- Scenario 2 is the opposite, National College - focus on one nation, little international student or faculty engagement. Regulation and accreditation are national or even more localized. Academic research has national party characteristics (celebrating or ignoring certain ethnic groups; certain sciences downplayed or emphasized; humanities reshaped accordingly).

- Obviously driven by nationalist, antiglobalization movements, which can be defined by various forms of right wing politics.
- We’ve seen small signs of this in controversies over language of instruction, with calls to either teach a global language – i.e., English – or to teach in a local tongue. We’ve also seen it in the Hungarian government’s successful expulsion of a university.
- Why I am speaking to you? Some of you know my work already, so I won’t recap by vita. Instead, let me get to the point. I recently published a book about the future of higher education.
