5. childhood
o Abdurrahman ad-Dakhil Wahid was born from
Abdul Wahid Hasyim and Siti Solichah. Named
after Abd ar-Rahman I of the Umayyad Caliphate
and nicknamed "ad-Dakhil" ("the conqueror"), he
became popular by the name Gus Dur.
o The oldest of five siblings, he belonged to a very
prominent family in East Java. His father
participated in the nationalist movement and was
Indonesia's first Minister of Religious Affairs.
o He attended KRIS Primary School and Matraman
Perwari Primary School in Jakarta. In 1957, he
passed Junior High School, in Yogyakarta, Java
region. He shifted to Magelang to obtain Muslim
Education at Tegalrejo Pesantren.

o He enrolled at the Higher Institute for
Islamic and Arabic Studies in 1965,
but did not like the rote learning
method used by the University. He
also began to work at the Indonesian
Embassy.
7. Achievement for Indonesia
1. Give freedom to the Chinese to worship.
2. Make the day of Chinese new year as national Holiday.
3. Make Kong Hu Cu as a recognized religion.
4. Establish good coorperation with other countries
in a manner often travel outside
Indonesia.
5. Try to eliminate discrimination against
PKI.
6. Remove the rules that harm minorities.
8. Endof life
o KH. Abdurrahman Wahid or Gus Dur died
when Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono visited
him in Mangun Kusumo Hospital.
o Gus Dur was died because complications
of diabetes and kidney disease. He was
died on Wednesday, 30th of Desember
2009 at 18.45.
o Gus Dur was buried in Tebu Ireng,
Jombang, East Java and he leaved one
wife and four children.
