The Media s Influence On The Public s Perceptions Of...
With continued saturation of media channels in today s world, it s no wonder that our personal ideals
are often affected by the portrayals depicted on television. In this paper I will examine how the media,
in particular reality television (RTV), often provides a simplistic and stereotypical ideal of wealth and
well being. I intend to demonstrate that the political ideologies reinforced by the images created in
reality TV can be damaging and misleading to the public perception, often running counter to the
statistical reality. Through a review of specific programs and research, I will establish that these shows
are subconsciously influencing the public s perceptions of wealth and happiness.

By looking at a number of examples including the reality TV shows The Shahs of Sunset and Extreme
Makeover: Home Edition, I seek to uncover what ideologies and issues are really at play behind the
slick television productions. Since the proliferation of cable television and subsequent technological
advances including colour, satellite, digital, Smart, and now even 3D TV, television has become a
dominant force in our lifestyles. It has physically entrenched itself in our homes and psychologically
engrained itself in our minds. As such, television has become an important tool for integrating
individuals into the social order, celebrating dominate values, and offering models of thought and
behaviour for imitations (Winslow p. 268). Television is the medium or tool, but the programming or
shows represents the pervasive messaging. The latest genre of TV shows to rise to popularity is that of
the ironically named reality TV, which actually bears little resemble to real life. These reality shows
pretend to depict the everyday life of ordinary people, but are often carefully scripted and manipulated
versions of the truth, serving to reinforce social stereotypes and political ideologies. Reality television
(RTV) is a specific culmination of this long history, taking the powers of transformation to a new level
by embedding them in everyday life (Winslow 268). This can become a dangerous tool for
highlighting and glamorizing certain aspects of

7 Habits Of Highly Effective Teens Essay
Throughout Sean Covey s Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, I found myself questioning what I
could do to integrate his habits into my life. Would working with my enemies benefit me, as it did the
teens in Covey s Habit 4 chapter? Would this be a better essay had I started a week earlier and
prioritized like Habit 3 told me to? With these questions and others in mind, I ventured through Covey
s novel in constant fear that I would realize that I was doing yet another thing wrong. This fear was
well deserved, as half of the book caused me to think about my own procrastination, inability to work
with others, and win lose attitude. The fact of the matter is, I have been told these things before;

Huffington utilized this skill in college, where her heavy Grecian accent labeled her as an outsider on
her school s debate team. Despite this obstacle, Huffington set a goal to overcome her situation, and
become inherently successful. Later on in her life, when Huffington was campaigning for her husband
s unsuccessful senatorial bid, she created a goal to raise money and support for the campaign. Not
only did Huffington s collections eclipse her original goal, but she learned of the rising importance of
online media, and the influence it has on the current generation. Her aim turned towards this new
superpower in the hopes of creating a platform in which many voices may be heard. Huffington
persevered, using the same skills taught in Covey s novel, despite the rising opposition. Before we

the portion about habit two, he expresses, Never assume that the herd must know where they are

goals to succeed. As one may note, success has many variations and definitions, and while Huffington
is extremely successful, she has also suffered an injury that was an alarming wake up call. Once again,
though, Huffington solved this problem by advocating yet another of Covey s habits: habit seven,

The Influence Of Classism
In the novel Pride and Prejudice the author, Jane Austen, employs sarcasm coupled with irony and
characterization in a tantalizing expose that brings to light the unreasonable societal expectations and
behaviors of the 19th century and the influence of classism in the search for matrimony. Austen uses
an intriguing intertwining of the three stand out elements in her novel. Characterization is mixed with
implicit doses of irony and sarcasm to accurately portray different characters as representations of
aspects in society during the 19th century. The antagonist to Elizabeth is presented in chapter 8, with
the character Miss Bingley. While Elizabeth takes societal standards lightly, Miss Bingley does not.
Miss Bingley believes a woman must have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Classism was a rampant part of society during the time period, and its injustices prevailed despite the
rotten practices it induced. Classism influenced heavily into the search for matrimony, and regardless
of Elizabeth s beliefs about marrying for love rather than money, when she eventually found love
interest those around her tried to intimidate her out of marrying Mr. Darcy. The main culprit was Lady
Catherine, Darcy s upper class aunt. Lady Catherine represents everything bad about the influence
classism has on the upper class citizens. Lady Catherine is singularly worried about maintaining a
spotless reputation and converses with Elizabeth saying You have no regard, then, for the honor and
credit of my nephew! Unfeeling, selfish girl! Do you not consider that a connection with you must
disgrace him in the eyes of everybody?...You are then resolved to have him? as to accuse her of being
greedy for ignoring the detrimental effects marrying Darcy would have on his reputation, and hers.
This vain regard for her own welfare points to exactly what Jane Austen is trying to expose, the blatant
disregard for lower classes, or even anybody within a lower class. She purposefully characterizes
Lady Catherine as the epitome of snobbish upper class attitudes. The skillful combination of these
various literary techniques come together perfectly in Jane Austen s expose of 19th century society.
She criticizes the attitudes and behaviors of that era with her satirical language and calculated
characterizations. The reader begins to grasp the social injustices of classism and the mistreatments
carried out by the individuals influenced into

Benjamin Franklin, the Father of Foreign Diplomacy Essay
Some people will argue that the true birth of United States of America started with George Washington
leading the Continental Army against Great Britain s royal army in pursuit of freedom from foreign
dictatorship; seizing the opportunity to create and control their own government in the manner in
which they sought fit. One of the major forces in this battle for freedom was the diplomatic travels of
Benjamin Franklin. His travels to England and France set the foundation for the dealings in foreign
diplomacy that are still in effect today. Without Benjamin Franklin s wisdom, knowledge and courage
to address Kings and Parliament on the behalf of the colonies, the American government, as we know
it would not exist.
Benjamin was born ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Upon his return to the colonies he was elected as the unofficial ambassador to England, and this
became a duty that he carried out for many years to come.
Over the next decade, hostilities grew between the colonies and England. Benjamin Franklin spent his
time as a delegate between the two lands and argued many of the colonies grievances toward Britain s
mistreatment. In 1765 at the age of 59, Franklin addressed Parliament regarding the Quartering Bill,
which allowed forceful housing of British soldiers in the homes of the Americans. He argued on
behalf of the colonies and Parliament amended the bill making the act illegal. During this same year,
Parliament passed the Stamp Act as a way of acquiring more money from the colonies. This is where
many of Benjamin Franklin s diplomatic duties began.
Franklin was called to testify in front of Parliment,
A questioner asked: Considering the resolutions of Parliament as to the right, do you think, if the
stamp act is repealed, that the North Americans will be satisfied?
Franklin responded: I think the resolutions of right will gibe them very little concern, if they are never
attempted to be carried into practice.
A adversary asked: If the stamp act should be repealed, would it induce the assemblies of America to
acknowledge the rights of Parliament to tax them, and would they erase their resolutions [of

