This is a walk-through of the SBIR research project that Dig-It! Games is conducting in order to explain the background before conducting initial interviews with teachers.
Dig-It! Games SBIR Project Overview Teacher Interviewees
1. Who We Are…
Dig-It! Games is an award-
winning mission-based
educational game studio
that was started in 2005 by
Suzi Wilczynski, an
accomplished archaeologist
and teacher.
Dig-It! Games has produced a host of social studies games
that address cultural preservation through archaeology,
STEM-based games that foster critical thinking and literacy
based games that make learning fun!
Interviews will be conducted by:
• Chris Magnuson, Education
Content and Design Strategist
• Elisa Bartolomeo-Damon

2. • NSF – National Science Foundation
• SBIR – Small Business Innovation Research
Dig-It! Games was awarded a Small Business Innovation Research grant (SBIR) by the
National Science Foundation (NSF) to conduct research on creating a streamlined data
reporting language and platform for the digital game-based learning industry.
“The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program is a highly competitive program that
encourages domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development
(R/R&D) that has the potential for commercialization.” www.sbir.gov
3. What’s the problem?
Currently, data is produced on proprietary
platforms that require teachers to manage
multiple accounts and do not seamlessly
facilitate comparisons of data of similar
learning tasks.
Teachers are widely using video
games and digital learning platforms
to enhance, support and differentiate
their lessons. Each game and
platform produces critical data to
mark and track student progress.
4. Our solution
Dig-It! Games is researching how to
create a reporting platform that is
universal and open source for all
games.
5. Proposed Benefits
Teachers, administrators, parents
and students will be able to
compare their learning outcomes in
different games in a single,
comparable data dashboard.
Video game companies can focus on
creating high quality educational
experiences instead of creating
their own data reporting system.
6. We Need Your Help!
We are seeking your input in how to make this
reporting system best fit your needs.
We will be
conducting an
initial and follow-
up interviews
(not lasting more than 1 hour each).

interview.
