s. Now, with nanotechnology
and other improvements, there is possibility for cheaper and more efficient production. Finally,
there are uses of solar furnaces to collect solar energy in a small area by reflecting the heat using
mirrors. An example of this is a solar furnace in Odellio, France that has the ability to heat up to
33,000 degrees Celsius (Darvill, 2007, para. 11).
Experiments with Solar Power Plants:
The Mojave Desert is an ideal place for solar power plants since it is so insolated and has more
sunlight than most areas of the United States. The Solar Energy Generating Systems were nine
trough power plants built in 1980s converting sunlight into electricity. Combined, they produced
354 MW of power, enough to support 500,000 people and making it a successful project.
(Wikipedia, 2007, para. 1).

Part 1: #1 Through various sources from the past, it was relatively easy to determine the overall
perception towards Africans that dominated much of the 19th and 20th centuries. During these
times, Africans were seen as primitive and savage. They were inferior and less evolved in
comparison tot heir Western counterparts. For the most part, they believed that Africans had made
little, if any, progress since some humans left the continent and established themselves in other parts
of the world. While this viewpoint may seem ludicrous to most modern people, Westerners actually
based their claims on various theories. A major theory used to promulgate this viewpoint was the
concept of Social Darwinism. This theory holds that human beings, like other organisms, ares
subject to the concepts natural selection and survival of the fittest (kiem article). Social
Darwinism was readily employed as justifications to why Africans were inferior, and had slipped
behind in the race towards progress (connah 1). They had stopped developing a long time ago, and,
as a result, continued to live in savagery. Africawas the past, and the Western worldwas the present
and future. Research at the time did little to abate African stereotypes. Research mainly served the
purpose of studying human evolution rather than the place...[because it is] merely a backdrop to
studies pertaining to how Western culture has managed to establish itself as superior

All these types of conflict help create different moods and themes in stories. They give the reader a sense of excitement or it can even scare them depending on what is going on. Until all the problems started occurring and you started looking at the characters moods did you start to notice what was really wrong with everything. • 4. Battle Of Vimy Ridge Essay World War I, also known as the First World War, the Great War, or the War to End All Wars was a global war originating in Europe that lasted from July 28th 1914 to November 11th 1918. During the war, Canada had played a very important role under the British Empire. Canadian soldiers were sent under the British Empire to capture Vimy Ridge, (a monument) which was held by the Germans. The Battle of Vimy Ridge is Canadas most celebrated military victory an often mythologized symbol of the birth of Canadian national pride and awareness. The four divisions of the Canadian Corps, fought together for the first time, attacked the ridge from April 9th to 12th 1917, and captured it from the German army. Despite their success, more than 10,500 Canadians were killed and wounded in the assault. Today, an iconic white memorial atop the ridge honours the 11,285 Canadians killed in France throughout the war who have no known graves.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria was the nephew of Emperor Franz Josef and heir to the throne of Austria and Hungary. The assassination was planned by a Serbian terrorist group, called, The Black Hand . The man who shot Franz Ferdinand and his wife was a Bosnian revolutionary named Gavrilo Princip. Gavrilo Princip wanted the Austro Hungarian Empire out of Bosnia. To me, the cause of the war was mainly nationalism and alliances. While Archduke Franz Ferdinand s murder was the immediate cause for the declarations of war, a patchwork of mutual defence alliances were made throughout Europe meaning, if one country was attacked, another was likely to defend them. The allies included Britain, France, Russia, Italy and the United States. These countries fought against the Central Powers which included Germany, Austria Hungary, Ottoman Empire, and ... Essay about Usaa Swot Analysis | USAA SWOT Analysis| | | Management 303 SWOT Analysis of USAA Section I Organizational History Fortune 500 company, United Services Automobile Association (USAA) began as a small group of 25 U.S. Army officers in 1922. Nearly 90 years later, it is now an organization with more than 7.4 million members, offering banking, investing, retirement and insurance services worldwide. Since its inception, USAA has expanded membership eligibility to include all members of the Armed Forces and their family. What makes USAA stand out is that it is not a corporation, but an inter insurance exchange. This allows each member to be insured by every other member concurrently, yet only liable for the premiums which they have paid in. Since ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Weakness #2 No Particular Agent The second organizational weakness is the lack of personalized service. It s impossible to give personal attention to as many members as USAA has like it is for a smaller community bank and insurance provider. Since the organization