2. Gender
The first question I asked was to do with the gender of my audience. With 50%
of the responses coming back as female, it means that I can make my work
more favourable towards a female audience.
This is a good basic question to lead off with as it gives me an understanding
of who my target audience is.
3. Age
Of the 58 responses I received, 3
quarters of the responders were
between the ages of 16-19. This
means that I am going to target my
products at this age group as I have
the most data from this age range.
The results show that I should steer
clear of producing a product for
people over the age of 20.
These results are good for me as I
initially aimed to target my
products towards people under the
age of 19.
4. Occupation
47 of the 58 responses showed that my audience was still in full time education,
which fits with the previous question of over 3 quarters being between the ages
16-19. Despite this, there is still 9 people who are unemployed and 1 person both
part time education and part time employment, therefore I will have to factor
this into my thoughts on who my target audience is.
5. Music Genre
This question split the thoughts of my audience and leaves quite a bit to
questioned when it comes to deciding exactly who my target audience is. A
quarter of the audience said that their favourite genre is pop music, with 9
people saying rock music and 6 people saying Drum and Bass/Dubstep etc.
However there is also 19 people in the other section with some genre choices
being Death Metal, K-Pop, Nightcore and Indie rock all appearing in the results.
I was surprised by there being 19 people who selected other as Pop is the most
mainstream genre of music about.
6. Viewing of the videos
Of the 57 replies, nearly 60% said that they watch music videos regularly. This
shows that my audience is interested in viewing videos, so therefore the video
must apply to their needs especially.
7. Types of music video
The responses to this question were interesting as it gives me an idea as to what
the audiences will be interested in watching. 22.4% said that they preferred
performance videos the most, which is more than I anticipated as they’re quite
often all the same. Meanwhile another 22.4% said that they liked music videos
with all 3 of the types of music video (narrative, concept and performance).
The Narrative and Narrative/Performance options may have been popular
because people like to follow a story.
With these replies, it gives me a lot to think about with prospective ideas as the
audience appear to be happy with many different types of video.
8. Platforms of music video viewing
This question shows that almost half of my audience watches music videos on
their computer/laptop on most occasions. This surprised me, as initially I would
have thought that having a younger audience more people would have watched it
on a mobile phone as this is what so many young people are on most of the time.
I could incorporate this information I received and use it in my digipak to add
things like social media icons, which will appeal more greatly to a younger
audience who consume music videos on mobile phones and laptops/computers.
9. Midnight City – M83
A little under 2 thirds of my responses haven’t heard of my choice of music for
the video. This can make it a little bit difficult to make a product that the
audience are familiar with, and therefore they may not respond as positively to
the product.