Animal Farm Conclusion
This is a story about a group of animals that live on Manor Farm, a farm in the British countryside that
is under the operation of Mr. Jones, a poor drunkard. Old Major, a well respected pig, calls all of the
animals to a meeting to share his vision of a farm free of humans, where the animals reap what they
sow. This vision inspires all the animals and they wait the day for a rebellion. After Old Major passes
away, the rebellion begins when Mr. Jones forgets to feed the animals. The animals, led by the pigs,
chase away all of the humans from the farm, renaming it Animal Farm. Two pigs named Snowball and
Napoleon emerge as leaders, and for a while life on the farm is good. Rules are written on the barn for
everyone to follow and a rhythm of work and recreation settles on the farm. The animals ... Show

but it gets destroyed. Napoleon blames Snowball for this act of vandalism and vows that the animals
on Animal Farm will build it again. Soon, Napoleon reaches out to humans outside of the farm and
begins making business deals for more supplies. The attempt to rebuild the windmill is led by the
efforts of Boxer, an old workhorse nearing retirement age. Eventually, the windmill is completed, but
then gets blown up during an attack by neighboring men. Over time, the rules on the barn begin to
change to fit the pigs new lifestyle until only one rule remains: All animals are equal, but some
animals are more equal than others. In the end, Napoleon invites neighboring farmers to visit the farm
and because the pigs have picked up on the mannerisms of humans, the animals cannot tell the

Company s Internal And External Analysis
Consulting Letter
Dear Mr. Jefferies, After considering the company s internal and external analysis, it is clear that
Abercrombie and Fitch need to implement a new strategy for future success. Considering consumer
trends, and the company s current outlook, changes need to be made. The strategies I recommend are
to market the company as a more receptive brand in the United States as well as looking to penetrate
international markets while closing down underperforming US stores. With consumer trends of online
shopping being on the rise, Abercrombie and Fitch can look to close down those stores who are not
meeting sales quotas. Your firm is already considered one of the first movers in the online sphere, but

Considering that international expansion incurs lots of capital costs, it is a strategy that you should
slowly implement and keep taking note on the returns of investment. The benefits the company will
receive include sustainable profit growth, increase market penetration and improvement of your brand
s reputation.
Key Issues Abercrombie and Fitch Co. is a men and women s clothing company which is built on the
philosophy of not trying to be all things of all people, meaning, not everyone is able to identify
themselves and relate to the brand. Their current CEO, Mike Jefferies, is faced with the issue to decide
whether the firm should expand its direct to consumer and international sales. By doing so, he would
be looking to close down domestic stores in the United States. This issue have appeared due to the
company missing Wall Street s estimates in 2011, thus experiencing a drop in shares. Although sales
have increased domestically, the company had to use price discounts in order to drive those sales, thus
lower gross profit, and creating an unsustainable strategy for the future. As a result, he ponders
whether to close down the lower yielding domestic stores and concentrating on online and
international expansion.

The Unified Science Center At Stockton For My Project
I decided to choose the Unified Science Center at Stockton for my project because it is easily
accessible to me, it is fairly new and as a business major student, I found the building to be very
impressive. We business majors don t have a place to hang out or a quiet place to talk to people in our
major. I normally just see people in the library or in the hallway and if we have to do schoolwork we
just go to a computer lab. However, the Science and Math majors have a building full of labs and
classrooms. In my opinion I felt like Stockton was trying to one up the Arts building with another new
building. The two buildings are similar in the way they both function. The Art building is a good place
for the Art majors to get creative for their assignments and while these students are surrounded by
artwork they could feel more of an impact from the atmosphere. The Science Center is a good place to
apply what the Science students have learned in class and apply it in a laboratory.
Stockton University built this building to attract more science students. I think EYP did a great job
designing the building. If you never entered the building before, you can just look at it from the
outside and just tell that it is a building designed for Science majors. The building itself does not have
many classrooms, but instead it has a lot of laboratories with state of the art equipment.
On the inside of the building it has a piece of artwork called the wave hanging from the second floor

Argument On Bilingualism
Bilinguals in America experience unfair treatment and are looked at differently if English is not their
native language. The subject of bilingualism is not a topic many are educated on. Uneducated English
speakers use their dominance and popularity of their language to treat Spanish speakers like their
language and culture does not belong in our country. Martin Espada and Richard Rodriguez speak of
bilingualism in their well published essays, and they write about the struggles that American citizens
face when they are bilingual in Spanish and English. This essay will clearly show each writer s
definition and arguments on bilingualism and my argument on the topic. In The New Bathroom Policy
at English High School, Martin Espada reveals his definition of bilingualism. Through Espadas stories
and arguments, he states that bilingualism means having a sense of identity and culture with the
languages that you speak. He supports his idea of bilingualism by telling his audience that people who
don t speak English want to keep their language, and everything that comes with it, alive. Espada
states, What they want to do is also retain their own language, culture, and identity (165 167). Espada
values his concept and belief of bilingualism and he helps others by writing about it because he knows
bilingual speakers face discrimination and harassment every day. When Espada was being mistreated
by an English speaker on the street, he stood up for himself and said, He can

The Education System Of Pakistan
The education system in Pakistan focuses mainly on primary education however you find that a large
number of children ages 5 9 are not attending schools and it would appear that primary system needs
to enlarge if universal primary enrolment is to be achieved (Lynd, 2007). In Pakistan, there were 14
million girls studying in basic education in 2005, compared to 18.3 million boys. In other words, there
were over 4 million more boys than girls in basic education. This is still an issue in Pakistan where
there are more number of boys in education than girls. The disparity in favour of boys was prevalent at
all levels of basic education, with the exception of the higher secondary level where the number of
girls was very close to equal to the number of boys, which indicates that Pakistan displays a disparity
in favour of girls at this stage of education. This implies that many more boys than girls discontinued
their education after secondary school with the result that their numbers matched those of the girls in
the final level.
Those that can afford to pay to go school will be able to attend better and improved education but
those in rural areas are at disadvantage as they cannot afford to let their children go to school.
Governments allow primary education to be free for all as they believe every child should be educated
however the costs for uniform, stationary, lunch and funds makes it difficult for poorer families to
actually let their children go to school. Basic

Essay about Thermal and Tidal Ocean Energy
The Oncoming Age of Ocean Energy: Thermal and Tidal
With oil being depleted and people crying out in horror at the prices of energy society needs a new
source of energy, the ocean. The ocean provides so much energy it can power up the world s
consumption of oil by ten fold by one day s worth of storing. Currently there are two ways that are in
practice: tidal and ocean thermal. But these two practices are in their infant stages and are in need of
much funding. Isn t the initial cost of sustaining such a project worth the bearing if one is learning that
their source of energy is becoming bankrupt?

