Production Process Evaluation
Research
• For my research I looked at many different designs for posters and logos
for different genres and films. I also created a survey to create a general
idea of the most favourable designs. This helped me apply my product to
my audience more accurately so it would apply to all necessary factors for
my product.
Planning
• In my planning I looked at the text fonts for magazines and experimented
with the positions of images and overall layout of the pages. Such as sizes
of images and which page they should be on. For instance I moved he
collection of information and images in to different positions and
separated text In to different groups. I had to look at a lot of fonts as well
as it seemed vey bland with just the same font throughout.
Time Management
• Planning: in my planning I didn’t need much time as once id got all images
and information I just spent a short amount of time moving them around
until I was happy with the combinations.
• Research: with my research I spent quite a bit of time longer as I was
looking at quite a few different magazines. This was because I wanted a
consensus idea as to what will look best.
• Production: in my production it took longer than the rest as I spent added
time making changes to my designs as I was not happy with most of them.
I had to re do a lot of stuff throughout the process.
Technical Qualities
My magazine was designed based on most normal film magazines like edge
magazine, for the back page I wanted to use advertisements as they are very
commonly used either in the middle of the magazine or at the very back page. I
chose to use dead pool 2 due to they're both large and simplistic advertising
campaign. This choice was to give a sense of realism to the product to fit in with
the timing on the date on the front. On the front page I decided to once again try
to replicate the style of edge magazine with a centralized character with details
dotted around the sides. I designed the images of tom Holland off of some other
film magazines where images of him are layered in groups of three.
Aesthetic Qualities
I believe that my product looks aesthetically pleasing as I've tried to blend the images
together by having them not contrast as bad to each other for instance originally I had
a very dark purple-ish colour pallet on the background image for the front cover with
the same bright images on top which caused them to look pretty terrible. Hence I
changed to a brighter more yellow wheat field which caused everything to meld. If I
were to improve anything it would be the overall text and images on the front page as
I would like to have made them fit better on the page and more well placed. A point
I've aimed to do is to fit conventions such as the locations of the mast head and sub
headers to be sure that they replicate actual magazine covers. Ive attempted to appeal
to my target audiance
Audience Appeal
I have attempted to make it appealing to my target audience by using bright
colours and retro style street art typography. For the back cover I created an
advertisement for the new dead pool movie which is already quite popular with
audiences just from trailers and advertisements alone. I wanted to try and also
being appealing to my audience by attempting not to limit my product to just the
review of films but looking at key parts of films and television like costume design
and inspiration which hopefully students and those with a deep interest in media
who want to read deeper in to these aspects. The target audience for my product
are in the age range of students as well which means if I can make my product
more applicable to being read by students because for instance there is
information that can be learned from.
Peer
Feedback
Feedback 1
• What did you like about the product?
• I like the range of features that you have used.
For example I like how you have many
different topics on your magazine cover
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
• I think you could improve your magazine cover
if you add more information onto it
Feedback 2
• What did you like about the product?
• I liked the front cover because it was very creative and colourful, it attracted my
eyes towards it and got me to look at it
• I also liked the title, I thought it was unique.
• The background was very good as well and will attract people who like the witcher.
• I also liked the back cover because I liked the character that was on there so I
enjoyed it more and I also liked the colour scheme
• What improvements could have been made to the product?
• One improvement that could’ve been made is how clean it looked and maybe
adding in few more bit to the front cover to make it something more than it is
– Another improvement is maybe keep the same colour scheme for both covers
Feedback 3
• What did you like about the product?
– I like the colours that you have used in your
magazine front cover as they go well together and
it looks good
• What improvements could have been made to
the product?
– Include more straplines and include a masthead
Peer Feedback Summary
• What do you agree with from your peer
feedback?
– I agree with the use of pop culture characters to
attract viewers to the product.
– Also I agree that I should have added more detail to
the front cover to improve the product.
• What do you disagree with from your peer
feedback?
– I don’t believe it would be a good idea to keep the
same colour scheme throughout as I believe it would
make the product look more bland.
Peer Feedback Summary
Looking back I believe I would have liked to have re designed the back cover
advertisement to have it fit in more smooth for instance having the title
altered to look smoother and more defined on the characters wrist so it
doesn’t stick out like a saw thumb as much. I would also maybe change the
background of the advertisement so it isn’t just plain white. I would also re
adjust the images of tom Holland as I realise that they are not perfectly in
line.
