1. Research for Ancillary Text: Film Poster
- For my first ancillary text, I will be creating a film posterfor my
trailer and so I have done some research into different
conventions of the posters forgangster films
CommonThemes amongstposters for Gangster films:
- Most popular colours are black, white and red (if any colour is
used, it is usually warm)
- Background is a solid colour and the titles and images are
superimposedonto this background
- Font of titles is usually bold and blocky in orderto make a
statement and create a brand- it can make the title more
memorable if the font stands out
- Images used are usually of the main characters or are of an
abstract image that relates in some way to the themes of the
film (i.e. The hand controlling the puppetstrings on The
Godfatherposterreflectthe theme of the Godfatherbeing in
control)
- Billing Blocks and cast names are usually placed below the
main image, at the bottom of the poster