Lotteries Cheat, Corrupt The People
In Lotteries Cheat, Corrupt The People George F. Will argues that lotteries have done nothing but
corrupt and cheat the people of this country. Will compares gambling to a game of jai alai saying it is a
game for the entertainment of gamblers and the benefit of, among others, the state treasury. However,
I disagree completely and truly believe that lotteries do much than that. Lotteries give personal
enjoyment to those who are gambling and hope to those who are hopeless. Along with the benefits it
brings to the individuals who participate, the government also profits by gaining money that they can
than spend on other valuable practices.
The majority of gamblers do not gamble for the money; they ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Will says Gamblers are drawn disproportionately from minority and poor populations that can ill
afford to gamble, that are especially susceptible to the lure of gambling... Minority s and people with
lower income see gambling as a chance of hope that could possibly turn their lives around; especially
a person who unfortunately has to work a minimum or sub minimum wage job to support their family.
From the moment the ticket is purchased to the date they announce the lucky numbers; hope of a life
changing event is instilled in the ticket holders mind. Along with the thought of hope that lotteries
bring to the table; they also provide very important funding to their communities. People who are
uneducated about the lottery look down upon it. Mainly people believe it is nothing but a scam along
with an addictive way rush that can drain away all of the players money. Apart from personal
enjoyment and hope, lotteries give back and support their communities. Nation wide states need the
support of its people before creating a lottery. California s State Lottery was erected due to the
promises of giving back and supporting statewide education. California recently passed a bill stating
that eighty seven percent of sales generated through the lottery will go back to the public through
prizes and contributions to education leaving the rest to government expenses. Lotteries are not
brought to states for the purposes of cheating and corrupting the people; they are intact to

Closing The Real Estate Transaction
Closing the Real Estate Transaction
Closing is the final step required to complete a real estate transaction. Depending on the location and
type of property certain guidelines or requirements may apply, however, there are many common steps
within the process. This paper will present the following terms and their relation to closing: mortgage,
escrow, the preliminary report and inspection. Depending on the state guidelines, a closing can happen
at a title company with an escrow officer or at an attorney s office. Once a seller has officially
accepted an offer they will agree on a closing date with the buyer. At the time of closing, property
ownership is transferred to the buyer.
What does a Mortgage Mean?
Mortgage lending is a major sector with the United States financial market today. The modern
mortgage has only been around since the 1930s, but the idea of a mortgage has been around for a lot
longer. (History of Mortgages, 2016) The literal meaning of the word mortgage has Latin roots: mort
or death and gage or pledge. Translated it supports the idea that the pledge died once the loan was
repaid, and also the idea that the property was dead (or forfeit) if the loan wasn t repaid. (History of
Mortgages, 2016) A mortgage is an agreement for the terms of your home loan, technically not the
home loan itself. Real estate transactions require written documentation and this is the purpose of a
mortgage.

Barack Obama: Writer in Chief President Barack Obama is know for remarkable events such as

about what else Obama has done. He is also an author who has written around twenty books including
a memoir about his early life leading up to his life in law school, and a children s book dedicated to
his daughters. His most famous book Dreams From My Father, a memoir about his early life leading
up to law school, is a prime example of what influenced him to write. There were many things that

Analysis Of The Novel Perfume Help Grenouille
Grenouille is a character born destined to be a murderer, but he alone can t accomplish it. Süskind
offers him a plethora of characters that can help him in his journey to becoming a master murderer and
perfume maker. The use of minor characters in the novel Perfume help Grenouille grow and develop
into a murderer, like a tick, he leeches off others and uses them for personal growth. Grenouille
absorbs the traits of his host, using them to keep him alive, they assist him in fitting into society, no
longer making him a noticeable monster and they are what motivates him to complete his goals.

like the tick that abandons its host when it takes all it can, Grenouille leaves his host, Madame

There they put her in a ward populated with hundreds of the mortally ill, the same ward in which her
husband had died, laid her in a bed shared with total strangers, pressing body upon body with five
other women, and for three long weeks let her die in public view. (Süskind, 13) Süskind s minor
characters in Perfume assist Grenouille in his knowledge of creating perfume and fitting into society,
allowing him to develop into his murderous role. Baldini takes Grenouille under his wing and teaches
him the way of making perfumes But Grenouille, too, profited from the disciplined procedures Baldini

his hosts. He here, can take knowledge that Baldini offers to him and uses it for his own personal

Disruption Of Life In America Essay
Why is disruption of life different in America in World war II different from the disruption of life in
World war II in Japan?

The culture during world war 2 are how the disruption of life in America, and also disruption of goods

disruption of life through the transition from peace to building the military for war. Like women

In the conventional fantasy Japan slyly undermined peaceful diplomacy and forced the American
people into a war they did not want, whose government had employed every means to avoid.
(Atwood, 2010)
The disruption of life for my elder was that the transition of politics and peacetime to wartime. Instead
of the politicians worrying about peace and trying to not go to war they ignored most policy trying to
go to war to prevent any other conflicts and to stop the spread of communism and imperialism and
instead spread democracy. For example, Throughout the United States during the war years, the force
of Franklin Roosevelt s personality overrode all other concerns in presidential politics, and it displaced

Temporary Appropriation Paper
Since the 60s a vast literature (Jacobs, 1961; Harvey, 1973; Mitchell, 2003; Sennett, 2006) has
discussed the physical attributes of built environment for the purpose of creating lively and inclusive
public spaces through the temporary appropriation. Cities are in a constant process of transformation
and the way in which they are designed and re designed might affect the rationale use of public spaces
and its temporary appropriation. The temporary appropriation is defined here as the act in which
people use public spaces to carry out individual or collective activities other than the purpose that the
space was originally designed for (Fonseca Rodriguez, 2015a). Table 1 summarises the relevant

Management Functions And Functions Of Management
Essay
Management is viewed as a critical part in any business or corporate commercial enterprises. Group
assignments provide a useful platform for understanding the management functions that consist of
planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (POLC). I totally do agree with this statement.
Management of groups is actually the key to all of these P O L C functions. Any management can
accomplish and succeed objectives through the organizing execution of these four functions
(123helpme.com, 2015). Management involves coordinating and controlling a gathering of one or
more individuals or elements with the end goal of planning and blending them towards finishing

