                                          A Trip To Bandung
Last Month, My friends and I had a wonderful tip Bandung. We had three days trip there, from
Friday To Sunday. We left to Bandung on Friday Afternopn and it only took about three and half an
hour by car from Tangerang, our home town. We started at 2 P.M and arrived around 5.30 P.M in
Bandung. As soon as we arrived in Bandung, we took a rest in a hotel downtown Bandung. After
taking a rest dan a shower, we had dinner and prepared for a night tour in Bandung.
Around 7.30 P.M, we drove to Ciampelas to buy some jeans and t-shirts. After 2 hours shopping
there, we dropped at Ciwalk for half an hour to relax and enjoy the beauty of Ciwalk. Our next
destination is Ciwidey and Cimangu. It tokk about one and half an hour to be in Ciwidey and
Cimangu. Unfortunatelly, we couldn't visit Ciwidey because of the bad weather and continued to
Cimangu, around one kilometer from it. In Ciwidey, we had a warm water bathing. All of us jumped
into the warn water and enjoyed it a lot. Our body soaked in a big warm swimming pool for about
an hour before we stopped. At 2 A.M on Saturday, we took a rest in of villager's house there near
Ciwidey.
On Saturday we had a great activity because we did many things. First we went to Ciwidey. We
enjoyed the nature of Ciwidey's View. We stayed there for about one hour. Around 10 o'clock, we
went to strawberry park located in Ciwidey, too. We learnt how to plant the strawberry and of course
ate some products made of strawberry, such as fried rice, cake and juice.
On Saturday afternoon around 2 P.M, we came back to hotel to drop our luggages. After 2 hours
in hotel, we went to Cibaduyut for shoes shopping. At around 7 P.M, we went to Dago Street to enjoy
saturday night there.
On Sunday Morning, we packed up and went back to Tangerang.

 NARRATIVE
                                         The Story of Sangkuriang
                                        (Folk Tale from West Java)
Once upon a time, in Sunda - West Java, living a Princes named Dayang Sumbi. Dayang Sumbi
had a son named Sangkuriang. Sangkuriang really liked hunting in the jungle and always asked his
dong, Tumang, to accompany him to go hunting. Actually Tumang was an incarnation of god and a
father of Sangkuring.
One day, As usual Sangkuriang went hunting in the jungle. There he saw a bird in the tree and
soon shot the bird. The shot was right on target but the bird flew. Sangkuriang ordered Tumang to
run after it, but Tumang didnt' want to do it. Sangkuriang ordered a few times and Tumang kept
doing nothing. Sangkuriang got angry. He beat Tumang and drove it away.
As soon as Sangkuriang arrived at home, he told it his mother.
His mother was angry because Sangkuriang had driven Tumang away. Then, Dayang Sumbi beat
Sangkuring. Sangkuriang did not like his mother treatment and decided to go from the house.
After that incident, Dayang Sumbi felt regrets. She prayed to God that one day she would meet
her son again. Everynight dan everyday she prayed and prayed. Because she prayed diligently, God
gave her an eternal beauty and young forever.
After leaving his village for a long time, Sangkuriang went back to his village. He was surprised
because his village had changed a lot. He became more surprising and happier when he met a
beautiful girl in the village, Dayang Sumbi, which was also his mother.
Sangkuriang proposed her and Dayang Sumbi agreed with his proposal. They planned to get
married soon.
One day Dayang Sumbi saw a scar in Sangkuriang's head. She asked him about the scar and
Sangkuriang told about it. Dayang Sumbi surprised because Sangkuriang was her son that had left
her for a long time. It was impossible for getting married with her own son.
Dayang Sumbi was confused. She asked Sangkuriang to cancel their marriage plan but
Sangkuriang didn't agree with it.
Finally, Dayang Sumbi proposed two requirements if Sangkurinag wanted to keep getting married
with her. First, He had to damn Citarum river and second, he had to make a canoed to across the
river. Both had to bed finished before dawn.
Sangkuriang agreed with both requirements and promised to finish them before dawn. With his
power and helped by his friends and jin, he did the two job and almost finished them. Dayang Sumbi

