Technology Integration
• Rational:
  – Although estuaries are not discussed as often as other
forms of water, they are still important. It is important
to understand how to protect our environment and
wild life. Through the use of technology, we will be
able to learn more about these estuaries and all that
    inhabit them.
  – The goal is to use technology to bring knowledge
about estuaries to both students and teachers.
  – With the use of technology, students will be able to
get first hand videos of estuaries, collect information
on estuaries, and learn more about where estuaries
    are located.
  – Click Here to Watch Video
Internet Content
• The internet will allow students to watch
videos, read information blogs, and discuss
  estuaries with others
• The internet gives students the opportunity to
talk with experts, access photographs, and
  search educational websites that provide
  information specific to estuaries
Videos from the Internet
Internet Blog
       http://nerrablog.blogspot.com/
This blog shows pictures from estuaries and
posts events to help save or work in estuaries.
There are updates on legislation about helping
saving these habitats. There is also the option
to post a question and get it answered by the
            professionals in the field.
Internet Podcasts
     http://gallery.usgs.gov/videos/599
(click link above to visit website)
This podcasts has researchers discuss the
climate changes in California and how these
changes threaten the estuaries. Students will
hear about the problems that estuaries face
             due to climate change.
Internet Resource #1
• United States Environmental Protection
  Agency (click here for website)
• This website provides information on what
estuaries are, why are they important,
problems estuaries face, and how people can
help. Also, there is a glossary of terms
  associated with estuaries.
Internet Resource #2
• National Oceanic and Atmosphere
  Administration (click link for website)
• The website provides videos, data, pictures,
and information about estuaries. There are
also ways to get involved to help protect the
estuaries. The information is presented in a
colorful and child oriented way so that
children can get the most out of the
  information.
Internet Resource #3
• World Biomes (click link for website)
• The website is full of information about
estuaries and is presented in a kid friendly
manner. The students can play games, watch
videos, and learn how to help protect the
  estuaries.

have links that the students can click on to further
    their learning.
Subject-Specific Resource
• Estuary Real Time Data (Click to Access)
  – This is real time data on estuaries being tracked
currently. The students can use the information to
graph the estuaries around the country or they
can graph the differences in estuaries based on
    the day and time.
  – The website gives the water quality and weather
for the estuaries in real time
Uses of the Internet
• Online Programs
  – NERRA (Click to Access)
     • National Estuarine Research Reserve Association
     • This is where students can come and see what different
projects are happening. These projects help preserve
the estuaries. Provides numerous contacts both local
and national for people to get involved with.
Uses of the Internet 2
• Talk to an Expert
  – Get to Know the Experts (Click to discover)

  1. From the videos, it allows students to get a better idea of the importance of estuaries. They will be able to visit educational websites to give them a better understanding of what an estuary is and why they are so important. Educational information about estuaries can be found at websites like estuaries.noaa.gov and www.epa.gov. 6. This Graphic Organizer was created using the program Inspiration. It has a list of terms that are often used in regards to estuaries. How is this diagram going to be used during a lesson? This graphic organizer will list terms that the class will become familiar with while learning about estuaries. The expectation is that the students will know these terms and be able to define them. How does this visual enhance student understanding of the topic? This organizer is a great list to have when learning a new topic. The students can use the organizer to help them study. I will give them photos to have them match the vocabulary words. This way it allows them to match a picture with the word to help them better understand.
  7. This is made using program Inspiration. The objective is to have the students fill in the blanks. 1) How would this diagram be used in an actual lesson? This graphic organizer will enable students practice using the terms that go along with estuaries. This worksheet will be a follow up of the previous inspiration organizer. The purpose is to assess the students knowledge of estuaries. The students can also use this as a study guide if they want. 2)How does this visual enhance student understanding of the topic? This organizer can be a great tool to have when learning a new subject. Students can pair up with other students to see what other words they could have used. The students have the opportunity to pick which words to use instead of being told. The students feel like they have more freedom this way. The boxes are numbered to it is easier for them to go back and refer to a specific box when discussing with a friend.
