 It is the period during which
stone was widely used. (as tools,
etc.)
 The level of ‘human development’.
 Stone Age is divided into 3
periods: Paleolithic Period,
Mesolithic Period, and Neolithic
Period.
Old Stone Age
 Paleolithic was coined by archaeologist John Lubbock
in 1865. It derives from Greek: palaios means "old”
and lithos means "stone“. Known also as Old Stone
Age.
 The earliest period of human development.
 It is a prehistoric period when the first humans
developed the most primitive stone tools.
HOMO SAPIENS
•Humans grouped together in small societies.
•The most outstanding feature of the Paleolithic
period was the evolution of the human species from
an apelike creature to true Homo sapiens.

The Paleolithic period started 2.6
million years ago and ended around
10,000 B.C.
Lower Paleolithic (two million – 100,000 B.C.)
Middle Paleolithic (100,000 – 30,000 B.C.)
Upper Paleolithic (30,000 – 10,000 B. C.)
The New Stone Age
Neolithic period
 The final stage of cultural evolution.
 From hunting animals for food
(Paleolithic period) to domestication of
animals and settled agriculture.
 Humans started to live in villages.
 Neolithic people learned to plant and
farming as well for the regular supply
of food for themselves.
Pottery
 People during this period began experimenting
with crafts like pottery, weaving, and other forms of
artistic expression.
Copper Age, Bronze Age and Iron Age
Metal Age
 Many stone tools have been replaced by
bronze and iron during this time.
 People in Asia Minor found copper to
make tools and weapons.
 About 2000 BCE, man found out that
when copper and tin are mixed, it
produces bronze. With bronze, more
tools and weapons are produced–
swords, axes, knives, and others.
 Iron was introduced at about 1000 BCE.
The new metal was more durable that’s
why more weapons were made of iron.
