Usually adverbs modify verbs. When an adverb modifies a verb, it can be
placed sentence in the following manners:
1.

If the sentence has no object, the adverb follows the verb. For
example,
- He walked slowly.

2. If there is an object and the sentence is short, the adverb follows
the object. For example,
- He learned the words easily.
back

back to main menu

next
3. If the object is long or already modified the adverb is placed
immediately before the verb it modifies. For example,
- He carefully put the pen and the paper into the drawer.

An adverb can, however, be put before the verb it
modifies although the sentence is short. This is
often done when the speaker wants to emphasize
that adverb. For example,
-He really enjoyed the show.
- He carefully studied the words.

My favorite form of entertainment is the cinema. I love everything about it. The excitement starts when I look in the
newspapers to see what films are showing this week. Then when I have chosen the film I want to see, I go down to the box
office to buy a ticket. I usually get a centre aisle seat at the front so that I can get a good
view of the screen
When choosing a film I always like to see who directed it and who is starring in it. My favorite director is Steven Spielberg
and my favorite actor is Anthony Hopkins. Nicole Kidman is probably one of the world’s best actresses but my favorite is
Jodie Foster.
I like most kinds of films: westerns, war films, comedies, thrillers, horror films anything really except science fiction films.
Films that are set in the future really do not attract me. In addition, I am not very keen on films that have subtitles. It is not
because I do not like foreign films. It is because I find it really difficult to read the subtitles, listen to the dialogue and watch
the action all at the same time!

7. Why does the writer like the cinema so much?
1
because she likes all kinds of films
2
because she likes reading the newspaper
3
because she likes everything about it

office to buy a ticket.

9. Why does she sit at the front of the cinema?

  • 94. My favorite form of entertainment is the cinema. I love everything about it. The excitement starts when I look in the newspapers to see what films are showing this week. Then when I have chosen the film I want to see, I go down to the box office to buy a ticket. I usually get a centre aisle seat at the front so that I can get a good view of the screen When choosing a film I always like to see who directed it and who is starring in it. My favorite director is Steven Spielberg and my favorite actor is Anthony Hopkins. Nicole Kidman is probably one of the world’s best actresses but my favorite is Jodie Foster. I like most kinds of films: westerns, war films, comedies, thrillers, horror films anything really except science fiction films. Films that are set in the future really do not attract me. In addition, I am not very keen on films that have subtitles. It is not because I do not like foreign films. It is because I find it really difficult to read the subtitles, listen to the dialogue and watch the action all at the same time! 7. Why does the writer like the cinema so much? 1 because she likes all kinds of films 2 because she likes reading the newspaper 3 because she likes everything about it back back to main menu next
