Dear Prospective Parents and Carers,
Thank you for your interest in Kew High School.
Our school is a learning community grounded in a culture of excellence. We involve staff, families and the
wider community in the journey that enables each of our students to reach their own potential. Respect and
trust are fundamental to learning, personal growth and quality relationships. By putting these qualities into
practice, students and staff ensure that together we achieve and celebrate ongoing success.
The values of Kew High School align to the school motto; Aspire, Strive, Achieve and are encapsulated in the
word ASPIRE. They are Accountability, Social Equity, Participation, Integrity, Respect and Excellence. These
values are the lived experience of students at Kew High School and they underpin the work in teaching and
learning across the school. They are reflected in the diverse curriculum that caters for all students across a
wide range of cultural and educational backgrounds. They form the basis of the expectations for all learners
in the community and frame the broad range of co-curricular programs across the school.
Students at Kew High School are challenged to think critically and creatively. They do so in a huge variety of
knowledge areas; they practice integrating these thinking skills and then learn to apply them in a range of
contexts. With extensive and ongoing professional learning by teachers with a culture of continual
improvement in pedagogy, students are supported to become self-directed, lifelong learners.
Information regarding the process of enrolment may be found on the school website at www.kew.vic.edu.au.

a wonderful skill that can also provide serious career opportunities.
Students that show commitment and progress in their work are encouraged to continue their
instrumental studies up to VCE level where both Solo and Group performance are offered.

instruments* from the school for an additional charge of $150 for instrument hire per year. Occasionally,
students are also required to purchase specific texts or equipment.

particular instrument.

Would you like to be involved?
At Kew High School, we strongly encourage families to participate in the school community.
For our students to flourish, they rely on a positive partnership between their homes and school. We
value the contribution that our parents and guardians make to the school and invite you to become
involved in these opportunities.
Q Network
This important group promotes the engagement of parents and guardians within the school community
through social and community events e.g. Trivia Night, Year 7 ‘Meet the Teachers’ Night, Year 12
‘Valedictory Dinner’, Sausage Sizzles, office assistance and more.
Chaplaincy
Kew High School is fortunate to have the services of a full time Chaplain on staff. The Chaplain is part of
the school wellbeing team and is involved in peer support, student connect groups and individual
student and family welfare. There are many ways you can support this area e.g. attendance at planning
meetings and the annual dinner, participation in fund raising events such as sausage sizzles and
providing input through email updates.
Second Hand Book and Uniform Shop
The school has an active group of parent volunteers who run this service. The shop is open every
Tuesday from 12.15 pm - 1.15 pm, occasional Monday evenings and for ‘end of year’ sales. There are
many ways to assist in the shop as part of a team on a roster basis and we appreciate help with book
and uniform recycling and associated administrative tasks.

Year 7 Transition Enrolment Process -
2020
Kew High School has a defined/designated neighbourhood area/zone.
All Year 7 enrolments take place through the Primary Schools, who are responsible for monitoring the
placement of each student in a secondary school.
Forms are collected by the Primary schools and then passed onto Secondary schools for processing.
In 2020, the Primary Schools will send the forms electronically to Year 6 families. Families who
require a hard copy of the form are advised to contact the Primary School who will arrange for a hard
copy to be issued. Application forms are to be submitted to the primary school (e.g. by email, post or
by other means) by the revised due date of Friday 29 May 2020.
If you reside outside of the Kew High Zone, you must nominate Kew High School as FIRST CHOICE
on this form before entry to the school can be considered.
Application forms will be processed by the end of July. In accordance with DET guidelines, primary
schools will be notified of the results and will then advise parents on the adjusted date of Wednesday
19 August 2020.
In accordance with Department guidelines, applications for Year 7 entry to Kew High School are
processed in the following priority order:
1. Students who already have a brother or sister at the same permanent address currently
enrolled in the school and who will continue to be enrolled at the school.
2. Students who seek enrolment on specific curriculum grounds.
3. Any remaining places will be allocated based on proximity of residence to the school.
Applications on Specific curriculum grounds:
Families seeking admission for students on curriculum grounds will need to submit this in writing.
Curriculum grounds means that the application must demonstrate what specific program or approach
at Kew High School is not available at a neighbouring school and why this is vital for the educational
needs of the student.
Curriculum claims must be submitted to the school at the same time as the official enrolment form.
Late curriculum claims will not be considered. Curriculum claims must accompany an enrolment form
with Kew High School listed as FIRST CHOICE of secondary school.
All Year 7 enrolments take place through the Primary Schools, who are responsible for monitoring the
placement of each student in a secondary school.
Application for Enrolment forms are distributed by Primary schools in April. These forms are

School nominated as the first choice of school
