5 Digital Transformation Trends of 2019
1. Before we examine the upcoming developments in Digital Transformation, it’s
important to look back. Recent years have shown us just how quickly new technologies
form and evolve. It surrounds us both at home (with AI including Siri, Cortana and the
now famous Alexa), and all the way to the office with the systems we use to conduct daily
business processes.
5 DIGITAL TRANSFORMATION
TRENDS OF 2019
As of 2018, “89% of enterprises have plans to
adopt or have already adopted a digital-first
business strategy with Services (95%), Financial
Services (93%) and Healthcare (92%) leading all
industries. Big Data/Analytics (58%), mobile
technologies (59%), private cloud (53%), public
cloud (45%) and embeddable technologies (40%)
are the top five technologies already
implemented” (Forbes).
"89% of enterprises
have plans to adopt
or have already
adopted a digital-first
business strategy."
Where in the past we proved reluctant to rely on technology at work for reasons
ranging from lack of employee capability to prohibitive costs, Digital Transformation
is now exploding worldwide. In fact, according to Tech resource www.CIO.com, 64%
of respondents to a 2017 Constellation Research Survey agreed digital
transformation is “essential” to driving profits. As in years prior, the forecast is only
looking up for Digital Transformation in 2019.
What do we have to look forward to?
2. Connected Clouds/
"Multicloud" Systems1
2
3
Described as “a mix of workloads running in public,
private, and hybrid environments”, multicloud systems
are expanding to meet the needs of organizations for
whom exclusively private or public clouds, or even data
center storage, are not efficient or viable options.
We can expect that multicloud will be prominent in
Digital Transformation discussions in 2019, and that Cloud
platforms will grow and expand offerings to accommodate
these organizational needs.
Better Data
Analytics
Through Digital Transformation, companies will more efficiently
utilize data to make informed business decisions.
While “we have created 90% of the world’s data in the past year,
research is also showing that we are only using 1% of the data
effectively”. Companies such as Microsoft, SAP, SAS and Salesforce
have become pioneers in the conversion of raw data into
meaningful business analytics. With new processing power and
drive to derive analytics, it is predicted that the initial utilized
data percentage will grow from 1% to 3 or 4% by the year 2020.
The Rise of Consumption-Based
IT Services
Companies are becoming more discerning in choosing IT
services and solutions to fit their needs. As a result, “a la carte”
or “consumption-based” IT services are becoming more popular
due to their “scalability, shorter procurement cycles, and
increased agility”. These solutions are also often accompanied
by a smaller price tag despite their cutting edge technology, and
so it’s little surprise that they will continue to expand in
popularity in 2019.
3. Improved Identity
Management In the Cloud 4
5
The new standard for Cloud Identity Management
is the ability to manage one’s identity in a single
online persona, rather than yourself or an employee
having to use a Facebook or Google account. This
allows for both greater security and convenience.
For instance, a single identity account makes it so
that a user does not constantly have to prove that
they are who they say they are. This leaves more
room for productivity while at the same time ensuring
that private organizational information is maintained
in an isolated account (CIO).
Organizational Cultures Changing
in Favor of Digital Transformation
For quite some time, lack of appropriately
skilled personnel has been listed as one of the top
5 roadblocks to a company or organization
embarking on the path of Digital Transformation,
reported by 39% of organizations (ZDNet).
Now, with Digital Transformation becoming a
business priority, we will see increased
organizational focus and emphasis on new
techniques for upskilling workers in 2019. Efforts
will aim to make the transition process for
employees simpler and more enjoyable.
While we’ll eagerly chase news of these trends, surprises can await around any
corner. Grasping the full extent of growth will simply have to wait until 2020.
Regardless, it will still be an exciting year for Paperless Solutions, as well as Digital
Transformation as a whole.
