



Virtual reality is, plainly speaking, Seeing,
hearing, smelling, testing, feeling an
imaginary world, rather than the real one. The
imaginary world is a simulation running in a
computer. The sense data is fed by some
system to our brain.
A computer generated multi-sensory
information program which tracks a user in
real time.

Virtual Reality In Medical
7



The medical application of VR was stimulated
initially by the need of medical staff to
visualize complex medical data, particularly
during surgery and for surgery planning, and
for medical education and training.

Virtual Reality Systems
8



VR Systems can be divided into three groups


non-immersive systems (like workstations)

S inform

ation about the real world, presented via com
puter location based services, GIS.


hybrid systems (graphics on top of real world) also
called: Augmented reality systems

the illusion of immersion
by projecting stereo

Advantages of VR


Training



Risk-free experience



Experiencing things you
wouldn’t normally be
able to experience



Entertainment; fun,
artistic expression.

Dis Advantages of VR
 Disengagement with real
world.
 VR replacing reality.
 People preferring VR to
reality.
 Difficulty of
distinguishing between
virtual and real, ‘false
realities represented in
VR.
 Possible impacts on real
