The School District in North Carolina suspends its $30 million Amplify tablet program. The district recognizes this will disrupt students, staff, and parents. Issues arose when a tablet charger partially melted while charging a student's tablet at home. The district is working to determine if this was caused by an electrical problem in the student's home or a manufacturing defect. Mass tablet programs have faced challenges this year, such as when the LA Unified School District took back iPads from students after a hacking scandal. The district is keeping the devices until it strengthens security measures.

The School District Suspends $30M Amplify Tablet Program in North Carolina. “We recognize that suspending the program on short notice is
going to be disruptive to students, staff and parents,” Green Explained. “ The use of technology is great in schools, but in my opinion it can be a
disruption to the students as well as for the teachers. Why do I say this? Well to begin with it takes time away from both teacher and student
when trying to troubleshoot for reasons of not being connected to the internet or the product not having sufficient battery life. The reasons are
millions but these little things can take away from precious school hours. So I think that if a schools decides to spend so much money on these
mini computers then they also have the finances to pay so that they are working at their fullest capacity and that if they do have any problems
like all computers do which is inevitable then they should have means so that the problem can be solved immediately. For example a person that
is able to troubleshoot the mini computer or some kind of live support… The solutions are endless. “This week our largest customer, Guilford
County Schools, informed us that a tablet charger, which was manufactured by ASUS, was partially melted while charging a student’s tablet at
home overnight. We are working to determine whether the issue was caused by an electrical problem in the student’s home or because of a
manufacturing defect”. I repeat myself these products should be completely inspected before entering a child’s home... This is a safety
hazard!!!!! “Mass tablet programs have faced serious hurdles this academic year. Recently, the Los Angeles Unified School District (LAUSD) has
decided to take back iPads from students after a hacking scandal rocked the fragile pilot’s early start. The district recovered iPads from students
at Westchester High School and Roosevelt High School and will keep the devices until the district strengthens security measures. These are high
school student they should know better than releasing out iPad without the proper security measures. I also think that these high school student
are taking their absolutely great benefit of getting an IPad from their school fro granted. Not every child is blessed with such greatness. Some
children don't even have ace to the internet!!!!! So why hack the system?????
