RADIO TEACHER: A vowel digraph is a combination of two vowels that make a single
vowel sound like oa in ‘boat’, oo in ‘book’, ee in ‘feet’, ea in ‘meat’, ai in ‘rain’, and ay
in pray. It can be found either at the beginning, at the middle, or at the end of the word.
The vowel digraphs ay and ai have long a sound. Ea and ee have long e sound, while oo
and oa have long o sound. Here are some examples of words with vowel digraph.
Repeat after me:
Words with vowel digraph /ai/ in words that sounds as long a. Example: pail, sail, and
nail.Words with vowel digraph /ay/ in words that alsosounds as long a. Example: spray,
clay, and slay. Words with vowel digraph /ee/ in words that sounds as long e. Example:
teeth, speech, and free. Words with vowel digraph /ea/ in words that also sounds as