is so large, it is easy to feel lost in the mix and just another number. Smaller community banks and insurance providers have the benefit of getting to know their clients personally, may be better able to serve their specific concerns and clients tend to be more comfortable doing business with someone from their own community with whom they deal with consistently. Also, it can be frustrating that you are unable to speak to the same representative twice when calling a large business such as USAA. USAA can minimize this weakness by creating teams of representatives for their members. Each member can be assigned to a team of 5 7 USAA representatives, one of which will be answering that members concern. Teams would be comprised of representatives from each specialty (IRA planning, mortgage help, banking etc.) and be available only to their customers. This strategy would provide comfort to the members who like to deal with the same individuals when doing business. Section III Opportunities and Threats Two opportunities presented to USAA are to expand the number of physical locations both domestically and nationally and to provide additional services to programs already being used. This was the group of youth that made me realize that they have such an influence on the younger youth. I was able to see the campers imitate and follow their counselors. I am excited to put my plans into motion for next summer. The feelings I have for the youthI have gotten to know over the past year and a half is outrageous. I have so much pride in them. They are truly amazing individuals. I have seen so much improvement in them that now I can also see exponential potential in them also. It has only been one complete 4 H year and I cannot even imagine how I will feel five, 10 or 20 years from now. This gives me the inspiration and motivation to work hard for these youth. I have assigned several roles to myself to support the growth of older youth in my county and region. I will be a mentor, a friend, a leader and motivator. I have an advantage when it comes to youth adult partnerships; my age can dismantle the intimidating authority figure some older youth may see. Our generations, Y (individuals born in 1981 through 1994) and Z (individuals born after 1994) (Schuckenbrock, 2016), may even overlap some (Geck, 2016). • 9. The Importance Of False Love In Sonnet 130 By William... False love, desire, and beauty frail, adieu! Dead is the root whence all these fancies grew, (Sir Walter Raleigh). Raleigh portrays the love of poets as false love, which is similar to the way William Shakespeare describes it in Sonnet 130, where he mocks the way other poets exaggerate their muses beauty. Though one would assume Shakespeare wrote this sonnetto give to his mistress, he did not, as he was smart enough to know she would never talk to him again if he did. He in fact wrote it to mock Petrarchan sonnets which exaggerated beauty to the point where it was no longer real and it was obvious the poet s lovewent no deeper than the skin of their mistress. In the sonnet Shakespeare first appears harsh in criticizing his mistress beauty, but as the sonnet progresses, he subtly reveals that his love for her is unconditional to ultimately challenge society s cliched beliefs of love. In the first quatrain and the start of the second, Shakespeare is rather harsh in the way he describes his mistress which helps later develop how true his love for her is. Shakespeare contrasts his mistress eyes to the sun and describes them as dull, saying, my mistress eyes are nothing like the sun, (1). In the Elizabethan era, a common beauty standard were bright eyes, which is why in many Petrarchan sonnets writers describe their mistress eyes as bright as the sun. But that is an exaggeration. Shakespeare, however portrays his mistress true features, though they do not meet society s standards. This reveals that Shakespeare s love, unlike many petrarchan poets , goes beneath his mistress skin. The use of juxtaposition creates the critical tone Likewise, Shakespeare s harsh tone is prevalent in the first quatrain. The speaker intensifies the critical attitude toward his mistress when he ridicules the color and texture of her hair. In the Elizabethan era, a common beauty standard was fair hair, which is why many poets would compare their mistress hair to gold, but Shakespeare compares his mistress hair to black wires. He does this with a harsh tone, not just saying her hair is not fair, but going to the extent to describe her hair in the most offensive way, saying, If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her ... • 10. Genesis 8 How does the Church interpret the Bible or Scripture generally speaking? A partial answer to that question is hermeneutics. Hermeneutics is the science of interpretation and it functions alongside exegesis which is the process of understanding what a particular text meant in its original context. Exegesis would most likely be compared to the hashtag speak in today s society. While some Catholics believe that exegesis is not as important as simplistic, devotional reading, it is quite significant in respect to its relationship to hermeneutics. Proper hermeneutics avoids being subjective and using fundamentalism. Why is hermeneutics important? It is important because it allows one to properly interpret a text avoiding literalism and how such a text fits in today s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As mentioned before, this method