LISTENING
Do you like
having classes online?
A. Listen to the first part of a podcast about having classes online and circle the words you
hear. (6 x 1 = 6 points)
We asked students how they have been coping with 1rewrote / remote learning. They told us
about all the things they miss about going to school: their friends, teachers, 2sports / reports,
extracurricular activities, even “the loud and crazy 3lunchroom / classroom.” But some students
have discovered that they enjoy getting to work at their own pace, set their own schedule and be
free from “the 4successful / stressful environment of school.” Others, though, recounted the
challenges of distance learning, from struggling to understand 5confinements / assignments
and getting easily 6distracted / adapted to not having reliable internet. “If you had told me a few
months ago that I would be praying to go to school, I would’ve laughed and called you crazy, but
I would do anything to go back to my school,” Hannah from Nashville said.
B. Now, listen to the second part of the podcast and mark the following sentences T (true) or
F (false). (7 x 2 = 14 points)
1. William says teachers have been assigning more homework. ____
2. William is always focused on his work when he is at home. ____
3. William wishes he could be in his classroom, getting help from his teachers. ____

VOCABULARY
City vs Countryside
A. Read the first part of a blog entry about the advantages
of living in the countryside and circle the correct option. (10 x 1 = 10 points)
Living in the countryside offers 1horrible / incredible lifestyle and health benefits, and at a much
lower cost. Life in the country is 2stressful / peaceful and 3noisy / quiet. As you get further away
from the 4city / countryside, you’ll notice the sounds of 5music / traffic are replaced with 6birds /
cows singing and small-town church bells. Country homes are generally 7larger / smaller, with
gardens, lawns and spaces to stretch out. Living in the countryside provides lots of room and
plenty of 8polluted / fresh rural air — a bonus for your physical and mental health. It’s also easier
to make 9enemies / friends. Neighbours make a point of getting to know each other, and local
bookshops and 10banks / cafés become regular gathering spots.
B. Now, complete the second part of the blog entry about the benefits of living in the city with
the words in the box. (10 x 1 = 10 points)
friends better public choice Wi-Fi
jobs opportunities online bus theatres
Cities generally have more 1choice when it comes to restaurants, bars, 2theatres and cinemas,
meaning far more options for fun nights out with family and 3 friends. Don’t forget about services
you’ll need to stay connected: 4Wi-Fi and telecommunications coverage are almost always 5better
in the big cities, so if you need 6online access for work, the country life may be a little challenging.
Public 7bus routes, subways and inner-city trams make it easy to get just about anywhere you
need to be. 8Public transportation puts everything in the city within reach. Living in the city can
also mean more career options. High-paying 9jobs in finance, medicine, law, advertising, retail
and more, tend to be found in cities. That can mean more 10opportunity and better salary
prospects.

READING
A. Read the following text carefully.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s First
Home Together
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have officially bought their first home together in California,
where they will be living with their son Archie.
A representative for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex confirmed the news, saying, "They have
settled into the quiet privacy of their community since their arrival and hope that this will be respected
for their neighbours, as well as for them as a family."
What is it like inside Harry and Meghan's new home? Here's everything you need to know.
Inside, the house has a total of nine bedrooms and 16 bathrooms. Reports say that there is also a
separate guest house with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, which Harry and Meghan will no doubt
use for other members of the family and especially Meghan's mother, Doria, who lives close by in
Los Angeles and is believed to have already visited the home. The main house includes a library,
an office, a spa with a separate sauna, a gym, a games room, a movie theatre, a wine cellar and a
garage with space for five cars. Outside, there is endless lawn space with rose gardens, a tennis
court, a tea house, a children's cottage and a large outdoor pool. Naturally, the property is one of
the most mind blowing you'll ever see.
Even though the home reportedly cost $14.65 million, Harry and Meghan refused to use the
royal family's money to buy it, but they also didn't have a spare $14.65 million lying around to spend
on it. So, they decided to do the thing normal people who buy a house they can't afford to buy do,
they have taken out a mortgage.
"Buying a house together is a huge milestone for Harry and Meghan, especially as it’s the first
property they’ve owned," the royal insider said. "They want to grow old together, reminiscing about
their amazing journey."
