  1. Under each area, there are multiple strands, which are groups of skills. There are goals under each strand. Goal 1 is easier than Goal 2 which is easier than Goal 3. Under each goal are objectives, which are more discrete skills. These objectives build in difficulty – for example Objective 1.3 is the easiest, Objective 1.2 is a little more advanced, and Objective 1.1 is more advanced.
  2. On your screen is an example of one goal under the third and final strand under Gross Motor, Strand C. Active Play. That strand has 3 goals. Goal 1 = Swings bat, club, or stick to strike stationary object, Goal 2 = Uses hands to hang on play equipment with bars and Goal 3 = Rides and steers bicycle. Under Goal 3, you’ll see there are 4 objectives. Objective 3.4 is the easier and as you move upwards towards the goal, the objectives get harder. This test organization facilitates test administration. If a child perform a more advanced objectives in a sequence, it’s generally not necessary to assess the earlier objectives. And you can easily see a child’s progress and next steps moving towards goals.