If it is done efficiently, one can reduce much the necessary effort and time of achieving the goal. Plans
are similar to maps. When a plan is followed, one possibly can always observe how much one has
progressed towards the goal and what s left to reach the destination. Also a person should know where
they stand. This helps in making good decisions. Another important thing I grasped from the group
work was the 80/20 rule. It indicates that 80 percent of one s respective outcomes originate from 20
percent of one s respective inputs. The second management function is organizing. Organizing means
relationship between persons, work and resources used to achieve the common goals. The principle
purpose connected with being organized is to establish successful lines connected with responsibility
along with authority designed. Leading is the third management function. Leading involves the actual
social as well as informal types of influence that can be used to be able to inspire activity taken by
others. If managers are competent leaders, their subordinates are going to be enthusiastic in relation to
exerting effort to get organizational goals. A lot of contributions have been made understanding this
specific function of management. Controlling is the fourth and the final of the management functions.
It involves building standards to help measure functionality, measuring actual performance, comparing
performance and taking

Evaluating the Limitations of Market Research
Explain Limitations of Market Research
Part of planning market research is outlining the flaws and limitations of the research itself. Any
weaknesses in the research must be identified so they can be improved on. There are a number of
limitations that may affect the results found by market research.
Reliability is vital when trying to find out information about large target populations. To avoid poor
reliability, the sample chosen to participate in the research should be representative of the whole target
population. The correct target sample must be established so that reliability is not a limitation of the
research.
To improve poor reliability due to target sample, a list of the target population could be created and

However, they must be careful in selecting the right sample for certain questions. If the Vodafone
market research team would like to know what customers opinions are regarding Vodafone s 3G
Internet service, and they would need to carefully select a representative sample of people who have
3G Internet on their phones. It can be assumed that Vodafone has the ability to generate a list of all
users who have Internet usage through their network so choosing a sample from the target population
should cause no difficulty. Using a computer, a sample size can be derived from random selection or
through systematically selecting proportional numbers of people from different countries in which
Vodafone operates.
In order to increase reliability by using a large sample size could mean sacrificing their ability to gain
quantitative data. Trying to generate the wrong type of results could mean gaining too much or too
little information to gain a real understanding of what people think of the internet services provided to
them. Analysing and interpreting data from such a large sample could prove difficult if results were
qualitative. Whether being analysed by humans or by computers counting commonly found words,
this would be a lengthy process. It could be recommended that Vodafone conducted their research

The Tuna Industry And Its Effects On The Oceanic Ecosystem
This essay will focus on the bluefin tuna industry in Japan, a country which consumes the majority of
the global catch. The industry is one driven by the sudden increase in demand for sushi, a Japanese
haute food which is now consumed globally. It will also illustrate the uniqueness and important role
which the bluefin tuna plays in aquatic ecosystems throughout the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian
Oceans. Lastly, the issues of globalization and lack of market regulation will be examined as a cause
for the collapse in Atlantic bluefin fisheries. The tuna industry in Japan is having negative
environmental impacts on the oceanic ecosystem.
The Arguments
Despite the unparalleled popularity of bluefin tuna in today s sushi industry, it has not always been
this way. Sushi, prior to the mid twentieth was a luxury food eaten exclusively during special
occasions, and Japanese chefs never used to serve bluefin tuna in sushi bars (Kurokura, Takagi, Sakai,
Yagi, 2012). The tuna had too strong of a taste for the Japanese palette who preferred milder species of
fish, however this all changed post WWII. Japan underwent a rapid transformation from a war torn
state into a global economic power in a matter of decades. By 1980, Japan had become the second
largest economy in the world, following only USA (Dicken, 2011). The proliferation of the middle and
upper class in Japan equated in a greater demand for sushi in everyday diet. The 1970 s marked a new
epoch in sushi culture as the quest for

Standardized Tests
Standardized tests are annoying little things that students in schools all across the nation have to take
every year. Though, if all the facts are taken into consideration, they do not really seem worth it, do
they? Many people speculate whether or not they are actually measuring a student s intelligence or
anything like that. It seems that students do not necessarily have to learn the material, only memorize
it for a short period of time. The question has to be raised, though what exactly qualifies a test to be a
standardized test? Well, as described by The Glossary of Education Reform, there are two main things
that make a test standardized. The first being that the test ...requires all test takers to answer the same
questions, or ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When students think about tests, their thoughts tend to move more towards the idea of how am I going
to memorize all of this in one week, I know this from experience. Why is this the way that students
treat such important tests? I ask myself that question just about every time I think about taking an end
of course test, SAT, ACT, or anything like that. All across the nation, students have also been
introduced to a thing called common core, which has, for some reason, been made even more difficult
than the previous set standards. This seems to be no solution to the problem, but will more than likely
only worsen the ditch that we have gotten ourselves into, in terms of education. Before focusing on
making school more challenging for students and teachers, would not it make more sense for the
problem of students not actually learning the content of the course to be fixed first? With more
challenging tests, comes more confused students who are willing to do anything just to pass; including
flushing their education down the toilet. They do this by only storing the information in their short
term memory rather than actually learning the content of the class, but it s not always their faults,
either. The way the school system is set up, students are not taught how to actually learn the material
or use it in real life. A student s only goal is making good grades on the tests and surviving the class.
This memorizing business can hurt students later on in life, as well. These kids get used to taking the
easy way out, and will never learn the deeper thinking skills that they need to succeed in the world
today. The focus on memorization, fueled by standardized testing, has obstructed learning, according
to Linda Darling Hammond of Stanford University, who argues that students have been losing or
squandering most of the information they acquire in school. (Towler.) Even a

Janet s Case For Life Insurance
Janet applied for life insurance on February 10, 2003. The amount her policy would pay out upon her
death would be $250,000. On September 1, 2005 Janet was sadly murdered which caused the life
insurance company to pay out the beneficiary who in our case is Janet s husband, Craig. Although the
contract should have been paid out in full upon Janet s death, the insurance company is refusing to pay
out the policy. When Janet applied for life insurance in 2003 she when through an extensive
application form which is typical for all life insurance contracts. On this form she was asked about her
health specifically if she had been operated on or been hospitalized in the last ten years. Along with
that and many other things Janet was asked if she had any lung disorders. She replied to both of these
questions with no when in fact she had been in the hospital several times in the last ten years and had a
lung disorder. She suffers from recurrent chest pains and abdominal pains. She has also been
diagnosed with pulmonary embolism. For these two reason and more the life insurance company is
refusing to payout the policy to Craig.
A normal case of life insurance is paid out upon the death of the person insured but in this
circumstance the payment is being withheld. The main legal issue in this case is can the life insurance
company withhold payment of the insured amount. On that another hand does Craig, the beneficiary

daily function. Demand and supply will soon be at a crossroad, as increasing population creates
increases in pollution, waste water and global warming (Baker, 2007). This paper will seek to examine
the effects of global warming on Canada s freshwater system, the effects of pollution and will evaluate

