Western Religion - Origin
 Judaism began about 3,700 years ago in Canaan which
now contains the State of Israel, Palestine and Jordan.
 Christianity began about 2,000 years ago in Canaan.
 Islam began about 1,400 years ago in Arabia.
 Bahä’i Faith began in 160 years ago in Persia (Iran).
Western
 Worship is congregational, simple in its rituals
 Centers around the church, synagogue, or mosque
 Mostly on a Sabbath day (Moslems 5 or 3 times a day)
Eastern
 Worship is individual, more ritualistic, and meditative
 Centers around the temple and home shrine
 All days of the week
Mode of Worship
1. Judaism: Beliefs
 One God and Creator Who is beyond the limitation of form and
cares for the world and its creatures, rewarding the good and
punishing the evil.
 Prophets of which Moses was God’s foremost, and the Ten
Commandments revealed to him by God as man’s highest law.
 Torah as God’s word and scripture, composed of the five Old
Testament books. They are God’s only immutable law.
 That God has established a unique spiritual covenant(agreement)
with the Hebrew people to uphold for mankind the highest
standards of virtues and piety.
Beliefs - Judaism:
*No priest should intervene in the relationship of man and God, nor should God be
represented in any form, nor should any being be worshipped other than the One God,
Yahweh.
*Man’s spiritualization through adherence to the law, justice, charity, and honesty.
*Universe is not eternal. It was created by God and will be destroyed by Him.
*After death the soul goes to Heaven or to Hell based on one’s actions and one day the
Messiah will appear on earth and there will be a Day of Judgment, and the dead shall
physically arise to Life Everlasting.
*To make the home a House of God through devotion and rituals, prayers, sacred festivals,
and observation of the Holy Days.
2. Christianity: Beliefs
 God, the Creator of the universe, reigning forever distinct over man, his beloved creation.
exists as three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and these three are one infinite,
eternal, holy God (Holy Trinity).
 Messiah: that God sent his Son Jesus Christ to show people the way God wants them to
live. And to offer his life as the way to forgiveness and salvation.
 Jesus Christ was born of Mary, a virgin. He was crucified on the cross then resurrected
from the dead and now sits at the right hand of the Father as the final judge of the dead
and that He will return again as prophesied.
 Jesus’ resurrection from the dead is proof of God’s power over sin, death, and proof that
he can save in this way.
 That Salvation can be achieved through Jesus Christ, who died and rose to reveal God’s
love and plan for humanity.
1. Thou shall not take any God except
one God.
2. Thou shall make no image of God.
3. Thou shall not use God’s name in
vain.
4. Thou shall honour thy mother and
father.
5. Thou shall not steal.
6. Thou shall not lie or give false
testimony.
7. Thou shall not kill.
8. Thou shall not commit adultery.
9. Thou shall not covet thy neighbours
wife or possessions.
10. Thou shall keep the Sabbath holy.

Islam
*Man is the noblest creation of God, ranking above the angels.
*Allah is the Supreme Creator and Sustainer, all knowing and transcendent and yet
the arbiter of good and evil, the final judge of humans.
*The pure transcendence of God, great beyond imagination, no form or idol can be
worshipped in His Name.
*The Qur’an is the Word of God and the sacred scripture mediated through the
Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Mohammed.
*The direct communion of each man with God, all are equal in the eyes of God and
therefore priests or other mediators are not needed.
Path of Attainment – Islam

is God’s Prophet or Messenger.
* Ritual Prayer(Namaz) : Praying five times (Sunnis) or three times
(Shiites) daily facing Mecca the holy city of Saudi Arabia. All male
Muslims are also enjoined to meet for community prayer each Friday at
noon.
*Alms Giving (Zakat): The Koran requires that 2.5% of one's income be
given to the poor, mosque, and to the spread of Islam.
* Fasting (Roza): Fast throughout Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim
calendar. The faithful fasts (abstaining from food and drink) from sunrise to
sunset.
* Pilgrimage (Haj): At least once in a lifetime every believer must go to

