1. MotherTeresa’s Lifestyle
of Compassion

2. Agnes Gonxha Bojaxhiu, popularly known as Mother
Teresa, was born in a middle-class family in Prizen,
Macedonia onAugust 26, 1910. Little did the world
know that day that a great blessing was born in that
place. At young age, MotherTeresa was shown an
example of charitable generosity by his father who
freely gave money and clothing to the poor. Her parents
and siblings were active servants in their church.
MotherTeresa’s father died when she was nine.This
event delivered a financial blow to other family.
Fortunately, her resourceful mother was able to make a
living and support their family. Despite their condition,
MotherTeresa still showed great devotion to God by
actively participating in prayer meetings and even
raising money for the missionaries. She also showed
eagerness in living a life dedicated to the Lord.

3. MotherTeresa was just a young girl when she heard
God call her to a life other what she had imagined. It was in
1928 when she joined the Sister of Loreto in Calcutta, India.
She work in hospital in Bengal and became a teacher in a girl
school. It was afterWorldWar II when death and violence
that she heard made her realize another call to God. She
would be there take her service to a greater level by leaving
the convent and offering herself to the poor by living among
them.This meant following God by living in the slums and
serving Him and His people. After deciding to follow the
Lord, she got some basic medical training and went to
Calcutta’s poorest towns.There, she began a school for the
children and provided simple medical treatments for the
poor. Having insufficient money for medicine, she would
often ask for free medicine from different pharmacies and
give it to the poor. She lived with the poor, taught them,
assisted them, and comforted them in their suffering.

4. Time passed by and the needs and demands of the
community had grown rapidly. Incidentally, one of
her former students and other girls had joined her in
her ministry. All of them followed a disciplined and
simple life. MotherTeresa drafted the written law of
the Society of Missionaries of Charity and made the
other girls pledge to live a life of service and
compassion.Their mission is to seek out and take
care of the poor, the abandoned, the sick, the old,
leprosy patient, the dying, the desperate, the lost,
and the outcast.Their ministry helped a lot of needy
people and was surely a glimpse of God’s glory on
earth.
In 1979, MotherTeresa won a Nobel Peace
Prize for her good deeds. Her ministry grew and
expanded outside India. Despite her success, she still
continued to live a life of on simplicity and grace.

5. On September 5, 1997, after living a full life, she
joined the Lord. Her life is a testimony of great
compassion. She did not only dedicate her
resources to charity, but she also offered herself
to humanity.
What MotherTeresa did is undeniably
noble and selfless. We might think that we are
not capable of doing the same thing she did, but
there is no need to go as far as she did to show
our compassion.The little things we do for our
fellow men are enough to make them feel that
they are cared for and loved.