uses specific types of criticisms in order to better understand the original meaning of the biblical text which are textual, literary, form and source criticism. To begin, I will apply form criticism to the text. Form criticism essentially asks this question: What is the genre of the text? Genesis chapter one through eleven are known as the Primeval History because they recount the foundational event in the history of Israel before recorded making. As a result these stories cannot be historically verified therefore belonging the genre known as Myth. As so, Genesis 8 is of the Myth genre. A myth always contains a larger theological truth, it provides a way of talking about the meaning of life, and it is a certain truth that escapes scientific and historical documentation. Furthermore, that would make any other chapters in Genesis 1 11 a myth. For example, Genesis 1 which contains one of the creation stories. The creation story is considered a myth because the events cannot be historically proven. There is no legitimate place in the world that accounts for the Garden of Eden as being a real ... Zipcar Porter s five forces applied to Zipcar Threat of new entrants: Potential new entrants include existing car rental firms, companies that currently supply cars to car sharing businesses (such as Volkswagen), and new start up car sharing ventures. As Zipcar is operating in only Boston, there are opportunities for new entrants (with sufficient resources) to establish themselves as dominant car sharing service providers in other cities. This threat to the profitability of Zipcar s planned future expansion activities would pressure Zipcar to expand rapidly in order to remain ahead of the competition. Services are convenient because reserved cars are parked within short walking distance from user locations and public transport stations. In addition, reservations can be made online or over the phone at any time. Zipcar has invested heavily in developing a patented technology platform that can be used only by the company. Each driver is given a unique Zipcar card that can unlock the car door at the specific time for which the subscriber has booked. The driver need only be concerned with unlocking the car and driving. While the car is in use, usage data is transferred (real time) wirelessly to Zipcar s head office. Data is 8 recorded and stored to ensure correct billing. The data collection and billing processes are timely, accurate and hassle free, contributing to the ease and efficiency of Zipcar s business operations. Furthermore, the reduction in manual recording (and therefore the use of paper) has reinforced Zipcar s green image. 9 Recommendations The minimum age for Zipcar drivers could be lowered to 18 years old. Domain 3 (C terminal) is an open faced, anti parallel, three stranded beta sheet with one side covered in 3 alpha helices, this domain interacts with both 1 and 2. In domains 1 and 2, each sheet has 4 parallel and 1 anti parallel strand with alpha helical segments packed against each face and are orientated parallel to one another. PBGD is the third enzyme in the biosynthetic pathway of heme production and when the production of this enzyme is stopped, or in some cases the activity of the enzyme is hindered, this disease may develop. Acute Intermittent Porphyria causes abdominal pain, neurological and psychiatric issues such as hallucinations and also results in an increase in levels of ALA heme precursors and PBG in urine. The p.Gln204Lys mutation in exon 10 is evidenced to directly link to the development of AIP. Analysing enzyme activity with the wild form of the mutation shows the relationship between mutant and AIP. Glu204Lys showed to have 46 В± 0.72% of wild type activity, which did not correlate with the expected 50% decrease in enzyme activity when associated with mutants so, further analysis was undergone. Heat inactivation studies showed that the PBGD is very stable but the wild enzyme lost 30% of its activity post incubation at 65o¬¬¬C for 240 mins. This data relates to the large number of ion pairs, which are built into the enzyme structure. The half life of the mutant affected enzyme was three times less than the wild enzyme type at 100 minutes which relates to AIP as a decrease in enzyme activity can lead to symptoms of AIP. This then evidences that the Gln204lys has a negative effect on proteinstability. The Gln204 residue is on the surface of the central domain and located away from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The novel changes between his personal experiences in Bosnia, personal reflections of his time in the British army, his parents divorce, and heroin addiction. There are many exciting moments like looking through the sights of a Muslim gun trained on a Serb soldier, traveling with a French mercenary, and fleeing from Serbs during battle. In Anthem by Ayn Rand that is how people lived. Everyone in Anthem didn t know anything but the life that they are living. These people don t have anything to miss from the way the world used to be. But some people knew that they wanted more. Equality knew that. The lesson that was taken from this book is that a person is in this type of situation and something tells them that something isn t right and it feels wrong. That person needs to find a way to fix it or get out of the situation that is making them feel uncomfortable. Equality and everyone else in this society did not know anything other than what they were living. But