Wave of Violence 1970 -71
 January 16, 1970 – prison guard was thrown from the
third tier at Soledad in retaliation for the shooting deaths
of three inmates a few days earlier
 1970 – 1971 – three additional guards were stabbed to
death at Soledad by inmates
 Another officer stabbed while guarding witnesses to
Soledad officer’s murder
 August 21, 1971 three guards and three inmates,
including George Jackson, were killed at San Quentin
during aborted escape attempt.
