10. ANDROID OPERATING SYSTEM
The Android Operating System is a Linux-based OS developed by the Open Handset Alliance
(OHA). Android OS shipments overtook those of Symbian in the 4th Quarter of 2010, dislodging the
later from the number one spot among smartphone OSs.
It is an open source and freely available Linux based operating system mainly designed for
smartphones and tablets with touch screen.
It has all the basic operating features such as calls and messaging that can be used to establish
connections using different communication networks on different devices.
Each time the OHA releases an Android version, it names the release after a dessert. Android 1.5
is known as Cupcake, 1.6 as Donut, 2.0/2.1 as Éclair, 2.2 as Froyo and 2.3 is dubbed Gingerbread.
Once a version is released, so is its source code.
It is an open source system so it can easily be modified by anyone making it prone to malwares
and data stealing.

secure communications and mobile productivity, and well known for the keyboards on

the success of the Android and ios platforms; its numbers had fallen to 23 million in March
2016.

mobile OS so Nokia took over me in 2010 and named me Symbian
Foundation.
? But unfortunately my touchscreen wasn't as smooth as Android or
iOS and with increase in popularity of Android and iOS in 2012, I lost
popularity and my market value. So Nokia discontinued my usage
as a smartphone mobile OS.
