parades were enjoyed by residents and former

Back Creek Sam, a fictional character who
looks like a snake, originated from the Artesian
festival.
The last Artesian festival was held in 1997.

The Artesian Festival began in 1976 as a celebration of Barcaldine's Artesian water. Balls, mardi gras and street parades were enjoyed by residents and former residents of Barcaldine.