eventually Equality knew that something was wrong and he made an effort to find a way to get out of that situation. Equality wanted people to have more freedom and to be able to make decisions of their own instead of following the path that someone else chose for them. Equality had found a box with the power of the sky, as he called it, and he wanted to share this power with the rest of the world. So when the world council rejected it when he shared it with them, he ran. We knew not where we were going. We knew only that we must run, run to the end of the world, to the end of our days (Rand 75). He ran as fast as he could just so no one tried to take the one thing that gave him hope, which was a new feeling that he didn t quite know he was feeling. Later when he and the Golden One had escaped together, the Golden One had shared with Equality what she saw in him that she didn t see in other people. She told him that his eyes are as a flame and he has hope(Rand 83). She saw what set him apart from other people and it was what drew him to her. It is what she noticed and she loved it. That was the moment where Equality realized that his effort to change the world for the better wouldn t be as hard as he thought because he had someone there with him that would support him. Vampirism is just a polite way Stoker has made to secretly talk about sex since anything that brought a blush to your cheeks was forbidden during the Victorian era. For example, when Lucy first gets bitten while sleepwalking There was undoubtedly something, long and black, bending over the half reclining white figure (Dracula98). Lucy gets bitten by Dracula and she is already talking with three other men, ends up marrying one, this is in no way the ideal Victorian woman. Not only is she not an ideal Victorian woman, but to add on to the list of why she is not The vampiric tradition of blood sucking is symbolic of the exchange of bodily fluids during sex. For Stoker, writing in the sexually repressed Victorian age, vampirism is a convenient metaphor for sex and the closest he could get to writing about sex in a respectable novel (NovelGuide). As we all know she has many exchanges of bodily fluids, not only the blood sucking of Dracula, but in fact blood transfusions from all three men as they vowed to never speak of it since Arthur believes that the transfusion made him and Lucy truly married None of us said a word of the other operations, and none of us ever shall (Dracula 188). These properties are properties that are affected when a solute is added to a solvent. Thus, the amount is important, not the actual type of substance, for the colligative properties. A couple types of this property are the freezing point and boiling point of a substance. (1) The specific property observed in this lab was the freezing point depression caused by the additives. This is the change in the freezing point between a standard solvent and said solvent with added solutes. This changes the entropy of the system, making the properties change somewhat, lowering the freezing point itself with the addition of more solute. Hence, the term freezing point depression . A similar effect leads me to my hypothesis. Boiling point elevation is, like freezing point depression, a colligative property. When cooking something on a stove at higher elevations, salt (a solute) is added to the water in order to enable the water to go to higher temperatures without boiling. The more salt is added, the higher the temperature is able to go. Knowing this, it makes sense that the largest amount of solute will lower the temperature of our chosen solvent, tert butanol, the most. Method As stated, our solvent in this lab will be tert butanol. We start by recording the freezing point of this substance without anything added. Then, we add various ... The blubber is brought to a station off the shore designed to boil the blubber into oil (Hacquebord 2001). All these components of a whale are useful to humans, but by extracting these whales at such a high rate may have consequences for the ecosystem they leave behind (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Baum and Worm 2009). It is important to question the effects mass exploitation has on the environment in order to prevent or predict certain unwanted changes for future removal (Williams et al. 2004;Baum and Worm 2009). Whaling has been studied from various time periods and different places around the world (Hacquebord 2001;Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007;Baum and Worm 2009). In 1977 there was an increase in certain species of lions and seals in British Columbia, while in Alaska there was a decrease of seals and sea lions (Williams et al. 2004;Trites et al. 2007). Because this happened after commercial whaling, many attribute the decline with cascading top down effect (Trites et al. 2007). There are many other factors that make an impact and based on research the removal of the whales did not cause the shift in seals and sea lions (Trites et al. 2007). Rawls theory of justice is a distribution theory that maximizes primary goods for the worst outcome an individual could be in. By primary goods, Rawls informs us that all rational and reasonable individuals will want to have certain fundamental goods that should not be denied anyone. These goods include liberty, autonomy, self respect, and wealth, as I will later discuss in Rawls principle of equal liberty. To provide an argument that will combat utilitarianism, the