TEN COMMANDMENTS OF ZOROASTRISM
Confucianism
• To create true nobility through proper education and the inculcation of all the
virtues.
• To return to the way of one’s ancestors and to discover the ancient way of virtue.
• Spiritual nobility and moral achievement are attainable by all men and seen in a
wise person.
• Wise man’s greatest virtues are benevolent love, duty, wisdom, truth, and
propriety.
• Wise man always knows what is right and follows his knowledge.
• Confucius accepted the Tao (mysticism) but emphasized on the return to an
idealized age and the cultivation of the wise man and on the pragmatic rather
than the mystical.
• Salvation is seen as realizing and living one’s natural goodness, which is endowed
by heaven through education.
Taoism
He, who has realized the Tao, has arrived at pure
consciousness and sees the inner truth of everything.
• Only one who is free of desire can apprehend the Tao,
thereafter leading a life of “actionless activity.”
• Realizing the mystical intuition of the Tao, which is the way,
the undivided unity, and the ultimate Reality.
• All things depend upon the Tao, and all things return to it.
Yet it lies hidden, transmitting its power and perfection to
all things.
• There is no personal God in Taoism, and thus no union with
Him.
• The worship is a part of the path.
Shintoism
• Shinto is the indigenous religious tradition of Japan. Its roots lie deep in the
prehistoric religious practices of the Japanese people. However, some believe
that Shinto began around 2,500 - 3,000 years ago in Japan.
• There are two main divisions. One encompasses all thirteen ancient sects.
• The second is known as State Shinto. The State Shinto finds its highest
expression in the worship of the Emperor and loyalty to the State and family.
• Shinto has no historical founder; however each of the 13 ancient sects believes
it has its own founder.
• Shinto does not have any canon of sacred scriptures, although important
elements of its mythology and cosmology are found in Kojiki (Records of the
Ancient) and Nilongi or Nikonshoki (ancient Japanese chronicles). The ritual
hymns and prayers called Norito were compiled into written collections
(Yengishki) at an early date.
• All Japanese participate in Shinto rites and many of them are also Buddhists.
Hence, adherents are not a useful category for this religion. It is estimated that
30 million Japanese perform Shinto rites.

Dictums of Dada Bhagwan on Religions
All religions are true but the religion which boosts in knowing
‘who am I’ and makes us inquire ‘who does all this' is on the way to
ultimate religious living; and realising ‘that’ is a pinnacle of
religion. 29
Religion that does not provide inner peace is no religion at all. 257
Where there is no peace, there is no religion as such. 258
Dharma means giving happiness to the other living being in all
respects and Adharma (irreligion) is giving pain to the other in all
ways. 601

Christianity: Beliefs  God, the Creator of the universe, reigning forever distinct over man, his beloved creation. exists as three persons; Father, Son, and Holy Spirit and these three are one infinite, eternal, holy God (Holy Trinity).  Messiah: that God sent his Son Jesus Christ to show people the way God wants them to live. And to offer his life as the way to forgiveness and salvation.  Jesus Christ was born of Mary, a virgin. • 33. Shintoism • Shinto is the indigenous religious tradition of Japan. Its roots lie deep in the prehistoric religious practices of the Japanese people. However, some believe that Shinto began around 2,500 - 3,000 years ago in Japan. • There are two main divisions. One encompasses all thirteen ancient sects. • The second is known as State Shinto. The State Shinto finds its highest expression in the worship of the Emperor and loyalty to the State and family. • Shinto has no historical founder; however each of the 13 ancient sects believes it has its own founder. • Shinto does not have any canon of sacred scriptures, although important elements of its mythology and cosmology are found in Kojiki (Records of the Ancient) and Nilongi or Nikonshoki (ancient Japanese chronicles). The ritual hymns and prayers called Norito were compiled into written collections (Yengishki) at an early date. • All Japanese participate in Shinto rites and many of them are also Buddhists. Hence, adherents are not a useful category for this religion. It is estimated that 30 million Japanese perform Shinto rites.