The western prairies provinces (WPP) have an area of two million km2, these regions are the main
agricultural and food producing regions in all of Canada (Schindler, 2006). As global warming
increases, more water will be used for irrigation for crops. Every year, 2.5 km3 of water is used for
irrigation on 1 million acres of land. The water comes from reservoirs and lakes that trap snowmelt
run off from the Rocky Mountains, however only twenty percent of this water is returned to the rivers.
The WPP temperatures have increased by 4 degrees since 1970 (Schindler, 2006. Most of the rural

Equity ratio debt ratio
Equity ratio and debt ratio are both designing for capital structure and they are negatively related with
each other. The cost of equity is higher than the cost of debt, but shareholders will not require
companies to repay them dividends and principals any time. However, companies must pay the debt
holders interests and principals each year. And increasing leverage ratio will result in increasing the
return to shareholders, yet at the same time, it will increase the repayment commitments and then raise
the risk to company and shareholders.
CML s equity ratio increased to 0.4 and correspondingly debt ratio decreased to 0.15 from 2001 to
2005. Generally it is a good trend, even though there has been a decrease in equity ratio in 2005 from
0.45 to 0.40 and an increase in debt ratio from 2004 to 2005, it may be due to the acquisition from US

still in good condition.

How Revolutions Within Europe Over A 500 Year Period
In his book, Charles Tilly seeks to determine the circumstances surrounding revolutions within Europe
over a 500 year period. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis that
revolutions stem from the state s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two parts,
each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary outcome.
A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts
forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot
coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political parties
that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a substantial
amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without support from the
citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the rulers must be either
unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation when their military
power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution a realist edge.
Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would be
considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group
receiving the defectors. In addition, either the group coming forward can

Empathy In Homeless In Black Men And Public Space
In Homeless , Quindlen shows empathy toward homeless people. For example, throughout the story,
Quindlen brings forth points pertaining to how having a home is everything (193). Homeless people
don t experience little things that come with having a home such as having walls and painting them a
color of their own choosing (193). On the other hand, in Black Men Public Space , Staples makes the
reader empathize with him and blacks in general and makes the reader see his perspective. Staples
emphasizes his concern for being considered a threat in public spaces through the use of explicit
language. Staples starts off by saying, My first victim was a woman (197). Using the word victim , he
expresses explicit language and stresses his point of view. Additionally, using the word victim
provides the reader with a different perspective on how the person who is being perceived as being a
threat feels.
The outdoors, which is a public space, is not comforting. As Quindlen says, Home is where the heart
is ; it is a place of certainty, stability, predictability, [and] privacy (193). Home is a private space
surrounded by walls, making people who reside there feel secure. In contrast to Staples, Quindlen uses
implicit language because it is implied that on the other hand, living in a public space can be
threatening because certain public spaces are considered unsafe. Black people in the streets can be
perceived as being one of the many threats, like Staples was. Ironically,

Inside Composing Essay
Composing is something that goes to some as an ability, yet others as a burden. It s only a unique little
something where you either have it, or you don t. Inside composing, one can express their sentiments
and feelings through mind blowing subtle elements. The pursuer can grasp the subtle elements inside a
story, to where it practically feels as though they are living it themselves. Composing can be an
unwinding strategy for around, a method for communicating feelings for others, or just essentially
charming. Is it workable for one to improve as an essayist inside a semester? Really, as I would see it
is. For as far back as fourteen weeks I have been in a structure class that has tested my written work

particular parts of my piece, be that as it may, regardless I battle with a couple others. Significantly, I
learned composition aptitudes and methods and connected them to my papers. I found new
methodologies and leaps forward that have permitted me to moderate my composition dawdling. In
any case, I am as yet figuring out how to compose and trust that I generally will. I for one appreciate
composing. It is a path for me to escape from the universe of reality, if even just for a minute. It is a
technique for me to express my sentiments or feelings towards a particular subject, furthermore is
calming to a specific degree. I want to compose an account article over an exploration or convincing
exposition. An account exposition is less requesting for me to make in light out of the way that I can
basically sit down and start composing on a clear screen. I don t need to take notes from an online

Basic indexes of technology: The most important indexes in technology are productivity, reliability,
and economy of operation. The productivity denotes the quantity of goods produced, processed, or
shipped per unit time. The reliability of technology is characterized by the capacity to produce
itemized quantity of goods without interruption. As the name suggest economy of the operation is
determined by the consumption of materials, power and by the cost of supporting facilities necessary
for the operation to take place. The indexes of any operation can be improved by perfecting the design
of the working elements and by automating operational processes which is nothing but modernization.
The life of any technology can be improved by well timed modernization which ensures that the
technology meets the demand of technical and scientific progress.

Poppy Flower In The Great Gatsby
The delicate beauty of a flower has been recognized by every generation, starting at even the
beginning of time and prevailing during even the grimmest of situations. In 1920, two years after the
end of WWI, a now hailed woman by the name of Moina Michael began a tradition that would last for
years to come. She, like so many others, had been deeply affected by the war and, inspired by the
poem In Flanders Fields, proposed presenting the poppy flower as a symbol of remembrance of those
who had given their lives to the war. This small proposal led to the poppy flower being worn every
Armistice day. It became a tribute to those who were strong enough to fight and die for their country,
and those who fought to right the flaws and weaknesses of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Wilson is one of the smallest yet most important people in all of The Great Gatsby. He is claimed by
his wife, Myrtle, to be a dirty little coward, which is most likely one of the reasons she leaves him in
the dust behind her (137). This statement establishes the fact that Wilson has a weakness of living
almost in fear. However, this fear backfires when Wilson finds a beautiful, silver dog collar. After
finding it, he jumps to the conclusion that it was a gift to his wife from a lover. Due to this realization,
he locks Myrtle in her room and plans to move West, proving that he had more strength than she had
anticipated. However, he does not have the emotional strength to follow through with it, and in a fit of
hysteria, Myrtle runs into the road and is instantly killed after being run over by a car. He was so
fearful of her that he did not stop her, and so ignorant that he did not realize his situation until death
came knocking at his door. As it is gracefully put by Tom, He s so dumb he doesn t know he s alive
(26). After Myrtle s death, something changes inside of him, something snaps, and it is best explained
through the words of one of Wilson s neighbors, Michaelis: He was his wife s man, not his own (137).
After placing so much into Myrtle and allowing himself to be completely taken over by her, her death
caused him to lose a sense of identity