philosopher uses a revised social contract theory that is to a tune of higher abstraction (Rawls, pg.10) than its predecessors John Locke, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and Immanuel Kant. In my essay I will discuss Rawls original position and veil of ignorance that will lead us to his two principles of justice. The film focuses on the three divisions of the wheat market, which was rare at the time because most films during the early twentieth century focused on people. The first division showcases the farmers who grow the wheat. The next division portrays the Wheat King, a wealthy businessman who controls the wheat market. The last division follows the bakery, the place that distributes the wheat, and the consumers who purchase the bread that is made from the wheat. The filmhas a variety of elements within the shots of the film. The depth of field is one of the elements that can be viewed in Corner in Wheat. One of the last shots in the film is the farmersprinkling wheat on the field. This shot shows how the camera moves from background to the front ground, which presents deep space. The farmer is shown walking from a distance sprinkling the wheat, eventually, as he continues walking he moves closer to the camera as he goes about his business. The depth of the field of the farmer s field is different than the depth of field in the grain elevator. D.W. Britain therefore always had a steady source of raw materials Britain would turn raw materials into finished products that it would ship back to India and sell to Indians. Prices for goods were low and Indians liked that, but also Britain had a steady source of income. The most useful Indian industry for Britain was its cotton industry; Britain often used Indian cotton for clothing. India made for a cheap way to assemble (cheap labor) and an easy way to get business. For Britain, there was barely a negative side to imperializing in India. British citizen did not change the way they went about their day at all. Prices of goods dropped which, of course made life easy, but nobody lost sleep over the colonization. Britain s ... Louisa May Alcott My Contraband Summary Louisa May Alcott s My Contraband and Its Ethical Implications As stated by intellectual Joseph Wong, influence is our inner ability to lift people up to our perspectives (Young Ch. 6). Throughout history, numerous writers have utilized their ability to impact their readers to encourage their audience to follow the author s principles and beliefs. Louisa May Alcott, born in Pennsylvania in 1832, was the type of writer to use her power to influence her lectors views on the topics and issues that she was passionate about. Alcott s father, Amos Bronson Alcott, was a writer, lecturer, and educator, and her mother, Abba May, was a strong willed and independent woman and bright educator. Her brilliant parents helped Alcott grow to be an intellectual, an independent female, and, as mentioned by Clark Moreland in one of his lectures, ...a dark headed, volatile, and energetic child ( Lecture 3.4... ). After her parents fell into deep debt, Alcott began to work to support her family. She served as a seamstress, teacher, and, of course, a writer. As an open minded individual, Alcott was an advocate of many causes and policies, and, through her compositions, she shared her beliefs to guide her readers towards integrating her ideals into their lives. For instance, in 1863, Alcott released her work My Contraband, first titled The Brothers. The piece featured a Civil War nurse, Faith Dane, in the Union side who was in charge of caring for a captured, dying Confederate captain and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their practices are not entirely based on objective governmental values; instead, the members of Congress wheel and deal, trading favors with each others in the government. This lack of nobility is found within William Shakespeare s play Tragedy of Othello, which follows the life of Othello, a Venetian Moor that has earned his place in society through his acts of valor in battle. Othello wins the love of Desdemona, who is the daughter of a Venetian elite and is also lusted after by a nobleman named Roderigo. Roderigo follows them around throughout the play and tries to use Othello s inner circle to gain her love. He is a nobleman who has a lot of power within their society. Although Roderigo is viewed by himself and others as noble in Aristotelian Society, his attempts to buy Desdemona s love and his lack of moral conscience demonstrate that his birth into nobility does not make him an honorable person, shown through his insecurities and regrettable tone as he dies. Roderigo uses his wealth to try and control Iago and to buy Desdemona s love in order to hide his own insecurities. This is shown when Roderigo confronts Iago about the money he has been giving him to try and pay for Desdemona s love but it fails. Iago intends to keep extorting Roderigo for his money, even though Roderigo says it belongs to Iago, as if the strings were thine . The game launched for iOS on November 11th, 2016 and on Android on August 31st, 2017. The app is available for download on all current iOS and Android devices (later than Android 5.0). The game also ties into the recently released feature film The Angry Birds Movie (2016) and its tie in television series, Blues. The Bad Piggies want to disrupt the eternal party of the Hatchlings via some well placed petty theft for mysterious, spiteful