                                                     1
silently saw Sangkuriang's Job and was surprised because he almost finished them. Because she
didn't want Sangkuriang finished before dawn, she asked for people's help to hold red silk cloth in the
east of the village.
When Sangkuriang saw the red color in the east of the village, he thought that he failed. He was
upset dan break the dam. The water of the dam flew to the village. The village was flooded and

 SPOOF
                                            A Farmer And A Man
A farmer was sitting in the neighborhood bar getting drunk. A man came in and asked the
farmer, "Hey, why are you sitting here on this beautiful day, getting drunk?" The farmer shook his
head and replied, "Some things you just can't explain."
"So what happened that's so horrible?" the man asked as he sat down next to the farmer.
"Well," the farmer said, "today I was sitting by my cow, milking her. Just as I got the bucket full,
she lifted her left leg and kicked over the bucket."
"Okay," said the man, "but that's not so bad." "Some things you just can't explain," the farmer
replied. "So what happened then?" the man asked. The farmer said, "I took her left leg and tied it to
the post on the left."
    "And then?"
"Well, I sat back down and continued to milk her. Just as I got the bucket full, she took her right
leg and kicked over the bucket."
The man laughed and said, "Again?" The farmer replied, "Some things you just can't explain."
"So, what did you do then?" the man asked.
"I took her right leg this time and tied it to the post on the right."
    "And then?"
"Well, I sat back down and began milking her again. Just as I got the bucket full, the stupid cow
knocked over the bucket with her tail."
"Hmmm," the man said and nodded his head. "Some things you just can't explain," the farmer
said.
"So, what did you do?" the man asked.
"Well," the farmer said, "I didn't have anymore rope, so I took off my belt and tied her tail to the
rafter. In that moment, my pants fell down and my wife walked in ... Some things you just can't
explain."

  ANALYTICAL EXPOSITON
                                   Corruption and Indonesian Culture
Corruption has happened for many years and today it becomes a bad culture in Indonesia for
three reasons. Most adult Indonesian or foreigners have known and admitted that corruptions
happen in many places. The daily newspapers, news programs on TV and radio have reported
corruptions are done everywhere, almost in all departments or public services of this country.
Corruptions happen in health, education departments and banks. When we manage to get some
documents in public service offices, we usually need much money to pay. Manipulations happen
everywhere,
The actions to eliminate corruption are weak. The ever stronger culture seems not to come to an
end when the responsible institutions who have to reinforce the justice today commit corruption. This
is the worst. Corruptions happen in police department, courts where judges, public prosecutors,
lawyers make deals to do corruption. All of us also heard in the end of 2004, Probosutejo reported
that he had bribed the Supreme Court, or called Mahkamah Agung which becomes the highest level
where the justice can be obtained. Perhaps you have to try to come to the local courts and see what
happen there. You will see practices of bribery and other kinds of corruption. Therefore, we can say
that corruptions becomes our culture. Do you like it?
The citizens have no goodwill to fight against the corruption. They create the situations in which
people have opportunities to do corruptions. The citizens like to break the rules because they are not
disciplined. For example, in the street when they drive a car or ride motorcycle, they do not have the
driving license or necessary documents. Then, they are caught by the local policemen. To avoid more
difficulties, they like to bribe the officer. The officer let them go then. In other words, the citizens and
officers are the same, doing corruption together. If only the people were critical, disciplined, and
obey the rules, and willing to report any wrong behaviors, this country will not be number one
corrupting country in the world. conclusion Based on the reasons, we can conclude that corruption is

                                                     2
becoming a bad culture in Indonesia if it is not ended soon by all of us. It seems that there must be
more severe penalty for the corruptors. Do we still care about the future of this country?

 HORTATORY EXPOSITION
                                                Corruption
Do you know what the meaning of corruption is? What is the relation between money and
corruption? Well, corruption is common everywhere in the world, even in the United States. It’s just a
matter of intensity. However, it is quite shocking when one reliable survey claims Jakarta as the most
corrupt place in Indonesia.
The survey has made me sad, actually, because I stay and earn a living here in the capital. As
most people know, Tanjung Priok port smuggling is not a new thing at all. Entrepreneurs who want
to minimize their tax payments tend to do such a thing more often. They even bribe the officials.
Well, I think the measures taken so far to overcome the problem by punishing the corruptors is
still not far enough. We have to prevent the younger generations from getting a bad mentality
caused by corruption.
I believe we should start at the earliest stages in school and I think everyone should be involved
in the effort to eradicate corruption. We must not make any distinction.

