The Information Technology Act 2000 aims to give legal recognition to electronic transactions and digital signatures. It allows companies to store data electronically and provides for online filing of documents. The act recognizes electronic books of accounts and aims to prevent computer crimes and protect internet users' privacy. However, it does not apply to creation of trusts, wills, or sale of immovable property electronically. It also does not address copyright infringement, domain name protection, taxation, or payment of stamp duty on electronic documents.