Comparing Mason City, Iowa
There are many beautiful places around the world to live, choosing one is a very difficult decision.
There is also a lot of different countries but the United States is where I will stay, even in America,
though, there is such a variety of places to live. Savannah, Georgia has caught my eye in many ways
but I don t know if I could ever leave small town Iowa, like Mason City. While considering these two
places, I know that there are a few things that I have to keep in mind such as the job outlook, cost of
living, things to do, and one of the most important, weather. Mason City, Iowa has a lot going on when
it comes to weather: below zero winters, blazing hot summers, and in between autumns and springs.
Iowans seem to get it all. The average annual high temperature isn t actually very high, with a low
number of fifty six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One you get a small community feeling and other is close to a small community I know and grew up
in. When it comes to weather, Mason City experiences various types whereas Savannah is mostly
warm and predictable. Both cities, however, have high humidity. Another thing they have in common
is the growth of the occupation of a physician assistant and the cost of living is fairly close as well.
Crime wise, Mason City seems the safer route with my family being close by and it having a lower
crime rate in general. There is a lot more things to do in Savannah than in Mason City, I wouldn t find
myself getting bored with all the history to explore. Mason City, however, is closer to my family and I
know the area. Because both places are lovely and great places to live, I could see myself living in
both. I think that moving out of Iowa to Savannah after college before I settle down would be a great
eye opener and allow me to experience more American culture. I would love the history and being
close to the beach at all times. Then, like my parents, when I m ready to settle down, move back to
Iowa close to

The Waste Of The State Of America s Food Waste
Mr. Wisland, I have been doing research on food waste in Athens, Ohio. The goal of my research is to
find a plausible solution to the waste. To begin the gathering of information, I searched through the
Ohio University ArticlesPlus Database to find any journals that I could find pertaining to the state of
America s food waste, how we can make a difference, and what has already been implemented to
make a change. This was my way of looking at the amount of food wasted from a bigger perspective. I
found four sources on the issue as a whole, to which I have included in my annotated bibliography. All
sources have a primary focus on statistics of food waste in America, and finding a solution to the
problem that we have created. The statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The easiest way to reach all consumers at large would to host media campaigns through commercials,
television, news articles, and anything else along those lines. It is vital that consumers learn because
around 73% of consumers think that they waste less than the average person, however, there is still
over $165 billion worth of food wasted. From there, I knew that I had to dig into food waste just a bit
deeper to find the information that I needed pertaining to Athens, Ohio. I searched for sustainability
and food waste programs or groups on Ohio University s campus to find out just how bad food waste
is in our town. I found two different groups: Athens Food Rescue, and Athens Hocking Recycling
Center. Both of these groups have a similar mission, and that is to reduce food waste, promote
environmental health, and building a community around the food in Athens county that would
normally be thrown away. Athens Food Rescue was one of my favorite groups to listen to as they
collect surplus food from places around Athens and redistribute it to the homeless, hungry, or low
income people. In my opinion, this is the best solution to food waste in Athens, as we are living in one
of the most low income towns in all of Ohio. I learned that Athens Hocking Recycling Center offers
compost services throughout all of Hocking and Athens. They offer five, seven, or

on the prejudices displayed in the story. He praises Steinbeck s development of the characters and the
friendship between George and Lennie. He agrees that although George and Lennie s dream to have a
farm is unreachable their friendship is what makes the story so appealing to readers. Topham relates
George and Lennie s troubles to those of the modern day world. He writes how the friendship between
the two boys is a shining example of how even though the world is harsh at times, love and friendship
can still exist. Topham gives the example of George and Lennie s friendship as support of this idea.
Topham emphasizes that there is always an upside to bad times and uses the struggles of the main
characters to prove his idea. Topham does not provide any evidence besides George and Lennie s
friendship to support his ideas and opinion of Mice and Men. While Topham does explain

The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay
The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this
life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime
components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences
affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting
and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure
Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component
in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered
essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for
fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal operation
and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) (6).
The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times that may
lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7). Increasing
nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing emrittlement (7). The
degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation embrittlement, Thermal ageing,
Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning nuclear piping the main degradation

Military Life-Transition Assistance Program
Over the next few years, more than a million military service members are expected to transition to
the general population and some challenges are expected such as finding a good job to sustain their
way of living (GAO, 2014). To assist service men and women during the process of transition, the
Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program (SFL TAP) previously known as the Army Career and
Alumni Program (ACAP) was put in place. This is a program that has been in existence since 1990
after the congress passed a law targeting its establishment. This mandatory program was designed by
the Department of the Army to help ease the burden of Military and Department of the Army
employees experiencing career transition. The program was established to assist not only military
personnel but also their family members with transitioning. It was founded as an answer to the
problems associated mostly with job acquisition, school admission and rehabilitation of military
personnel into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some of the services provided in the program include assistance with resume writing, interview
techniques, job search skills, military to civilian job translation etc. The program works by providing
quality guidance, training, support and general resources to service members during their career
transition from federal service. SFL TAP is a one size fit all program that covers most of the basics
service members require to properly transition. Over the years since its inception, the Defense
Department, the labor Department and the Department of Veterans Affairs have worked to upgrade the
program so as to prepare soldiers for the rigors of life after federal service. However recent studies
and statics have shown that the program might still be incredibly underwhelming especially in
preparing retiring professionals for a successful