  DISCUSSION
The Advantages and the Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy
Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy. The
debate of whether the use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice has not come to an end. Some
people agree with the utilization of it because of its benefits. Some others, however, disagree
because of its risks to the environment.
Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors usually argue that nuclear energy is the
only feasible choice to answer the ever-increasing energy needs. In their opinion, the other sources
of energy: oil, coal, and liquid natural gas are not renewable and safe, while nuclear energy can be
sustainable when produced in a safe way.
However, people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy point out that the waste of nuclear
products can completely destroy the environment and human lives. A meltdown in a reactor, for
example, usually results in the contamination of the surrounding soil and water. Take for example,
the blow up of the nuclear reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in Russia twenty years
ago. The serious contamination imperiled people and the environment severely.
It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it really endangers the environment
but what about a less polluted energy instead of nuclear energy? Is there any alternative energy to
overcome the crisis of energy?

 NEWS ITEM
                                       Lapindo Hot Mudflow
Jakarta: the spreading of Lapindo hot mudflow post explosion of Pertamina’s gas pipe forced the
residents of Kedungbendo and Renokenongo villages to evacuate.
The mudflow also flooded half of the Tanggulangin anggun Sejahtera housing complex in
Sidoarjo. Mudflow of more than half a meter in depth flooded 66, 0448 houses in this complex.
“The residents were evacuate to Pasar baru, which was previously a shelter for 2, 605 families
whose houses were flooded by mudflows”, said Syaiful Illah, a deputy regent of Sidoarjo, yesterday
(16 november 2006).
From Tempo’s monitoring, the refugees came continuously by trucks, public transportations and
motorcycles. They straightaway occupied the market, kiosks and stalls by spreading out mats and
pillow for sleeping.
Government officials appeared to be busy preparing mass kitchens and supplying rice, instant
noodles, cooking oil and other needs. “We took the food from Sidoarjo Social Service”, said Syaiful
Illah. “There hasn’t been any aid provided by Lapindo”. In the mean time, the National team for
mudflow relief in Sidoarjo has not been able to block mudflow in the gas pipe explosion.

A man came in and asked the farmer, "Hey, why are you sitting here on this beautiful day, getting drunk?" The farmer shook his head and replied, "Some things you just can't explain." "So what happened that's so horrible?" the man asked as he sat down next to the farmer. "Well," the farmer said, "today I was sitting by my cow, milking her. Just as I got the bucket full, she lifted her left leg and kicked over the bucket." "Okay," said the man, "but that's not so bad." "Some things you just can't explain," the farmer replied. "So what happened then?" the man asked. The farmer said, "I took her left leg and tied it to the post on the left." "And then?" "Well, I sat back down and continued to milk her. Just as I got the bucket full, she took her right leg and kicked over the bucket." The man laughed and said, "Again?" The farmer replied, "Some things you just can't explain." "So, what did you do then?" the man asked. "I took her right leg this time and tied it to the post on the right." "And then?" "Well, I sat back down and began milking her again. Just as I got the bucket full, the stupid cow knocked over the bucket with her tail." "Hmmm," the man said and nodded his head. "Some things you just can't explain," the farmer said. "So, what did you do?" the man asked. "Well," the farmer said, "I didn't have anymore rope, so I took off my belt and tied her tail to the rafter. In that moment, my pants fell down and my wife walked in ... Some things you just can't explain." http://www.text-types.com/2011/03/example-of-spoof-farmer-and-man.html  ANALYTICAL EXPOSITON Corruption and Indonesian Culture Corruption has happened for many years and today it becomes a bad culture in Indonesia for three reasons. Most adult Indonesian or foreigners have known and admitted that corruptions happen in many places. The daily newspapers, news programs on TV and radio have reported corruptions are done everywhere, almost in all departments or public services of this country. Corruptions happen in health, education departments and banks. When we manage to get some documents in public service offices, we usually need much money to pay. Manipulations happen everywhere, The actions to eliminate corruption are weak. The ever stronger culture seems not to come to an end when the responsible institutions who have to reinforce the justice today commit corruption. This is the worst. Corruptions happen in police department, courts where judges, public prosecutors, lawyers make deals to do corruption. All of us also heard in the end of 2004, Probosutejo reported that he had bribed the Supreme Court, or called Mahkamah Agung which becomes the highest level where the justice can be obtained. Perhaps you have to try to come to the local courts and see what happen there. You will see practices of bribery and other kinds of corruption. Therefore, we can say that corruptions becomes our culture. Do you like it? The citizens have no goodwill to fight against the corruption. They create the situations in which people have opportunities to do corruptions. The citizens like to break the rules because they are not disciplined. For example, in the street when they drive a car or ride motorcycle, they do not have the driving license or necessary documents. Then, they are caught by the local policemen. To avoid more difficulties, they like to bribe the officer. The officer let them go then. In other words, the citizens and officers are the same, doing corruption together. If only the people were critical, disciplined, and obey the rules, and willing to report any wrong behaviors, this country will not be number one corrupting country in the world. conclusion Based on the reasons, we can conclude that corruption is 2

