Consistencies: A way to reduce health affections is being looked at.They are giving
the reason of why they did the selection about obesity and overweight “following
the respective courses of action, such as: reducing morbidity and mortality
caused by non-contagious chronic diseases such as hypertension and
diabetes, and to instrument actions for the prevention and control of
overweight, obesity and diabetes”
Inconsistencies: The actual causes of obesity and overweight aren't mentioned.
They go directly to the beverages and avoid any other reason. The phrase “The
purpose of this initiative is to comply with the strategies established by the
“National Development Plan 2013-2018” makes it feel like they are actually
doing these changes not because of the impact it could have but because of
the need they have in saying they did something.
3 Which biases or errors did you find in the arguments (bad arguments, fallacies,
omissions, false inferences and deceptive statistics)?
“The high consumption of sugar-added beverages contributes notoriously
to excess energy intake and is an important factor in the development of
overweight and obesity in Mexico”When they say that sugar-added beverages
contribute NOTORIOUSLY to overweight and obesity, they are omitting numbers. By

2. how much does these beverages really contribute? Are they the most important
factor?
“representing a call to define public policies that favor the reduction of
sugar-added beverage consumption” They are saying that the sample
analize to say that these beverages contribute to obesity is representative.
“it is essential to reinforce effective policies and programs for obesity
prevention” Assuming that these prevention actions would be effective.
If the prevention measure is to increase the cost based on volume of the
sugar added liquids, it could be a mistake due to the concentration could be
higher maintaining the same volume.
4 Can conclusions be drawn from the arguments?
No. More data regarding the Mexican population causes of obesity and overweight
is needed, as well as a correlation analysis between the conditions and disease. All
this in order to detect that the policies are actually tackling the main reasons for the
problem.
