COUNTRY MUSIC. A NEW GENRE OF MUSIC WAS BORN…
60’S: DURING THIS TIME ROCK MUSIC STARTS TO BECOME OF AN AGE
OVERTAKING POP MUSIC ON THE CHARTS, THEY WERE OFF TO A HIT!
In the sixties, television becomes a major force in rock music as
networks try to attract a younger audience.
70’S: THIS IS WHEN THE ROCK GENRE STARTED EXPERIMENTING AND
BRANCHING OUT INTO DIFFERENT SUB GENRES. FOR EXAMPLE:
PROGRESSIVE ROCK, HEAVY METAL, HARD ROCK ETC…TOURING
BANDS MOVE FROM CLUBS AND THEATRES TO SPORTING AREANAS.
BIG BANDS FORMED IN THE 60’S LIKE THE ROLLING STONES, PINK
FLOYED TRAVEL IN PRIVATE JETS AND PLAY TO THOUSANDS!

80’S: CDS, SYNTHS AND RISE OF MTV… AVAILABLE ON 2000 CABLE
STATIONS MUSIC WAS BEING DISPLAYED EVRYWHERE THAT YOU
WENT, ROCK MUSIC AND THEIR SUB GENRES WERE SWEAPING THE
NATION. Bands including: iron maiden, judas priest, skid row etc…
90’s: Alternative Rock and it's sub-genres Grunge and Pop Punk
expand in popularity and ironically, explode into the mainstream
during the 1990's. Heavy metal morphs into new sub-genres such as
rap metal or rapcore, nu metal and industrial metal.
Today: rock music is still played world wide with many different
variations of rock with many different target audiences. Over the
years there has been a lot of experimentation with rock music but the
genre is still going strong today.
