Questions that we should ask?
   What is my context?
   Why to I need to use technology?
   What is the appropriate technology?
   How can I improve educational transactions
    using technology?
   What preparations do I need to use technology
    effectively?
   Do I have the skills and knowledge to use
    technology, and from where I can update myself?
What Questions are normally asked?
 Do ICTs impact student learning outcomes?
 Is there impact beyond curriculum?
 Does it improve classroom practices and
 teacher skills?
How questions are addressed?
•   Opinion and Attitude Studies
•   Effectiveness and Impact Studies
•   Descriptive and Policy Studies
•   Quantitative Trends Analysis
•   Evaluative Studies
•   Multi-disciplinary approaches
What are the results?
• Mixed (from no significant to significant to
    negative impact)
•   Recent Meta-analysis of studies show “better
    results with technology”
•   Still it depends on the “context” – my
    students, my schools, and my ways to
    teaching
Changing Focus
•   Mediated environment, using programmed
    texts
•   Independent learning using specially
    prepared materials in print, audio, video,
    multimedia
•   More engaged and interactive learning due to
    affordances of technologies

ICT Integrated Education and Research

  • 4. Maybe… but,  Children require little or no inputs from teachers and can learn on their own by the process of exploration, discovery and peer coaching within a technology-enabled learning environment -- Sugata Mitra

  • 6. In reality…  Education is context-based;  One size fits all does not work;  Its about Design and not Brand;  You may like to ask some questions …
  • 7. Questions that we should ask?  What is my context?  Why to I need to use technology?  What is the appropriate technology?  How can I improve educational transactions using technology?  What preparations do I need to use technology effectively?  Do I have the skills and knowledge to use technology, and from where I can update myself?
  • 8. What Questions are normally asked?  Do ICTs impact student learning outcomes?  Is there impact beyond curriculum?  Does it improve classroom practices and teacher skills?
  • 9. How questions are addressed? • Opinion and Attitude Studies • Effectiveness and Impact Studies • Descriptive and Policy Studies • Quantitative Trends Analysis • Evaluative Studies • Multi-disciplinary approaches
  • 10. What are the results? • Mixed (from no significant to significant to negative impact) • Recent Meta-analysis of studies show “better results with technology” • Still it depends on the “context” – my students, my schools, and my ways to teaching
  • 11. Changing Focus • Mediated environment, using programmed texts • Independent learning using specially prepared materials in print, audio, video, multimedia • More engaged and interactive learning due to affordances of technologies Programme Resource- Self-Learning Learning based Learning
  • 12. In summary • Asking the right questions will help get right answer • As digital information literacy improves, questions will move from experiments to improving the contexts and environments • How to optimize student learning in networked environment is the key • A-Z Learning is all about LEARNING per se; therefore, put IT before IT.
