Special thanks to you. Your issues and questions are moving us forward. Kindly keep them coming. This is a
monumental project, and all hanbds are needed.
(1) I favor making your alternative model primary. It is theory­driven and innovative. Linkages to outcome
variables in the earlier overloaded model are are well­worn and boringly intuitive.
(2) Slovakia: is that all there is? I had assumed that n = 109 respondents was the end of the story. However,
it would be best if the effort were continued to n >200 as it is for other country data sets. BTW can we have a
progress report on the other country data sets?
(3) The provisional plan for the project: As I see it, we have data collector contributors who will be available for
ideas and critique in passim. For theories and models, l have identified published authors with special expertise
in consumer dispositions­­you, Alex, Walter and yours truly. Walter, in particular, has made important
contributions to the model and specific cross­cultural measures and versions to be employed.
We have already generated hypotheses and adduced their rationale. At present, I am working on a
measurements section with a research assistant. For data analysis, since we are all busy beyond belief, there is
the possibility that we might bring on­board an additional advanced methods specialist contributor who has the
time and stamina and can work under our direction. Programs are optional (I have EQS at the ready). I had
such a data analyst party who was technically proficient, disinterested in substance and theory (an ideal
requirement), but is no longer available. Any ideas?

Finally, in the last phase of actually drafting the article, I will join forces with you and Alex and others who
want to step forward for this phase.

I have attached the latest database for Slovakia to arrive for those who have not had access. We
are waiting on three more databases: India, UK and Norway.
Once the databases are in, we can look at cross­national measurement validation of scale
measures by computing for each country and for pooled data:
(a) dimensionality and discriminant validity, (b) convergent validity, (c) fit indices of n­factor
models,consistent factor structure and (d) composite reliability.
Cross­cultural validation of these scales is, in itself, an important contribution.

For your information, I attach the current draft by Alex and myself on the cosmo­CDI relationship
as well as the initial model draft (for which we might add alternative models later). I hope this is

Refering to Mel/Alex's conversation: to me, the question remains how we believe how values,
gender roles and morality relate to CDI.
and how marginality relates to these links?
How are we going to proceed on the data analysis? I someone volunteering to check for
psychometrics (alphas, means, SD) of our scales in a first step?
Can we use SPSS (and then LISREL for SEMs) or are you planning to use something else?

Glad you asked.
In my view, a priority for your contribution (as well as that of Martin and Andrea) to
the article's text will be a small section that theorizes and hypothesizes about the
effects of moral foundation on consumer cosmopolitanism and disidentification. I
have attached a recent article on Moral Ties that in itself may be useful in this task­
­and its references are ample. Additionally, you will find the collection of chapters in
my book on Consumer Cosmopolitanism in the Age of Globalization­­and especially
Petra's work­­beneficial. Josiassen's article on disidentification will be instructive, as
well.
Kindly let me know how you wish to proceed. Undoubtedly, Petra will have some
additional thoughts about contributions of all co­authors.

So the next step will be data analysis and the publication of results. Unfortunately,
due to multiple obligation, I was unable to follow the discussion with respect to the
theoretical details.
Please could you kindly let us know how to proceed further. Of course, as co­
authors we would like to contribute at least small parts of the final text...
I suppose that data analysis will be done on the basis of the complete, international
data set, but please let us know whether we could contribute to this as well.