  • 3. The Media s Influence On The Public s Perceptions Of... With continued saturation of media channels in today s world, it s no wonder that our personal ideals are often affected by the portrayals depicted on television. In this paper I will examine how the media, in particular reality television (RTV), often provides a simplistic and stereotypical ideal of wealth and well being. I intend to demonstrate that the political ideologies reinforced by the images created in reality TV can be damaging and misleading to the public perception, often running counter to the statistical reality. Through a review of specific programs and research, I will establish that these shows are subconsciously influencing the public s perceptions of wealth and happiness. In North America almost every household (99%) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By looking at a number of examples including the reality TV shows The Shahs of Sunset and Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, I seek to uncover what ideologies and issues are really at play behind the slick television productions. Since the proliferation of cable television and subsequent technological advances including colour, satellite, digital, Smart, and now even 3D TV, television has become a dominant force in our lifestyles. It has physically entrenched itself in our homes and psychologically engrained itself in our minds. As such, television has become an important tool for integrating individuals into the social order, celebrating dominate values, and offering models of thought and behaviour for imitations (Winslow p. 268). The Influence Of Classism In the novel Pride and Prejudice the author, Jane Austen, employs sarcasm coupled with irony and characterization in a tantalizing expose that brings to light the unreasonable societal expectations and behaviors of the 19th century and the influence of classism in the search for matrimony. Austen uses an intriguing intertwining of the three stand out elements in her novel. Characterization is mixed with implicit doses of irony and sarcasm to accurately portray different characters as representations of aspects in society during the 19th century. Benjamin Franklin, the Father of Foreign Diplomacy Essay Some people will argue that the true birth of United States of America started with George Washington leading the Continental Army against Great Britain s royal army in pursuit of freedom from foreign dictatorship; seizing the opportunity to create and control their own government in the manner in which they sought fit. One of the major forces in this battle for freedom was the diplomatic travels of Benjamin Franklin. In 1765 at the age of 59, Franklin addressed Parliament regarding the Quartering Bill, which allowed forceful housing of British soldiers in the homes of the Americans. He argued on behalf of the colonies and Parliament amended the bill making the act illegal. During this same year, Parliament passed the Stamp Act as a way of acquiring more money from the colonies. This is where many of Benjamin Franklin s diplomatic duties began. Franklin was called to testify in front of Parliment, A questioner asked: Considering the resolutions of Parliament as to the right, do you think, if the stamp act is repealed, that the North Americans will be satisfied? The Unified Science Center At Stockton For My Project I decided to choose the Unified Science Center at Stockton for my project because it is easily accessible to me, it is fairly new and as a business major student, I found the building to be very impressive. We business majors don t have a place to hang out or a quiet place to talk to people in our major. I normally just see people in the library or in the hallway and if we have to do schoolwork we just go to a computer lab. However, the Science and Math majors have a building full of labs and classrooms. In my opinion I felt like Stockton was trying to one up the Arts building with another new building. The two buildings are similar in the way they both function. The Art building is a good place for the Art majors to get creative for their assignments and while these students are surrounded by artwork they could feel more of an impact from the atmosphere. The Science Center is a good place to apply what the Science students have learned in class and apply it in a laboratory. Stockton University built this building to attract more science students. I think EYP did a great job designing the building. If you never entered the building before, you can just look at it from the outside and just tell that it is a building designed for Science majors. The Education System Of Pakistan The education system in Pakistan focuses mainly on primary education however you find that a large number of children ages 5 9 are not attending schools and it would appear that primary system needs to enlarge if universal primary enrolment is to be achieved (Lynd, 2007). In Pakistan, there were 14 million girls studying in basic education in 2005, compared to 18.3 million boys. In other words, there were over 4 million more boys than girls in basic education. This is still an issue in Pakistan where there are more number of boys in education than girls. The disparity in favour of boys was prevalent at all levels of basic education, with the exception of the higher secondary level where the number of girls was very close to equal to the number of boys, which indicates that Pakistan displays a disparity in favour of girls at this stage of education. This implies that many more boys than girls discontinued their education after secondary school with the result that their numbers matched those of the girls in the final level. Those that can afford to pay to go school will be able to attend better and improved education but those in rural areas are at disadvantage as they cannot afford to let their children go to school. • 29. Management Functions And Functions Of Management Essay Management is viewed as a critical part in any business or corporate commercial enterprises. Group assignments provide a useful platform for understanding the management functions that consist of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling (POLC). I totally do agree with this statement. Management of groups is actually the key to all of these P O L C functions. Any management can accomplish and succeed objectives through the organizing execution of these four functions (123helpme.com, 2015). When a plan is followed, one possibly can always observe how much one has progressed towards the goal and what s left to reach the destination. Also a person should know where they stand. This helps in making good decisions. Another important thing I grasped from the group work was the 80/20 rule. It indicates that 80 percent of one s respective outcomes originate from 20 percent of one s respective inputs. The second management function is organizing. Organizing means relationship between persons, work and resources used to achieve the common goals. The principle purpose connected with being organized is to establish successful lines connected with responsibility along with authority designed. Leading is the third management function. Leading involves the actual social as well as informal types of influence that can be used to be able to inspire activity taken by others. If managers are competent leaders, their subordinates are going to be enthusiastic in relation to exerting effort to get organizational goals. The industry is one driven by the sudden increase in demand for sushi, a Japanese haute food which is now consumed globally. It will also illustrate the uniqueness and important role which the bluefin tuna plays in aquatic ecosystems throughout the Pacific, Atlantic, and Indian Oceans. Lastly, the issues of globalization and lack of market regulation will be examined as a cause for the collapse in Atlantic bluefin fisheries. The tuna industry in Japan is having negative environmental impacts on the oceanic ecosystem. The Arguments Despite the unparalleled popularity of bluefin tuna in today s sushi industry, it has not always been this way. Sushi, prior to the mid twentieth was a luxury food eaten exclusively during special occasions, and Japanese chefs never used to serve bluefin tuna in sushi bars (Kurokura, Takagi, Sakai, Yagi, 2012). The tuna had too strong of a taste for the Japanese palette who preferred milder species of fish, however this all changed post WWII. Japan underwent a rapid transformation from a war torn state into a global economic power in a matter of decades. By 1980, Japan had become the second largest economy in the world, following only USA (Dicken, 2011). The proliferation of the middle and upper class in Japan equated in a greater demand for sushi in everyday diet. The 1970 s marked a new epoch in sushi culture as the quest for ... Though, if all the facts are taken into consideration, they do not really seem worth it, do they? Many people speculate whether or not they are actually measuring a student s intelligence or anything like that. It seems that students do not necessarily have to learn the material, only memorize it for a short period of time. The question has to be raised, though what exactly qualifies a test to be a standardized test? When students think about tests, their thoughts tend to move more towards the idea of how am I going to memorize all of this in one week, I know this from experience. Why is this the way that students treat such important tests? I ask myself that question just about every time I think about taking an end of course test, SAT, ACT, or anything like that. All across the nation, students have also been introduced to a thing called common core, which has, for some reason, been made even more difficult than the previous set standards. This seems to be no solution to the problem, but