reasons as yet unknown. This injustice is resolved by you clearing levels to return the Hatchling s stuff and things to their rightful owners. You must clear your way through an enormous series of challenge maps across many worlds, stretching to more than 1000 levels. There are many different objectives for each map. These range from simply removing all the pigs from play to placing different tiles together to reach a set number of combos. The main game differs quite a bit from Candy Crush, however. There are many themes that present themselves in cloud atlas but the one that appealed to me most was greed. Mitchell did a very good job in showing greed in each of the chapters in a variety of different ways whether it was a minimal or large amount. In addition, the author also related both the future and the past to the current time to show what is arguably the worst characteristic one can have. The thought process behind the practice of first degree price discrimination is that the firm has enough accurate information about the consumer, and that products can be sold each time for the maximum amount that the consumer is willing to pay. The two more common examples of first degree price discrimination is called price skimming and all or none offers . Skimming refers to the demand function, as firms take the top of the demand of a given good to maximize profits on the sale. This, of course, requires that the firm know the actual demand for the good that it produces. The firm must divide its customers into distinct, independent groups based upon their respective demands for the good. The firm wants to first sell to the group who will pay the highest price for the new product. It then reduces the cost slightly and sells to another group with only a slightly less demand for the good. This process is copied on numerous occasions until the marginal revenue drops to equal marginal cost. American Security and Police Modeled After The English As we are now living in a century where everything is more organized, when a crime is committed, the first thing that comes to our minds is police officers. Due to the fact that we are surrounded by thousands of police departments, we no longer give them the right attention they deserve; rather we take them for granted. Well before it was nothing compare to now, it took many years for England to develop a security system, which later on America copied some of the fundamental techniques. England helped America guide the policing system to be more effective. Such as something so basic as the title Sheriffs come from the word shire reeves, which is from England (The History of Policing, 2014, p.3). English plays an extremely essential role in American policing. America adopted the English common law; the high importance placed on individual privileges, the court structure, and numerous methods of punishment, alongside with local authority of law enforcement agencies. This adapting s contributed three stable qualities to American policing. The first one was tradition of restricted policepower. Second one was tradition of law enforcement agencies. Lastly extremely distributed, and divided system of law enforcement. After the development of PV cells in the 1940s, little progress was made for the next few years because of its expensive cost. However, it was used in the space industry in the 1950s and 60s. Experiments with Solar Power Plants: The Mojave Desert is an ideal place for solar power plants since it is so insolated and has more sunlight than most areas of the United States. The Solar Energy Generating Systems were nine trough power plants built in 1980s converting sunlight into electricity. Combined, they produced 354 MW of power, enough to support 500,000 people and making it a successful project. (Wikipedia, 2007, para. 1). The Solar Energy Technology Program (SETP) set up solar initiatives in hopes of replacing fossil ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Questions On The Midterm Exam Ivana Ezeude ANTH 312 7 October 2016 Midterm Exam Part 1: #1 Through various sources from the past, it was relatively easy to determine the overall perception towards Africans that dominated much of the 19th and 20th centuries. During these times, Africans were seen as primitive and savage. They were inferior and less evolved in comparison tot heir Western counterparts. For the most part, they believed that Africans had made little, if any, progress since some humans left the continent and established themselves in other parts of the world. While this viewpoint may seem ludicrous to most modern people, Westerners actually based their claims on various theories. A major theory used to promulgate this viewpoint was the concept of Social Darwinism. This theory holds that human beings, like other organisms, ares subject to the concepts natural selection and survival of the fittest (kiem article). Social Darwinism was readily employed as justifications to why Africans were inferior, and had slipped behind in the race towards progress (connah 1). They had stopped developing a long time ago, and, as a result, continued to live in savagery. Africawas the past, and the Western worldwas the present and future. Research at the time did little to abate African stereotypes. Research mainly served the purpose of studying human evolution rather than the place...[because it is] merely a backdrop to studies pertaining to how Western culture has managed to establish itself as superior ...
