A vist to the Mezzanine, St Clears by Irfon and Glenys from Spain

1. An elderly couple originally from St. Clears but now based in Spain made a special visit
to see a photographic exhibition documenting St. Clears and the surrounding villages
over the last 100 years. Irfon and Glenys Walters now in their eighties drove more than
1,000 miles one way to visit friends and view the exhibition. Irfon has been keeping in
touch with life in St. Clears through the community website www.stclearstimes.com The
couple identified a number of relatives in the photographs and were able to pass on
stories of the village when they were young. Irfon offered a £20 prize for anyone who
could identify all of the men in a photograph of a farmer’s outing to a factory in Bristol.
His father was amongst the men and Irfon would love to know all the names. He said that
St. Clears was very fortunate to have such a rich photographic legacy for future
generations to share and commended the curator Mrs. Stella for all the hard work that has
gone into preserving the photographs, film and historic documents. The photographs are
on display at The Mezzanine on Bridge Street, St. Clears. Local historian Alan Evans
presented Mr. And Mrs. Walters with a book about the village of St. Clears and copies of
the St. Clears Times magazines.