Do we still care about the future of this country? http://www.text-types.com/2011/01/analytical-exposition-text-corruption.html  HORTATORY EXPOSITION Corruption Do you know what the meaning of corruption is? What is the relation between money and corruption? Well, corruption is common everywhere in the world, even in the United States. It’s just a matter of intensity. However, it is quite shocking when one reliable survey claims Jakarta as the most corrupt place in Indonesia. The survey has made me sad, actually, because I stay and earn a living here in the capital. As most people know, Tanjung Priok port smuggling is not a new thing at all. Entrepreneurs who want to minimize their tax payments tend to do such a thing more often. They even bribe the officials. Well, I think the measures taken so far to overcome the problem by punishing the corruptors is still not far enough. We have to prevent the younger generations from getting a bad mentality caused by corruption. I believe we should start at the earliest stages in school and I think everyone should be involved in the effort to eradicate corruption. We must not make any distinction. http://www.text-types.com/2011/01/hortatory-exposition-text-corruption.html  DISCUSSION The Advantages and the Disadvantages of Nuclear Energy Nuclear energy is commonly offered as an alternative to overcome the crisis of energy. The debate of whether the use of nuclear energy is an appropriate choice has not come to an end. Some people agree with the utilization of it because of its benefits. Some others, however, disagree because of its risks to the environment. Those who agree with the operation of nuclear reactors usually argue that nuclear energy is the only feasible choice to answer the ever-increasing energy needs. In their opinion, the other sources of energy: oil, coal, and liquid natural gas are not renewable and safe, while nuclear energy can be sustainable when produced in a safe way. However, people who disagree with the use of nuclear energy point out that the waste of nuclear products can completely destroy the environment and human lives. A meltdown in a reactor, for example, usually results in the contamination of the surrounding soil and water. Take for example, the blow up of the nuclear reactor at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Station in Russia twenty years ago. The serious contamination imperiled people and the environment severely. It is obvious that nuclear energy should be avoided because it really endangers the environment but what about a less polluted energy instead of nuclear energy? Is there any alternative energy to overcome the crisis of energy? http://www.text-types.com/2011/05/example-and-generic-structure-of_31.html  NEWS ITEM Lapindo Hot Mudflow Jakarta: the spreading of Lapindo hot mudflow post explosion of Pertamina’s gas pipe forced the residents of Kedungbendo and Renokenongo villages to evacuate. The mudflow also flooded half of the Tanggulangin anggun Sejahtera housing complex in Sidoarjo. Mudflow of more than half a meter in depth flooded 66, 0448 houses in this complex. “The residents were evacuate to Pasar baru, which was previously a shelter for 2, 605 families whose houses were flooded by mudflows”, said Syaiful Illah, a deputy regent of Sidoarjo, yesterday (16 november 2006). From Tempo’s monitoring, the refugees came continuously by trucks, public transportations and motorcycles.
