What is Islam?
The meaning of Islam

Islam means acceptance of and
submission to God, and believers
must demonstrate this by worshiping
him, following his commands, and
                                      Acceptance
avoiding polytheism. &
                                      Submission
The meaning of Islam

The word is given a number of
meanings in the Qur'an.

In some verses (ayat), the
quality of Islam as an internal
conviction is stressed:
“ So whoever Allah wants
    to guide, He expands his
    breast to contain Islam...”

                  Surah Al-'An`ām (6:125)
Islam and din

Islam sometimes mention as “din”
usually translated as religion, as mention
in the Quran:

Din Deen Dyn Religion
“ Today, I have perfected your
religion (din) for you, I have
    completed My blessing upon
you, I have approved Islam for
    your religion.”

                     Surah Al-Mā'idah (5:3)
It's more than just verbal

Still others describe Islam as an action of Islam · Accept
returning to Allah, more than just a verbal
affirmation of faith. Iman · Faith

Another technical meaning in Islamic thought
is as one part of a triad of Islam, iman (faith), Ihsan · Excellence
and ihsan (excellence) where it represents
acts of worship ('ibadah) and Islamic law.

                                                    Worship · 'Ibadah
Muslims around the world

Believe in Allah
The one and only God, Allah

A Muslim believes in one God,

                                      1
Supreme and Eternal, Infinite and
Mighty, Merciful and Compassionate,
Creator and Provider.
The one and only God, Allah

Allah has neither father nor mother,

                                         =
neither sons nor was He fathered.
None equal to Him.

He is the God of all mankind, not of a
special tribe or race.

Needless and Independent

Allah does not need In return for all the great

Believe in
The Angels
The pure spiritual beings

There are purely spiritual and splendid
beings created by Allah. ZzzZzz

The beauty of it is they require no food
or drink or sleep and they have neither
physical desires nor material needs.
Cannot be seen

Each is charged with a certain duty.
Angels cannot be seen by the naked
eyes.

The Qur'an describes angels as
messengers with two, three or four
pairs of wings:
“ All praise is due to Allah,
    Creator of the heavens
    and the earth,

                    Surah Al-Fatir (35:1)
“ who made the angels
    messengers having wings,
    two or three or four...”

                  Surah Al-Fatir (35:1)
Believe in
The Revelations
As a guidance from Allah

A Muslim believes in all
scriptures and revelations of
Allah, as they were complete
and in their original versions.

As a guidance from Allah

Allah, the Creator, has not left man without
guidance for the conduct of his life.
Revelations were given to guide the people
to the right path of Allah and sent down to
selected people, the prophets and
messengers, to convey it to their fellow men.
The same message

The message of all the prophet and
messengers is the same.

They all asked the people of their time
to obey and worship Allah and none
other.

Types of revelations

Through out human civilisation there are four types of revelations.

Zabur ‣ Prophet Daud

Taurah ‣ Prophet Musa

Quran ‣ Prophet Muhammad
The fourth revelations: Quran

Quran ‣ Prophet Muhammad

The Quran is the sacred book of the
Muslims today. It is the last book of
guidance from Allah, sent down to
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon
him), through the angel Jibril (Gabriel).
It covers all areas of life

Quran contains principles, The theme of the Quran broadly
doctrines and directions for consists of three fundamental
                                 ideas: Oneness of Allah,

No scholar has questioned the fact that
the Quran today is the same as it was
revealed. Allah is protecting it from
                                being lost, corrupted or concealed.
Believe in
The Prophets
Prophets were humans

A Muslim believes in all the Messengers
and Prophets of God without any
discrimination.
                                          Human Beings
All messengers were mortals, human
beings, endowed with Divine
revelations and appointed by God to
teach mankind.

                                            Mortals
More than 25 Prophets

The Holy Quran mentions
the names of 25 messengers
and prophets and states that
there are others.
More than 25 Prophets

                                                   25
These include Noah, Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac,
Moses, Jesus and Muhammad. Their message might
look different, but the core message is similar.

The miracles of the prophets are
somehow dependent on the era they
were chosen.
They all have miracles

The miracles of the prophets are
somehow dependent on the era they
were chosen.

Moses had miracles to challenge the
magicians, because magic was very
popular in his era.

They all have miracles

At the time when Jesus was chosen,
medicine and healing was popular, so
his miracles was mainly related to
giving life to the dead or making a
statue come alive.
Prophet Muhammad’s miracle

Poetry was very popular when
Muhammad was chosen.

Prophet Muhammad’s miracle is the holy
Quran, and is the direct book of God.

Prophet Muhammad’s miracle

The book itself challenges people in many
ways, and tells them they cannot bring a verse
(sura), like Quran.

Allah tells the humankind that he protects
Quran from being corrupted, and has saved it
until now without any corruption.

Believe in The Day
of Judgement
The world will come to an end

This world as we know it will come
to an end, and the dead will rise to
stand for their final and fair trial.

On that day, all men and women
from Adam to the last person will
be resurrected from the state of
death for Judgement.
Everything is being recorded

Everything we do, say, make, intends
and thinks are accounted for and kept
in accurate records. They are brought
up on the Day of Judgement. REC
Always bear in mind that Allah is
watching our actions and the angels
are recording them.

                                         + REC
Believe in The
Predestination
Predestination = Qada' & Qadar

Qadaa and Qadar mean the Timeless
Knowledge of Allah and His power to plan
and execute His plans.

Allah is not indifferent to this world nor is
He neutral to it. It implies that everything
on this earth originates from the one and
only Creator who is also the Sustainer and
the Sole Source of guidance.
Have a strong faith

Allah is Wise, Just, and Although we may fail sometimes
                           to understand it fully.
Loving, and whatever

He does must have a Allah and accept whatever He
good motive. does because our knowledge is
limited and our thinking is based
                           on individual consideration.
“ Say: Never will we be
    struck except by what
    Allah has...

                Surah At-Tawbah (9:51)
“ decreed for us, He is our

    let the believers rely.”
