altitude : 1000 meters
Once upon a time there was a small village of Haut Vallespir in the
Pyrenees, called St Laurent de Cerdans a catalan weaving factory...
3. Les Toiles du Soleil
« Les Toiles du
Soleil » is a fabric
that was created by
the villagers of St
Laurent de Cerdans :
a small village in
Pyrénées, on the
Spanish border a
long ago.
4. Resulting from a tradition wich began several centuries ago, the catalan
way of weaving expanded at the end of the XIXth century. At the same
time, St Laurent de Cerdans became famous and prosperous thanks to the
manufacture of rope-soled sandals.
5. Almost 20 years
ago, in 1993,
Françoise and Henri
Quinta have
acquired SANS et
GARCERIE
founded in 1897.
The expertise is
there from
generation to
generation. In 1939
the factory
branched out its
business with
weaving fabrics
deckchair, thus
opening a new
market share.
6. In 1955 it was the return of linen, tablecloths and napkins with
patterns and colors typical Catalan. In 1994 Henri and
Françoise Quinta decide to buy the factory and they saved the
last textile factory in the village and also revived the great
tradition of Catalan weaving.
7. All our products are genuine. Not only because they result from original
methods and a traditional know-how passed down from generation to
generation but also because Les Toiles du Soleil only use the natural
and fine materials of cotton and linen.