will more than likely only worsen the ditch that we have gotten ourselves into, in terms of education. Before focusing on making school more challenging for students and teachers, would not it make more sense for the problem of students not actually learning the content of the course to be fixed first? With more challenging tests, comes more confused students who are willing to do anything just to pass; including flushing their education down the toilet. They do this by only storing the information in their short term memory rather than actually learning the content of the class, but it s not always their faults, either. The way the school system is set up, students are not taught how to actually learn the material or use it in real life. A student s only goal is making good grades on the tests and surviving the class. This memorizing business can hurt students later on in life, as well. These kids get used to taking the easy way out, and will never learn the deeper thinking skills that they need to succeed in the world today. The focus on memorization, fueled by standardized testing, has obstructed learning, according to Linda Darling Hammond of Stanford University, who argues that students have been losing or squandering most of the information they acquire in school. Tilly begins by defining revolution and then presents his hypothesis that revolutions stem from the state s actions. According to the author, a revolution consists of two parts, each broken into smaller parts of their own: a revolutionary situation and a revolutionary outcome. A revolutionary situation will consist of three qualifiers. First, a group, or coalition of groups, puts forward a claim to control of the state. The group coming forward must have a claim that cannot coexist with the current regime. This qualifier rules out issues between groups such as political parties that are able to coexist with each other under a basic framework for government. Second, a substantial amount of citizens must give the group support. If a group steps forward without support from the citizens then the power for that group to enact change is handicapped. Third, the rulers must be either unable or unwilling to silence the group. The rulers usually face this situation when their military power has weakened or been spread too thin, giving this definition of revolution a realist edge. Revolutionary outcomes consist of four parts. Members of either side defecting to the other would be considered a revolutionary outcome as it would swing state control into the favor of the group receiving the defectors. Savannah, Georgia has caught my eye in many ways but I don t know if I could ever leave small town Iowa, like Mason City. While considering these two places, I know that there are a few things that I have to keep in mind such as the job outlook, cost of living, things to do, and one of the most important, weather. Mason City, Iowa has a lot going on when it comes to weather: below zero winters, blazing hot summers, and in between autumns and springs. Iowans seem to get it all. The average annual high temperature isn t actually very high, with a low number of fifty six ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One you get a small community feeling and other is close to a small community I know and grew up in. When it comes to weather, Mason City experiences various types whereas Savannah is mostly warm and predictable. Both cities, however, have high humidity. Another thing they have in common is the growth of the occupation of a physician assistant and the cost of living is fairly close as well. Crime wise, Mason City seems the safer route with my family being close by and it having a lower crime rate in general. There is a lot more things to do in Savannah than in Mason City, I wouldn t find myself getting bored with all the history to explore. Mason City, however, is closer to my family and I know the area. Because both places are lovely and great places to live, I could see myself living in both. I think that moving out of Iowa to Savannah after college before I settle down would be a great eye opener and allow me to experience more American culture. I would love the history and being close to the beach at all times. Then, like my parents, when I m ready to settle down, move back to Iowa close to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. The Waste Of The State Of America s Food Waste Mr. Wisland, I have been doing research on food waste in Athens, Ohio. The goal of my research is to find a plausible solution to the waste. To begin the gathering of information, I searched through the Ohio University ArticlesPlus Database to find any journals that I could find pertaining to the state of America s food waste, how we can make a difference, and what has already been implemented to make a change. This was my way of looking at the amount of food wasted from a bigger perspective. I found four sources on the issue as a whole, to which I have included in my annotated bibliography. All sources have a primary focus on statistics of food waste in America, and finding a solution to the problem that we have created. The statistics ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The easiest way to reach all consumers at large would to host media campaigns through commercials, television, news articles, and anything else along those lines. It is vital that consumers learn because around 73% of consumers think that they waste less than the average person, however, there is still over $165 billion worth of food wasted. From there, I knew that I had to dig into food waste just a bit deeper to find the information that I needed pertaining to Athens, Ohio. I searched for sustainability and food waste programs or groups on Ohio University s campus to find out just how bad food waste is in our town. I found two different groups: Athens Food Rescue, and Athens Hocking Recycling Center. Both of these groups have a similar mission, and that is to reduce food waste, promote environmental health, and building a community around the food in Athens county that would normally be thrown away. Athens Food Rescue was one of my favorite groups to listen to as they collect surplus food from places around Athens and redistribute it to the homeless, hungry, or low income people. In my opinion, this is the best solution to food waste in Athens, as we are living in one of the most low income towns in all of Ohio. I learned that Athens Hocking Recycling Center offers compost services throughout all of Hocking and Athens. They offer five, seven, or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He agrees that although George and Lennie s dream to have a farm is unreachable their friendship is what makes the story so appealing to readers. Topham relates George and Lennie s troubles to those of the modern day world. He writes how the friendship between the two boys is a shining example of how even though the world is harsh at times, love and friendship can still exist. Topham gives the example of George and Lennie s friendship as support of this idea. Topham emphasizes that there is always an upside to bad times and uses the struggles of the main characters to prove his idea. • 53. The Lifetime Of A Nuclear Power Plant Essay The lifetime of a nuclear power plant is planned to be 40 years. Recently there are trails to raise this life in new constructions as well as the old ones to 60 years (1 4). During this prolonged lifetime components are exposed to degradation that may affect safe operation of the plant. Such influences affect pressure retaining items of the plant including reactor pressure vessel, reactor piping, bolting and threaded fasteners, steam generator materials and several other items (5). The Reactor Pressure Vessel (RPV) is the most critical component in the LWR pressure boundary. It is the only component in this boundary whose failure is considered to be of such low probability that it is considered essentially incredible. NRC regulations require that RPV steels maintain conservative margin for fracture toughness so that flaws do not threaten the integrity of a RPV during either normal operation and maintenance cycles or under accident transients such as Pressurized Thermal Shock (PTS) (6). The major technical issues regarding aging of RPV include: high fluences, for long times that may lead to high emrittlement creating large uncertainties for emrittlement predictions (7). Increasing nickel content in the RPV steel, all other factors being equal, causes increasing emrittlement (7). The degradation mechanisms that may affect RPV include Irradiation embrittlement, Thermal ageing, Temper embrittlement, Fatigue and Corrosion (8). Concerning nuclear piping the main degradation ... Military Life-Transition Assistance Program Over the next few years, more than a million military service members are expected to transition to the general population and some challenges are expected such as finding a good job to sustain their way of living (GAO, 2014). To assist service men and women during the process of transition, the Soldier for Life Transition Assistance Program (SFL TAP) previously known as the Army Career and Alumni Program (ACAP) was put in place. This is a program that has been in existence since 1990 after the congress passed a law targeting its establishment. This mandatory program was designed by the Department of the Army to help ease the burden of Military and Department of the Army employees experiencing career transition. SFL TAP is a one size fit all program that covers most of the basics service members require to properly transition. Over the years since its inception, the Defense Department, the labor Department and the Department of Veterans Affairs have worked to upgrade the program so as to prepare soldiers for the rigors of life after federal service.
