  • 2. Principles of Teaching and Learning Language 7. Learning is an active process. (G.Hein, 1991) -uses sensory input -not the passive acceptance of knowledge -learners should engage with the world.
  • 3. Principles of Teaching and Learning Language 8. Learning is reflective. -engage the mind as well as the hands. 9. ‘More time, more depth with fewer, more complex topics’ is more desirable. -no ‘mile-wide’ and ‘inch-deep’ learning - more focused in order to bring about change in knowledge and skills.
  • 4. Principles of Teaching and Learning Language 10. Emphasis on self-evaluation -feedback should be criterion-referenced -use rubrics 11. Make use of an integrated performance assessment -make connections between learning styles, intelligence, and the real world explicit in a way that is useful to both students and teachers.
